  1. Yeah. I kept seeing so many: Which switch is loudest and what switch would be good for me posts that I figured a one stop shop for beginners would be useful here.
  2. CM Storm, Ducky Shine II, DAS Silent - More! there are a ton of good keyboards! You have to provide more restrictive qualities: ie Backlight? Tenkeyless or numpad or 60%? PBT or ABS Caps? Media Keys? Programmable Keys? Layout ISO vs Ansi? Then we can point you in a good direction :) If you need help understanding mechanical keyboards and differences between them: Check out the Simple Questions and Simple Answers! Sounds, Switches, and a Cloud of Boobs: Mechanical keyboards! Thread
  3. I didn't mean to try and insult you. I'm just trying to point out that your post wasn't very relevant to the purpose of the thread. I think that your concerns would be better addressed in a thread of your own. :) Edited: Changed post to thread
  4. The question should be phrased better as: Does anyone have an idea when this years Ducky keyboards will be released in the U.S.? The word "Ducky" in this sentence is merely an adjective and does not need to be pluralized.
  5. Mechanical Keyboards don't make you a better gamer haha. They will improve your typing speed, last longer, and make your typing experience more comfortable. I dont have much experience in FPS gaming so I will quote a post by an ex CS pro. "For FPS ideally you want a linear switch so it's either the blacks or the reds. My personal favorite is the reds. I had the Steelseries 7g, which uses blacks, for about 2 years before getting the Leopold FC500r which has reds and immediately fell in love with the Leopold. The reds are the lighter version of the blacks and logically to me it made sense to use the switch that needs the least amount of force to press. I've been using the reds for sessions in Planetside 2 that have lasted 5+ hours and my hands don't get that tired, sluggish feeling they used to get from the blacks. Of course your hands may feel different after using both switchs, this is just from personal experience. You can get the Leopold for $90 right now: Reds - http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,fullsize&pid=fc500rrab Blacks - http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,fullsize&pid=fc500rlab I have 2 full size Leopolds in reds and blues, and a TKL in browns and haven't had problems with any of them. Only downside to the full size Leopold is Leopold decided to use a spacebar that NO ONE ELSE USES so finding key cap sets with the right space bar are basically impossible. Source: Over 10 years of FPS experience including 3 years of competitive CS 1.6" Many professional gamers within the SC2 and Moba communities also use mechanical keyboards. TL:DR Will it benefit your gaming? Probably only if you find your actions are a bit latent or if you are currently on a terrible keyboard. It will however make your computing experiences better on a whole :)

  7. While I agree that ducky has become somewhat of the poster child for a quality mech, they do make good keyboards. Ducky has lots of options in terms of led switch and form factor of keyboard which is why they are so prevalent. CM keyboards are also really good as they are made by the same OEM as filco. The Ducky keyboards also suit the OP's requests! Though CM Storm keyboards are also good, they lack the combination of features the OP is looking for. MJOLNITR VIPER is a bit extreme but please don't comment in a thread "CM Storm & Rosewill are the best. Filco if you want premium and a little more expensive. DAS is great too. My friend has had 2 Ducky shine's and they all have this weird sound with LED's on." when CM Storm, Filco, and Das Keyboards (though being great keyboards) do not suit the OP's needs.
  8. USB 3.0: Come on Corsair! It's 2013, USB 3 is the standard! They keyboard itself would not see any gain from using USB 3.0. The only benefit would be to the USB hub. I doubt they wanted to add the extra premium of incorporating USB 3.0.

Ripster is the foremost expert on mechanical keyboard switches. He does have his air of arrogance and drama but his content is very informative and in-depth. r/Mechanicalkeyboards contains quite the comprehensive wiki but I personally find it very hard to navigate and could be confusing to the first time buyer. You missed ______?!?!? Thanks! I will try and edit in where possible and if not overlapping. You took credit for _____? My original idea was to write my own guide to switches, modifications, and terminology however there were many great resources already available! I therefore decided that a post containing links to great guides and visuals would be the best way to get information into the LinusTechTips forum. Where is information about ____? I tried to only include information that was pertinent to the new buyer. I would be open to making a more advanced wiki. This thread can also be used for simple questions and answers! i.e. Is there a mechanical keyboard with interchangable switches? No the only way to change switches is desolder or remove the stem.
