  1. The tldr is the title. After testing all of my components individually and finding out that my stuff works, i have been unable to figure out why my display wont turn on when plugged into my motherboards top pcie slot. Full story : First off, my specs B85M-G R2.0/ B85M-E i7-4790 (non-k) Corsair crystal 460x 32 (4x8)gbs of ddr3 hyperx fury ram corsair RM1000x 250gb Samsung 850 EVO 3x 1tb Seagate HDD thermaltake water 3.0 120mm Aorus 1080ti extreme edition and an msi gpu bolster to hold it up. 4 hue+ enabled rgb nzxt fans 2 hue+ rgb strips Windows 10 home So, about a week and a half ago i noticed my mouse running of screen and open programs not being visible onscreen. While troubleshoiting, i found out that windows was detecting a weird 2cond miniature ghost monitor that i couldnt get rid of (settings showed it as a small 640x360p monitor by my actual monitor and it defulted it as monitor 1.) It also took a long time for my pc to output display, and it didnt give me a post display so that i could go into my bios (when I turned on my pc, my monitor wouldnt do anything. It would sit blank for a long time before suddenly opening to the windows password screen) tried uninstalling my nvida driver and installing a new one. Turning off my cpus onboard graphics,, clearing my cmos, using a diffterent cable, using a different monitor, plugging in 2 monitors, reseating my ram, making my motherboard see pci-e as my main display source, and flashing over the newest bios. At somepoint while troubleshooting, my gpu stop giving display. Whenever id turn on my pc, the screen would just remain black as though nothing was outputting to it. I then took my gpu to a friends house and he tested it with his pc. It worked. I then used an r9 380 in my system that my friend lent me. It worked fine. In a sort of panic move, (i need my system for a partybon saterday) I then baught a new motherboard (the B85M-E. My assumption was that the problem was gpu sag since the smaller lighter gpu worked perfectly and since i got a display one time when putting in the 1080ti and pushing it upwards towards the top of the case. It was the same buggy extra monitor display though. I also didnt rule out power delivery problems but i didnt have a means to test it and my psu really didnt seem like a likely cause.) i removed all my my drives exept the ssd with my operating system and defaulted all my biossettings. I also "reset my pc" using the windows troubleshooter. Got it activated on the new motherboard and plugged in my gpu. Got a display, but i had the ghost monitor. (It is also notable that throughout this prossess, while inside of my system, my gpus preformance isn't very good. It gave me framerates in the 20s when benchmarking unigine superposition with 1080p medium settings. When my friend tested the card using unigine heaven on his system, his benchmarks where more normal.) It is also notable that throught this prossess, at no time did i have any problems usibg my cpus onboard graphics. I was always able to get display through my motherboards hdmi) I updated my drivers, and defaulted my motherboard settings again. After a few updates and reinstalling some programs, it happened again. No display. (At this point im willin to try anything) I then formated the ssd, and booted/reinstalled a completely fresh verson of windows 10 onto it. No display I changed the cables routing to my gpu and even put them into different ports on my psu No display I decided to try my second pcie lane on the new motherboard Display... Now that last bit is a relatively new development that i havent been able able to troubleshoot yet, (discovered it at like 3am) but as it currently stands, when i plug my aorus gpu into my second (black) pcie lane, i not only get display, but its free of all of the aforementioned bugs. (I havent been able to test fps yet.) For clearity, i want to point out that my system seemd to be ONLY giving me problems if i plug SPECIFICALLY my aorus 1080ti into the top pcie slot of either of my older or newer motherboard. (As far as i can tell. Again, ill be troubleshooting all this more later today). Now, with all that said, i am ok with the temporary fix i have atm (gpu in the second pcie lane). But for a TON of reasons, using my system like that is very much so not ideal. If anyone has any ideas of things i could try to get my top slot to work, im kind of at my wits end here. (As a rule for these suggestions, please know that i have no more money to throw at this problem)
  2. So I have a build scenario that includes an Aorus GTX 1080 ti extreme edition that is having a hard time overclocking. Even the Aorus software's "oc" and "gaming" modes don't work. I have isolated the problem to heat. I wish to watercool my GPU, but I don't have the space, money, or balls to do a fully custom water cooling loop. That all being said, The Kraken G12 + an aio cooler seems like my best solution. are there any other solutions to this problem that might work better? if so what are they and why are they better. If not, is there anything I need to worry about this solution (VRAM cooling for example?)
  3. I'm actually highly interested in having this type of job... that being said, I'm in Cleveland. T-T
  4. thank you very much. to be honest, I wasn't sure if I could replace the fan/cooling set-up but if I can, I'll do that.
