Soo.. following on from My previous status-update, I was meant to post this on Monday (..oops!) but here is My new addition to the "family":

Say hello to the UDOO BOLT V8! ? And there's more. I'm gonna be trying out Linux for the first time! So yes I am still a Linux Noob at the moment! xD

I'm pretty excited to try out Linux and will definitely need some help along the way lol. I'm currently installing Ubuntu for anyone who's curious. I was thinking about Manjaro but I've been told the distro that You install doesn't matter as such. I dunno if that's true but anyways, I'm gonna try experimenting with Ubuntu as mentioned!

Distro doesn't matter that much, and Ubuntu is decent for learning Linux just due to the amount of random tutorials that people make for it. That's a pretty neat SBC.

@2FA Ah ok sweet :D and Thank you! I feel like such a Linux Noob currently. I'm just in the process of making a bootable USB-Drive haha

I'm a fellow Linux noobie as well and, from my limited experience, it does matter what distro you choose.

Or rather, what the distro is based on.

As far as I know, Ubuntu is the most supported and noob friendly and Manjaro is based on Arch so, if you need to mess with something then, you'll more then likely have to go into the console/terminal which can be a pain of you don't have experience with all that.

    are you challenging me?

    in ONE try

@Cyberspirit well... i have something with both

ubuntu drops active 32 bit support

and i've had problems with manjaro recently, hence I installed arch yesterday

Yeah, someone told Me this last week but I wasn't sure whether they were correct or not. I dunno if this matters to Me personally.

  9. LukeSavenije

    LukeSavenije

well... manjaro is as close to arch as ubuntu to debian

it's based off, but completely different in many things

@LukeSavenije I'm calling you out, LFS in one try.

@2FA ehm... no thanks... i'm fine with arch for now

i'd challenge sauron (but i won't tag him this time)

It does indeed @TopHatProductions115 amongst many other M.2/USB slots ;)

God damn that is definitely out there, in the best of ways.  Looks slick as hell, I've been meaning to try out Linux myself as Windows has been pissing me off as of late.  Let me know how it goes with the learning curve!

  15. Xiauj

    Xiauj

@Java Yeah sure man, no worries :) I'm gonna install it in a little while and try to install it onto My M.2-SSD etc. lol

I'm hoping that the 1TB M.2 SSD and 32GB (2x16GB) SO-DIMM Kit of RAM I purchased is fully compatible with the UDOO-Bolt V8 as I've heard that certain brands/types are having some issues. Sooo.. yeah. I really hope everything goes smoothly.

Ok, I'm already confused with Linux xD And I haven't reached the desktop yet lmao. This is so different compared to a normal Windows 10 Installation in My opinion.

Thiiiis is gonna take some time.

  18. LukeSavenije

    LukeSavenije

    which distro? and what desktop?

  19. Xiauj

    Xiauj

Ubuntu 18.04 is the Distro I'm trying to install. I think that's the right version I downloaded, not sure.

It's saying it can't find a root file system; aka some partitioning needs to be done I think. I have NO idea when it comes to partitioning btw xD I just hope that the full 1TB is available lol

  20. LukeSavenije

    LukeSavenije

    nope... that's the lts

    I'd get 19.04

    even if I'd choose arch?

  21. Xiauj

    Xiauj

LTS? In that case, I dunno. I can update to 19.04 from 18.04 can I not? o.O I dunno.

This would so much easier for Me to explain on microphone xD haha

  22. LukeSavenije

    LukeSavenije

yeah... it doesn't work that way

lts is different from the normal releases

but i (and a couple other actual linux nerds) can help you on discord if you want
