  1. It looks like the gigabyte board you mentioned supports some Xeon E3 and usually these can be had for cheaper than a comporable i7. Copied from the Gigabyte site: The ones with N/A in 3rd column do not include iGPUs. Check the specs of these chips on ark.intel.com, see if you can find one you like used for cheaper. Intel Xeon E3-1275 3.40GHz 8MB 1050 MHz Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 95W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1245 3.30GHz 8MB 1050 MHz Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 95W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1235 3.20GHz 8MB 1050 MHz Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 95W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1225 3.10GHz 6MB 1050 MHz Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 95W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1290 3.60GHz 8MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 95W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1280 3.50GHz 8MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 95W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1270 3.40GHz 8MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 80W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1240 3.30GHz 8MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 80W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1230 3.20GHz 8MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 80W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1220L 2.20GHz 3MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 20W 100 F2 Intel Xeon E3-1220 3.10GHz 8MB N/A Sandy Bridge 32nm D2 80W 100 F2
  2. 9th gen is not affected by ZombieLoad, you will be just fine.
  3. Ok I was wrong on that new steppings of 8th gen also include hardware fixes for L1TF, Meltdown and ZombieLoad. But that does not apply to Spectre, which still needs software/microcode mitigations currently on all CPUs.
  4. You can get an RTX 2060 for less, than the V64 if you want nvidia.
  5. Do an in place upgrade to Pro, your apps will be deleted, but data stays. But an in place upgrade is kind of messy, so I suggest backing up to an external/secondary hard drive. NOTE: I highly recommend unplugging your secondary HDD during the Windows install, to make sure you won't format your data drive by accident.
  6. Yes he is fine. But to be clear 8th gen has no hardware fixes for anything, and 9th gen only for Meltdown. Spectre, Zombieload, Foreshadow, etc. only have software mitigations on every current CPU.
  7. All modern CPUs suck in terms of security (yes that includes AMD and I'm typing this on a 2400G). Zombieload "fix" only takes away 30% in some workloads if you disable HT, but most OSs by now have other mitigations. Choose your CPU based on perf/$ for your application (I assume it's gaming for you) not vulnerabilities.
  8. Maybe in the US, but here more like for $180.
  9. No chance of getting it for $80, for $100 it's still the cheapest used card + it's sapphire nitro+ and those usually sell for more than crappier ones. I'm upgrading my 2400G APU box. I am not a huge gamer, but sometimes play DOOM (2016, not the old one), and some more demanding emulators like PCSX2 and Dolphin.
  10. That card with 10 GBP shipping, is more like $170.
  11. Last time I checked, you had lower VAT, but even that doesn't explain why a new 570 is more like 180$.
  12. A new 570 4 gig is more like $180-190 here, thanks to taxes. Most brands don't handle RMA directly in Hungary, and you mainly do RMA with the retailer/shop you bought it from here. And it's incredibly common to pass warranty papers, when you sell used hardware and most shops are fine with it.
  13. Here a new RX570 is more like $180. Thanks 27% VAT.
  14. It's in the title. It is an ex-mining card, but still has warranty until 2020/01/06. Should I buy or look for something else?
  15. Install Ubuntu in VirtualBox or vmware.
  16. +1 on that, get a different PSU that one is crap
  17. Very nice build if you're low on space, but if you're buying a hard drive why only a 500 gig one? if it takes space in your case anyways just get at least a 2TB one, that way you can actually fit some games on it
  18. Well it depends on what games you play at what settings and what kind of framerate do you want at what resolution. EDIT: The 280x performs around the 1050Ti in most games.
  19. That 280x is still a fairly capable GPU (and GPU prices are insane right now), so depending on what your budget is replacing that CPU with a second hand i7 3770 might be a good option or if you want something better (and have the money for it) you might want to consider upgrading to Coffee Lake or Ryzen, but than you also need to buy new DDR4 RAM which is also insanely expensive and a new motherboard.
  20. It will probably not kill the CPU in practice, but in theory it is not the best idea. I have done it in the past with a Pentium 4 CPU, but that CPU was only worth like 10$ back when I did, so if you care about your old chip it is not the best idea.
  21. Yes you can use LGA771 xeons on that board, but please remember that it was never officially supported so you have to cut 2 plastic tabs out of the socket and you also need a pin adapter sticker for the Xeon. And keep in mind that, you might have to flash your bios with a modded one with the LGA771 Xeon microcode. EDIT: For running macOS it does not really matter what Xeon you use, because almost all LGA775/LGA771 CPUs are compatible, so get what you can for a good price
  22. Backup your files and re-install Windows, because you obviously have some kind of virus that shows itself as regsvr32, which is by the way not a host process as someone said previously, it is used for registering DLLs and OCXs files, but it will never take up half of your CPU unless you are running on a 33MHz 486-DX. ("contacting windows" is not a thing, because Windows is a name of a product not an entity you can contact and) if anyone says they are "windows" or "from windows" your likely the victim of an indian tech support scam call
  23. It depends on what you do in Photoshop or InDesign, for instance if you design very high resolution artwork, you might run out of RAM, but otherwise it should run all those older games and even most newer ones at 1080p, but at low/medium settings.
  24. Does your GTX760 show up in Device Manager?
  25. The easiest test by far is testing your express card slot with a different device and check if it works. Than if does and you have a different GPU on hand, test your dock with that, if it works than your GPU is dead, if it doesn't your dock is likely the problem.
