  1. now either my eyes are ruined or it stopped, the hell is going on D: i'll try and find out if i can return it, i emailed the company i bought it from, thanks guys~
  2. hi guys, my pretty new monitor (few months old) just started randonly slightly pulsating/flickering, brightness wise doesnt make any difference what i do in terms of adjusting the brightness, although increasing the contrast seems to cut down on the effect on the whites (but coloured things like youtube videos for example still pulsate) its very subtle, but its hurting my eyes already. any ideas? its definately a issue with the monitor, not the pc, tried it with another pc and my old xbox 360, same issue
  3. i think the amd reference blower cooler looks better than the nvidia one now, whats wrong with me D:
  4. so what exactly is it doing when you're trying to install?
  5. can you get a service code/tag from the machine? or get the current owner to send it you?, you can search the service code on dells website and it wil give you the system config from when it was shipped usually
  6. well the motherboard and availiable bios's for it will have some say on what cpu's are supported, can you get the motherboard model number or something and look that up?
  7. buy games and gift them to friends with your steam wallet funds, then have them to give you the monies into paypal, rather than them adding money to buy games at no loss to you aside from paypal fees, and any discounts you give to your friends for them helping you out and less risky than selling keys to strangers who will potentially screw you over
  8. does the new ram match the old ram?, in other words is the older ram kingston fury, or are you mixing 2 different sets of 2x4gb, if so, that can cause weirdness/instability.
  9. ebay probably, or anywhere else selling second hard parts, doubt you can get one new or from a retailer
  10. yeah, as the previous guy said, it looks like its been repaired and someones put that flux on there to show that (and stop people from fiddling with there repair probably) my advice would be to leave it alone if the board works, its probably there for a reason
  11. look, its really simple, anything more extreme than the q9400 or x3330 on the 775 socket is going to be rare and expensive, and not worth the extra cost, its a false economy (here in the uk atleast) thats why i have a x3330 in my ghetto spare pc 771 modded cpu's/sockets are complicated for some and if he isnt up to doing that, obviously they arent a viable solution am3+ would be a silly upgrade this close to zen's release just... just get a q9400/x3330 or a q6600 for as cheap as you can get it, throw it in there along with 8gb of ram and wait, thats honestly the best solution in terms of cost for performance in your situation if you really have to upgrade now because none of that stuff is powerful enough, go intel and buy a skylake chip *cries
  12. i doubt he'd care, aslong as he can turn it on and open a chrome or firefox browser window, the os's layout doesnt really make a difference, it makes me wonder why i bothered with windows on it in the first place
  13. Hi there, just a quick question, i'm planning on swapping out the internals of my fathers desktop from a aging C2D based system to a low power 1155 celeron since i have the parts laying about, it should make for a much faster system that uses probably half the power, its about time i think, that c2d bothers me Is it worth me installing windows 7/8/10 on it if all he does is web browse and play the occasional browser flash game?, thats literally all he does, a 64gb ssd is the only storage in the machine, and he doesnt even need most of that, the machine is ONLY used for web browsing, so i was considering just throwing linux mint on there and using that as i know its fairly windowsy looking so it would be familiar. what, if any are the potential downsides of this over me re-installing a windows os?, like i said, its ONLY used for web browsing. any thoughts or tips would be helpful, i plan on installing mint on one of my own machines to fiddle around with it first either way, i just wanted to know if anyone has decided that a linux based os is a good choice for a web browsing pc, or has installed it for there own, less than tech savy parents, and with how much success. thanks, peas~
