  1. Now Steam is showing similar issues, I guess there's something wrong in the system after all
  2. Yesterday I flashed my PC, ran all Windows updates and updated all drivers. Today I've started installing programs. Sadly, today I've already encountered an issue with Chrome where it lost internet connection after 5 minutes (other browsers ran fine). Long story short - I was able to fix it in regedit by changing a value. But this opens a larger question - if you have to go into the registry and fix a problem on day 2 after a fresh OS install, should you just scrap it and reinstall Windows again? On the one hand, this was an application error and not a system error, but on the other hand I can't help but feel there may be more to come. Though I'm no expert, hence why I turn to you.
  3. My idea at the moment is to update Windows and all drivers, install all programs and move over my storage, customize it all back and fix the settings that I like. Then I'll run Macrium Reflect and image everything on my PC. Then I'll store the image-file on my NAS. Essentially what happens every week for my system with my scheduled image backuping to my NAS, except I'll keep this file on elsewhere in the NAS and label it "Fresh Install" or something. EDIT: How volatile is this with regards to hardware drivers and such? Obviously this idea won't work if I were to swap out the mobo, but what about excanging RAM, GPU, etc?
  4. So I'm about to flash my PC, backed up and ready. And suddenly I start thinking - should I perhaps once I'm done setting up my PC and it's fully operational again, do a full image backup? That way the next time I do a reinstall I can just load up the image as a snapshot and be back with fresh and clean drivers and all and won't have to manually reinstall most softwares and such, and maybe just have to compensate with some Windows updates and additional files? Or is there something that I've missed? EDIT: To be clear, I'd do this image once all programs are installed again. and my manual backup has been added in etc.
  5. Over at the support page for my motherboard, I can download and update my chipset drivers, USB drivers, etc among other things such as updating BIOS. I wanted to freshen up my PC driver wise so I've updated the BIOS so far, and now I'm considering updating the chipset and USB drivers as well. Question is, do I really need to do that manually, or is it handled by Windows update? Or is this some sort of firmware update that I need to do manually like when updating the BIOS? 6. Been using EVGA Precision X for some time now since I liked it more. However I'm starting to grow tired of all the constant updates it wants to do (mostly one update every month, sometimes even more), so I've been looking towards MSI Afterburner instead if it has less frequent updates. But I can't find any version history to see how often they update their software. Anyone here who could pinpoint me in the right direction or tell me from their own experience how often MSI Afterburner gets updated?
  7. It's a Lenovo Thinkpad E530 from 2012. It's my travel computer and I travel so seldom that it's not worth investing in a new one, I rather just keep it alive The fan can every once in a while spin up to normal fully, but most of the times it's barely moving and you can hear it struggling, if it starts spinning at all. I personally believe there could be 3 things that have gone wrong: - The motor itself of the fan is dying from age (most likely) - The fan is not properly plugged in (not likely as it went normal speed an hour ago for 5 min) - The mobo header or similar is broken and doesn't supply proper power (but occasionally manages somehow)
  8. My fan is no longer spinning up properly when starting the laptop, giving me a fan error message upon boot. Luckily I've found the right replacement part to replace the fan. However before ordering the replacement I just want to open up the laptop to check and make sure everything is looking good and that it really is the fan dying and that it's not caused by any fault on the motherboard. Aside for checking that the fan is properly plugged in and making sure the fan header isn't damaged, are there any other things on the motherboard that I can look for if there's any fault on it causing the fan not to spin up properly? Would it for instance be possible to grab a spare fan and connect it to see if it starts spinning, or are desktop fans not compatible with laptop motherboard fan headers?
  9. It's a full OS with an interface that you log into via the web browser.
  10. To give some more insight on what you can do with one, I have one myself that my entire family uses for backups. Just like jevjev pointed out, a NAS can be accessed from anywhere in the network, whereas an external HDD can only be accessed by the computer it's plugged into (although you can probably connect external HDDs to some routers, but that's less common and you still have the advantage that a NAS is after all a server computer, so it has more features). So all PCs in our home can access the NAS, and have a backup software installed that backups the entire PC onto the NAS following a schedule, meaning none of us has to lift a finger until something goes wrong on a PC.
  11. Nevermind fixed it. The driver was interfering with an audio codec.
  12. I just got a pair of JBL Reflect Contour 2 earbuds for when working out, but I figured I'd also set things up so I could connect them to my desktop at home as well. However whenever I try to play music on my PC via bluetooth I get weird stuttering noise (almost sounds like a lofi helicopter?!). Everything is nice and silent as it should be until I hit play, where the noise starts and doesn't go away until I disconnect the earbuds. I also get this noise whenever a Windows notification sound gets played. Is there any settings in Windows I need to configure? Because the earbuds work flawlessly through my smartphone. If it helps I'm using a bluetooth dongle, with CSR driver installed to it.
  13. Hmm it doesn't look like your motherboard has it, check the manual on how you do trouble shooting on that motherboard. Otherwise an error code would look something like this: I've too had issues with the screens not turning on, sometimes because my RAM settings were unstable where I'd get an error code pointing at the RAM config (this could also be the case with RAM not working properly). Have you updated your graphics card driver recently? If there's a bad patch, things could start glitching up.
  14. If you open up the PC when it doesn't boot up properly, do you see any error code being displayed on the motherboard (if it has that feature)? Have you overclocked your memory, or running any XMP or AMD equivalent? Also, please list your specs and overclocks if there are any, plus GPU driver version.
  15. So there are known issues with my monitors (Dell U2414H) if you daisychain 2 or more of them via displayport 1.2. I have this issue sometimes, is there any chance that this could fix it?
  16. Go and take an icecold shower - start off with moderately cold water, then turn the temperature down regurarly until you reach the limit that you can handle - then when you're almost done in the shower, just turn down the temperature a bunch, and count to 30 while you stand there and shiver. If you still feel down after the shower, then allow yourself to feel down for the moment - because you are allowed to feel down sometimes. Just zone out for a few hours and listen to some music or whatever you prefer to do, just don't do anything that requires focus, as you'll just feel irritated that you can't focus because of your worries.
  17. The LLC scaling on ASUS boards goes from 1 to 9, rather than low medium high etc. However, is the LLC "aggressiveness" increasing by the number (as in 1=low and 9=high) or the opposite direction (as in 1=high and 9=low). Asking because I've seen mixed responses when googling it.
  18. I'm looking into LLC and experimenting with the overclock on my i7 5820k CPU, but I can't find the specified safe voltage from Intel aka the VID, which would be very helpful to know when experimenting with LLC. Does anyone know?
  19. Well what is your intended usage for the PC? Bit off topic, but this video gives some good insight on why you shouldn't bother with super high speed memory:
  20. It's been months, and I'm still waiting for the BIOS update with the Spectre and Meltdown bandaids for my ASUS X99-board, but nothing yet Have any of you other guys received any BIOS update for your older ASUS boards?
  21. Windows 10 forced an update on my laptop last week (1709), and ever since I have a Conexant audio driver with terrible audio quality that I can't get rid of. I've disabled automatic device driver updates (Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Hardware), yet whenever I uninstall the unit and its driver back to the regular High Definition Audio Device driver within the device manager, it eventually reinstalls the bad Conexant driver. What can I do?
  22. Fixed it. Forgot to tick in the option to also uninstall the driver when uninstalling from the device manager. EDIT: NEVERMIND Conexant reinstalled itself again?!
  23. Tried it, I only lost all audio and had to reboot to get it back, only to find out the Conexant driver was back.
