Heh... this is gonna be fun, sort of  Gonna need some advice. I gotta try and make a good but very cheap PC for a friend whilst on a bit of a (..very) tight budget of around £300 xD.

Sounds like you gotta go Scrpyard wars mode... Surely cannot buy new parts with RAM and GPU prices all over the place.

  2. Xander Cousins

    Xander Cousins

hmmm, for 300? I had troubles doing so

  3. Xiauj

    Xiauj

@Eibe Yeah true :/ Prices are pretty high atm.

Will I need a GPU though or will a CPU with integrated graphics be enough, perhaps? Because my friend won't be using it for Gaming/Editing, He will be using it for just some web-browsing and basic stuff a lot of the time.

  4. Xiauj

@Alex Colson Can probably go up to around £350 perhaps.

The OS (Windows 10) is what's becoming a tiny issue atm because that alone is roughly £90 :/.

  5. Xander Cousins

    Xander Cousins

can get windows 10 for free but features will be limited without a license key. So no personal background and some other shiz

  6. Nocte

You should probably wait for Ryzen 3 2200G which has integrated Vega graphics... It's coming out soon.

  7. Xiauj

    Xiauj

@Alex Colson Yeah I know but I'd rather not do that for this build :). If it was my own build then I probably would have done that but I wanna get everything installed and sent to him in one go.

@Eibe Any idea how soon? Any specific month/date yet? And also any idea how much it will cost?

  10. Xander Cousins

    Xander Cousins

@Xiauj you could install Iinux first and then when it comes to being able to get windows later

  11. Nocte

    Nocte

AMD said 12 February... So in realistic terms, end of February you should be able to purchase it.

  12. Xiauj

    Xiauj

@Alex Colson Yeah true, there is that too.

Only one slight problem with that though, unfortunately: my friend has no idea about PCs which I should have mentioned at first, oops. That's why I wanna get it all installed in one go as mentioned

12th Feb, $99/169 so probably around £99 on this side of the pond :P

Anyway, on Gumtree (at least around Edinburgh), there are 2 1050s being sold for £60 and £65 so although prices are skyhigh right now, maybe look around at what's for sale in your area and maybe you'll still be able to find GPUs at normal prices...

  14. Xiauj

    Xiauj

    @Eibe Oh cool, thanks.

I haven't looked too much into the upcoming CPUs but yeah thanks for that ^_^

@Xiauj one suggestion would be to clone your OS drive onto the hard drive you would put into that computer, Maybe that would be a way to get around the hurdle for windows 10 OS

@Mr.Meerkat I've already tried Gumtree and eBay, no luck in my area unfortunately :| Would integrated-graphics suffice do you think? Kinda thinking about that atm but on what CPU is the question xD

:o Wow that's not bad, wish I had awesome deals like that in my area lol

Also thanks for the link about Ryzen, I'll have a look at it later on buddy :)

Depends on the use case. If its lighter gaming or your friend doesn't mind lower settings then sure, a Ryzen APU would probably do fine.

Anyway, I'm tempted to sell my Fury and just getting one of those 1050 as I don't really game anymore plus a fury is worth £300+ right now (on ebay) although I bought it for less than £180 :P

Buy a nice prebuild, maybe with a 3rd gen Intel processor, get a really cheap GPU, Boom.

  19. Xiauj

    Xiauj

@Mr.Meerkat Use-case for him will be no Gaming/Editing which I also am surprised at. It's just for some web-browsing on YouTube/Social-Media etc.. and other basic stuff a lot of the time. One good example of 'basic stuff' he said is word-document-editing/spreadsheet-editing as well as browser-games, apparently xD.

In addition to the web-browsing which I mentioned, he tends to have quite a few, aka a lot xD .. ... . .. of tabs open at a time so there is that.

@YedZed Nah that's one option I certainly don't want to do for a friend anyways tbh :P Sorry.

I mean, Pre-built-PCs aren't that bad I know I know.., but, I just feel like a fresh PC & fresh installation would be better.

  20. Mr.Meerkat

    Mr.Meerkat

Oh, in that case, an APU would be more than ideal. Pair it with 16GB (not possible is it?) of RAM and an SSD (again, unless your friend only needs <256GB, not happening), you'd be set to go ;).

  21. YedZed

    YedZed

Well you could always do a fresh install, but I get the fresh PC paradigm.

Got some used/unwanted parts on hand? Might help. Also, may have to get the Windows license from a 3rd party source to stay in that budget...
