  1. I definitely do feel like one of the luckiest PC parts hunters in the world. I would have never been able to afford anything like this under normal circumstances. I am already set up for my next GPU upgrade which will probably be in a few years.
  2. Posting this in CPUs as that was the main thing I am exitedabout here. Since I got the platform alone for way less than MSRP, I am counting everything else as gravy. My Partner is thrilled with the deal too as the case, monitor (1440p 165hz IPS) and 3060Ti all went into her setup along with her existing i5 10400f. The juicy platform has already been moved to my PC along with a 6700 XT I grabbed for $230 around a year ago. Oh and BTW, I already have an NHD-15 on order and will only be using the hyper 212 for a few days while I wait on that. I gotta say it’s way faster than the i7 4770 I upgraded from, but I guess that is to be expected when you jump over a decade in CPU performance. Cinnebench R23 took minutes per render on my old CPU and now it takes seconds. I think I might have used up all my luck for this year, but my birthday was the other day and let me tell you, it was a good one because of this deal.
  3. Going to be setting up Hogwarts Legacy on the PC I built for my Fiancé out of old parts. Ended up with an i7 3770, GTX 1070, 16GB DDR3 1600MHZ, and was able to fit the game on the boot SSD. What kinds of settings should I look to turn down or up to get the game looking the best it can at 1080P while getting around 60 FPS?
  4. It’s a ASUS Maximous vi extreme. The ram is a bit of a mixed bag. 2 matched 8gb sticks running at 1600 and then 2 mismatched running at 1333 so it is all clocked down to 1333. Honestly I got the extra ram for like 5$ a piece so I decided to go for the 32GB at the lower speed.
  5. Yea, I was thinking it seems like a good buy. I think it will make sense. As long as I wont be bottlnecking things down to a slide show I think I’ll be happy.
  6. I am looking at getting a used 6700 xt for $235 USD but I wanted to make sure that my i7 4770 won’t be too much of a bottleneck at 1440P until I can upgrade my CPU. Thank you for your help!!
  7. I don’t see a need for you to upgrade anything. It is also a pretty bad time to buy a PSU because miners are buying out all the good ones.
  8. Definitely wait a few months. Your budget won’t get you a better GPU in the current market unless you get extremely lucky and find something like a 3060ti, 3070, or 6800xt at MSRP. The good news is that all trends point to an imminent crash sometime very soon. The 2070 super is a really solid card so I think waiting here is definitely worth while. Because the crash is so imminent with crypto tanking and new GPUs hitting the market soon this is actually the worst possible time to buy a GPU unless you can find one at MSRP.
  9. Oh, thank goodness. I was picturing something like a GTX 1080 which would be quite the squeeze with that processor at 500w. In that case I would say it’s almost certainly a limitation of the chip and not a power issue unless the PSU is giving out. Not everyone can win the silicon lottery.
  10. Dial back the overclock, it’s clearly not stable. Every chip is different, and yours just isn’t up to 3.9z. Also what GPU are you running, because 500w is a pretty weak supply to be overclocking on, especially if you have a power hungry GPU.
  11. One good tip is that running at higher resolutions will squeeze more life out of your CPU by offloading more work onto the GPU, so investing in an nice 1440P or 4K monitor might be a good play especially since you said that frame rate is not a huge deal to you.
  12. Faster ram doesn’t do all that much on the Intel side, it is more of an issue with Ryzen. You might get a mild improvement but it wouldn’t be worth the investment IMO. I would sit tight and wait for crypto to crash, and/or newer GPUs to launch (which will drive down the price of all older cards too) as both are going to happen soon. Prices are slightly down right now but that’s mostly because everyone is trying to ditch their stock before the market tanks.
  13. Back up any important files and do a fresh install of windows or you are asking for trouble. You jumped too many generations for there to be any hope of your old install working properly, and even if you get it to work you will likely run into lasting stability issues. Do yourself a favor and back up important files, write down your windows key and do a fresh install asap.
  14. CPU is not a bottleneck for those cards but please wait at least a few more months. All trends suggest massive price drops coming soon so this is a really bad time to buy unless you can find a card at MSRP.
  15. On the bright side the card is so old that getting something better is somewhat doable right now. also, why do you need a new case. What is wrong with the case you have? At your extremely low budget you don’t really have the luxury of upgrading aesthetics, especially when you have dead hardware to deal with. get another 8gb of ram and then look for a replacement card. Local listings are your best bet right now as eBay is a joke even for older GPUs. I have seen 500 series Nvidea cards pop up now and then for a decent price and a gtx 570 or 580 would be an upgrade from what you have.
  16. I would make a new post detailing everything you have tried so far to get the most help. I personally don’t know what else to try right now.
  17. It’s a literal potato with PCIE fingers. Only order it if you are hungry for some mashed potatoes.
  18. I opted for the 512 myself, mostly for the etched glare resistant glass
  19. They all need to work in the same socket with the same heat sinks so they make the IHS the same. Can you imagine if they had to make separate boards for budget skews (absolute mess)? Also all the CPUs are yawing the same LGA standard so it’s not like they can just magically not use some pins and be smaller on the bottom.
  20. Probably because of more bios weirdness were the bios is not controlling the fans like it would with a prober boot/post.
  21. Fiber won’t work unless there is fiber run in your house already And usually when services tell you they can run fiber to you they are lying and somewhere in the beginning of the chain it’s not fiber.
  22. Do you have access to a secret GPU supplier? If so I want in.
  23. Try reseating your ram and also try booting with only one stick and also try booting with no GPU in from your IGPU to see if it’s the card. If none of that works it could be a bad PSU or a wide range of other issues.
  24. If you like the new features on windows 11 you might as well considering support for 10 will presumably drop some day. On the other hand I have heard people say that they have issues with 11 such as worse gaming performance in some cases so you mileage may vary (I have not personally tried 11 so I’m just going off the advice of others here).
  25. It might work but it is a lot more risky for long term life of the card than a heat gun. Just make sure you never cook in the oven again if you try that as it will no longer be safe to do so.