  5. "I have a 980ti g1. so yesterday while gaming, i noticed my computer was suddenly running louder than normal. after checking my thermals and running tests with afterburner and OC Guru 2, u found out that when my fans run, they spin as fast as they can, no matter what temperature it's at and no matter what speed% I manually set it to. does anyone know how I might fix this." i posted this a while ago. eventually the problem seemed to fix itself. weeks later, however, I started hearing clicking when ever my fans where under load. thinking it was a dust or wire problem, I took the pc apart, cleaned everything and did some cable management. while putting everything back to gather, i noticed that the third fan was loose. after carefully removing it from the gpu, i found that the peice that connected it to the gpu was broken and as such, it would wobble whenever it spun too fast due to instability. I couldn't find any guidance online about how to get the fan fixed or if I could buy a new one somewhere and fix it myself. afraid that if I left it loose, it might fly out and destroy something inside the case or worse, i so I left the fan out of the gpu and finished my build. now, not only do my last two fans only run at 0% or 100%, once a load forces them to start spinning, i cannot get them to stop unless I turn the system off. even with a custom curve, or using afterburner to set the % to 0, they just spin as loudly as possible until I shut down my pc. I don't have any clue what to do. I'm afraid that this fan problem will quickly end my gpus life. I'm a college student, I was lucky to be able to get it and if it dies, i probably won't be able to replace it. it might be possible to get a cheaper gpu if I sell this one and but, it would be a really dick move to sell someone a dying gpu. can I fix this? any suggestions?
  6. I have done both. I've been testing it all day with both of the before mentioned programs. no matter what conditions I put the system under, either the fans run at 100% or 0%. it's also notable that 1 fan in particular seems to spin at a different speed than the other two. could it be a bios thing maybe?
  7. 8. no, it's not. I'm running the game at pure 1080p. also no vsinc
  9. the Temps I get are around 40-60c, but I am always getting 90-99% of my gpu usage. it is notable that when I say max settings I mean aa maxed, grass on ultra, and the advanced graphics settings all on at their most.( the only setting that isnt pushed to their limit is the resolution. I'm using 1080 with no additional scaling.)
  10. l so recently, I've been running a lot of gta v benchmarks and doing a lot of research and so far, I've only become more confused. There are posts saying that a 980ti should get around 70fps at 1440p on very high settings. Mine only gets high 30-low 50Ish fps on max settings. (I have an i7-4790 and over 16gigs of ram.. I'm sure there's no battleneck) Some people are getting over 100fps than that on weaker cards somehow. what I've found out is that it is generally agreed that some settings like msaa and ultra grass textures don't change much visually but kill fps. I'm assuming that the benchmarks showing higher fps, even with lower end cards, are lowering these settings. so what I've decided to try is to spend time running the gta v benchmark testing all the settings that are most taxing and trying to set them up to where they are at the highest values that allow a 980ti to achive fps that never dips below 50 at 1080p. when I find them out, I'll post them. my question is, has anyone done this before? if not, does anyone know where should I start/have any suggestions?
  11. What's the best 1080p budget gaming monitor? by gaming, i mean 120htz min and 24-28 inches with the most bang for your buck in specs like imput lag, color, response time, etc. and by budget I mean $100-$300. however, I'm not sure about the normal going prices for 1080p displays, so I'm not 100% sure if the ones under $300 are worth it. if that's the case and they aren't, the budget can be raised to $500. thank you for your time! ?
  12. it is notable that the H97 board mentioned above is not of my preferred form factor. im looking to stay ATX but beggars cannot be choosers i guess. im not sure if moving from ATX to mini or micro would effect my build. i dont think so though. that being said, would this board work: http://www.ascendtech.us/ecs-h87h3-m-ddr3-lga1150-h87-motherboard_i_mbecsh87h3mv10n.aspx?agent=froogle if not, why? what makes this board so cheap if it does work?
  13. This poster is right, Im more of a graphix wh*** than a pc enthusiast and as such, im looking for a solution to bottlenecking only. it will not break my heart if my parts are low end, as long as they do not hinder my GPU and allow me to run 1080p max settings (including anti aliasing) at 60+fps with the occasional stream on steam. I do not plan on Overclocking (for mostly fear reasons) or SLI (for mostly money reasons). the only thing i wish to do with my machine is game. (i may upgrade my ram but as long as i have at least 2 slots for ram sticks, im fine) from what it sounds like, The I7-4790 is the cpu im looking for (to stop bottlenecking while enabling streaming) and the H97 is the board i need to support it, my 980ti, and ddr3 ram. is this correct?
  14. I see. Would that work with the same motherboard and ram configuration mentioned above?
