  1. Welp I think I have to bow out and just buy a different case at this point. During recent showcase of anodized dice y(the cheese grater) panels for the “lucky 10” several discord users pointed out that the panels didn’t match. I believe it was Alex Gomez intent to ship those expedited cases with mismatched panels. After it was pointed out by several users Alex finally relented and went back to the anodizer to try to color match the panels. It was then revealed that the 300 cases “shipped” in May are being recalled to color match as well. That seems to indicate that they ALSO didn’t match. In my mind I believe that they knowingly shipped poor quality products and only recalled them because they were called out. I’m done. They have spent all the time and attention and furthermore stolen 1.5 million dollars from backers. I guess I calculated the risks of backing but man am I bad at math.
  2. Tried to get Alex Gomez to respond regarding m.ritchies Open PM and he deflected again
  3. To date Alex Gomez the project owner has not responded to m.Ritchie about Alex’s misinterpretation of M.ritchies attempt to remove every obstacle and pay for an expedited standard case. Alex has been tagged, pmed and brought up live that he needs to address the misinterpretation and make it right. Again to date he hasn’t.
  4. It seems like Dune isn't willing to ship anything until march 2022 unless you pay extra. they supposedly dispatched 300 cases to a third party logistics company on may 31st 2021 yet those cases have never left their home port. they claim the shipping crisis has outcompeted them, but in reality the crisis is that they aren't willing to pay market price to ship anything. Dune discovered that the clips that they had manufactured for their front panel are difficult to use with the Dice Y front panel accessory. So theve been waiting over 5 weeks now to adjust their clip mold and with no end in sight. supposedly over 1000 dice y panels are waiting for anodizing for some reason. Discord user M.ritche calmly and concisely tried to remove all roadblocks asking dune to keep the dice y panel that he paid for and let him pay for expedidted shipping of JUST the standard case, Alex Gomez misinterpreted his request either willfully or igornatly and went on a long discussion about manufacturing forecasts and didn't answer the question. two other users SoulSniffer and myself both pointed out in the live Q&A that he did that and ask that he address it again and failed to get any response. later M.ritche posted in discord this PM he had sent to Alex. Soulsniffer also pointed out in clear concise language that the newly floated expedited container pricing was of by about 20000 dollars since Dune was already Willing to pay the bloated pricing on standard container pricing and dune stated that the pricing was estimated as such so that everyone would pay for their expedited containers weather the container was going to the USA or Saudi Arabia Any comments that are critical of the shipping delays are met with boilerplate shipping crisis and covid excuses and the indiegogo comments section are bascially Matt, Dunes part time marketer and discord admin, copy pasting the same response on all of the comments Matt who keeps the discord at a cooldown between 2 minutes and 5 minutes also is often quite dismissive and snarky of comments critical of dune https://ibb.co/wrqF4Td So where we are now is that the product that was supposed to ship January 2020, November 2020, May 31st 2021, October 2021 and was supposed to be available to have backers choose at their expense to Expedited ship October 1 will continue to wait till March 2022 and beyond to receive any news of shipments.
  5. What happened Linus? did we not make the doc? OOOOO Last minute coverage
  6. Oh boy has this crowdfunding campaign kicksharted the bed. If the team wants to revisit this story there has been delays, lies, missed deadlines, empty boxes that were said to actually contain product and the company owner, in china now for like 6 months and missed his latest deadline. EVERY time Alex Gomez is questioned in the discord server he goes into his years of experience, the delays and rising costs and assures us the project is coming along. the Halo product of the crowdfunding campaign is the Dice-Y case and other than the factory golden sample not a single one has been seen. the Indiegogo comments section, now 4000 comments strong, the Backer discord server has been put on what seems to be a permanent 5 minute delay between comments. both the owner and the PR guy Matthew Thompson "Matt- Dune" have responded to their customers in sarcastic and dismissive ways. May 28th was their latest missed deadline, missed due to alleged power outages in the region in china. The Dune team chose a "live q&a" days later to show the case assembly process. The quotations are because the video wasnt live. it was prerecorded with the Dune teams total contribution to that "live" video being the following: Dune Case Alex Gomez hi there Dune Case Who is excited! Dune Case Apologies, the resolution is 720P for premieres. Alex Gomez there is cases in the boxes Dune Case @Brian Hough Definitely stacked up with cases. Dune Case @Martin Eastwood Thank you for the support! Dune Case @Cary M Approximately 100 in the first batch today, full speed from now. Dune Case @John Schmidt Increasing. 100 is for the first day, to evaluate production. As production has operated smoothly today, we can scale up from now on. Dune Case Dice-Y update imminent. Dune Case Production of Dice-Y has been finalised, and underway. Remember Dice-Y is under NDA so we will not go into as much depth compared to other components. so for 6 months in country they supposedly have 100 cases ready to ship. 100. on the 28th...no the 31st... no but the shipping labels are printed. Thus far no user has reported reciept of any kind of tracking number or notification of shipping. there are over 4000 backers, most of them Dice-Y backers and according to Alex himself none are ready to ship with the first batch of 100. Matt-Dune assures backers on social media that they can produce up to 20000 cases a month but that volume seems a far cry from what has been produced so far. Also in the "live" video q&a there was distinct lack of components on the assembly line for the case including: - No power button installed. - No cables. - No USB board. - No PCI slot covers. - Missing screws and accessories (cable ties). - Missing dust filters. - No Dice-Y. Overall Dune LLC's message has always been one of misrepresent, overestimate, and obfuscate. Here is an example of every time they said they were close to deliver, direct quotes from Dunes team: Nov 27th, 2019: "The Dune Team is happy to report that the manufacturing has started and we are constantly monitoring the production and output quality of the factory." Jan 9th, 2020: "As mentioned in our schedule, we expect the production to be finished by January 18 2020. In the next 10 days we will be monitoring closely to make sure that every case that is shipped has no fault or defects." Jan 22nd, 2020: "All the packaging and assembly guys are all ready on Jan 18 to put this together and ship it out in Late January." Feb 28th, 2020: "Once we are finally able to resume manufacturing and ensure quality, we are very confident that the process will not take more than 3 weeks to finish and release." May 21st, 2020: "we were on target to deliver the cases at the end of January 2020" Oct 20th, 2020: "With Alex safely in China and now in quarantine, we are on track for a Late November Shipping" Nov 15th, 2020: "We are still on track for a late November shipping." May 14th, 2021: "the Dune Pro is on track to start shipping to our backers starting the 28th of May" May 28th, 2021: "Backers can expect Shipping Confirmation emails starting 31st May 2021" Since the Discord mod team was activly deleting posts users tried to link to the unoffical Dune Community server where there was no limit on comments. the Mod team responded by deleting every mention of the other server stating it was against their rules. the offical server existed since early in the project and only had rules posted on may 29th. oh and those rules dont indicate that users cant post links to other servers. Their PR team has pressed hard recently touting their (now missed) shipping deadline as a good time to buy. In fact the phrase "Buy Now" is used in almost every one of their posts. They make it seem like if you purchased today youll have it shipped soon where the truth seems to be far from that. its only if you follow the link do you then discover that if you give them money, its still under the murky consumer protections of crowdfunding a campaign not actually buying a product All in all its been my worst experience crowdfunding and I hope someone takes a look at this. @LinusTech Im including a link to the Dune Community server since users cant generate a invite to the Backer server https://discord.gg/3gVx2uCRqx
  7. Was that a picture of the Langley BC Temple? I got married there
  8. Good morning LTT community, I have a concept that I'm looking for validation or comments on regarding my in-home pc experience. What I want to do is use a central PC as a plex media server and a Steam In-Home Streaming machine to serve content to TVs around my house. I want to be able to leverage a powerful PC to do the heavy lifting for plex transcoding and to be able to serve as a network "cloud computing" machine to run my steam games off of and stream them to the same TVs. Basically what I want is to have one nice machine stream my own content to the TVs in the house to watch movies or stream games What I have so far: I have a Dell XPS 8500 with a 16 GB of ddr3 1600 and a R9 280x. storage has been across a 120 boot SSD, a 2 TB storage drive and a 1 TB WD Green in a enclosure attached via USB 3 to the PC. at this point the PC is connected to my living room TV. I've set up a plex media server pulling from the external hard drives content for its library. I feel like Im half way to my concept because i can use plex and chromecast on my other TV to stream my content to that other TV on the network. but I am wondering about the Steam Streaming. whats best? I have thought about building a HTPC in a micro ITX box for each of the TVs and sticking the main tower in a closet. I've looked at Intel NUCs as a barebones alternative as well. even considered buying cheap pre-built PCs to connect to each TV for the steam streaming but I don't know what to expect and what path is best. I'm not so concerned with pricing of the setup as long as the end result is awesome. on the client PCs id probably use Kodi to serve the plex content unless there is something better. What do you think? where do i go from here? I have a few ideas but i dont know what would serve my desires the best. Thanks for reading. Brandon
  9. Hey ltt community, I am looking for some info on where to go with a nas project ID like to start. I have some old drives and some storage that I'd like to put together for network access and kinda like my personal cloud. I would like to also run Plex on this server and host a Minecraft box as well. I am intrigued by the ltt video about using server hardware but not set on that. Where do I go from here. I'm not super savvy with OS stuff but I'm not one to shy away from learning something new. I know freenas and unraid are options but what about windows server? Thanks for reading I hope you can point me to what I should consider for a good nas os
