    This feels like a question better asked 40 years ago but I have run into a wall and feel like at least ONE person on this forum has experience with it. The drive is the Shugart 801 with an LSI PCB, supposedly meaning it does not need -5VDC compared to earlier models. The main problem is that the stepper motor works FORWARD but not backward, meaning the head can go all the way out but must manually be pushed back in. This means a disk cannot be read/written to effectively. The stepper motor seizes up when trying to go backwards. Everything else seems right to me based on the fact it is mostly working properly in DOS, minus the said problem. I have it going from a 34 pin floppy cable in a PIII system going to 50 pin shugart and Windows 2000 can even send signals to it. I found the service manual here (39025-1_SA800_801_Service_Manual_Mar82.pdf) which has been pretty helpful so far but does not state anything about the stepper not stepping backwards. If I had to guess, it is either a bad servo, a bad track 0 detector (making it impossible to go backwards) or possibly a failed component on the PCB, though every component looks to be in perfect shape. Hope someone can help, I have a lot of data I need to recover!

    Damn. Destructive to the chip too or just the heatsink? I would be somewhat okay if I had to put a new old stock heatsink on the chip if it meant putting on good, new TIM.

    I recently got an important Pentium III system that was sitting in an attic for over 15 years, and was wondering if there was a way of changing the thermal paste that didn't involve destroying the entire heatsink. There is not much heat coming out of the exhaust at full load, so I am concerned that the TIM is basically powder by this point. For reference, it is the stock SECC2 heatsink - Hoping someone around here is old enough to still know how to do this

    My bad on the timings, I did not change that on the calculator. I guess I will have to try to search for adapters based on max pixel clock then, if it's even listed.

    I work in tech retail (very similar to Microcenter) and noticed a few things off the bat- The mobo does not (at least at first glance) seem to support 5000 series Ryzen CPUs, based on ASUS' site. It would be wise to find a similar one that shows that support. If you can find a HDD from another manufacturer, I'd recommend staying away from Seagate and especially the Barracuda line. Of all drives that come into the repair shop dead, the only make that beats Seagate is Toshiba. I'd steer towards something WD if possible. Hope this helps.

    I have recently bought a HRR CRT monitor and while I have an ancient machine with VGA out that can run it at up to 160Hz, I would like to be able to use it with modern devices. I have looked around and can only seem to find adapters that limit the output to 1080p60. Before someone can say "but VGA only supports 60Hz!" like I have seen on other threads, this is simply not true and makes little to no sense when considering it is (for the most part) governed by the devices on either end of the cable. I also have physical proof as it works fine on a system over two decades old at this point. Anyways, here is what I have to work with - Outputs: HDMI 2.0 (14.40 Gbit/s) DP 1.4 (25.92 Gbit/s) Bandwidth Required: 3.72 Gbit/s (1600x1200 @ 75Hz) 3.52 Gbit/s (1024x768 @ 160Hz) These two modes are exposed by the monitor, so it is not a question of whether it can handle it or not. They both fit within the proper pixel clock rate too. So... are they out there - at least some under $100? Any help to source one of these mystical adapters that allows for modes like this would be greatly appreciated.

    I have a pair of HyperX Cloud IIs which I use for CS:GO, and just yesterday, the microphone just stopped working. It can connect briefly, then will not be picking up any sound afterwards. The microphone is set to default along with the headset, and allowing listening to devicedoes nothing. I've plugged it back in, refreshed drivers, made sure the mic mute button was off, and pretty much everything you can think of (like restarting PC and unplugging from wall too). The headphones work but the microphone does not, even though it has been working fine for the last year or so. The headphones are still in good condition.

    I originally used a Mac to transfer all of my music in iTunes to my phone, but now I want to transfer the library to my PC so I don't have to go back and forth to get music onto my phone. What is a good way to do this? ?'? ?????? ?? ??? ???? ?? ?????? ?? ??????. Thank you.

    Just got it built, but when I applied some BIOS tweaks and saved and exited, the screen went black, and the PC didn't restart. Gave it over a minute to try to do something, nothing. Tried resetting CMOS with the button, took out the battery, and unplugged. The rig has 2 PSUs. All other components work fine. The keyboard and mouse haven't powered on since the first boot. Thank you. No parts got to any temps above 50C while inside the BIOS. Z400 Motherboard Proprietary Z400 PSU Antec 620w PSU Xeon x5670 GTX 770 Thanks!

    You could get it, but I would also check for 6700k prices. I got my 6700k for $280 when the 7700k was $330 back in January.

    I would highly recommend something like an x5670 or x5690 (both 6 core 12 thread CPUs) rather than a 4 core 8 thread CPU.

    Simply said, it will not detect my RAM and I cannot edit the Corsair Vengeance RGB DIMMs. I have a Gigabyte Z270 motherboard and RGBFusion. I've tried reinstalling, and nothing has changed.

    Nevermind, sorry. A bit of water actually did get into two switches from the keycap stems, so I let the keyboard dry for exactly 3 hours and it works fine now.

    I just cleaned my Strafe RGB (w/ blues) and now my keyboard is acting weird. Scroll Lock and F3 cannot be detected, and scroll lock randomly turns on and off. I took the keys off gently, and made pretty sure that the caps were dry before I put them back on. Is there a good fix for this? Thanks!

    For 60fps. 144hz ultra 1080p, you'd want at least a 1070.

    Make sure it's not on heat or it WILL melt some components, especially fans.

    Well, the ATX layout has to be flipped (like an old OEM PC) for the window to be on the other side. This is a little worse for airflow than standard ATX, so thats why most cases made for serious gamers aren't with the inverted layout. I'd recommend a Corsair 600C.

    My pc is always very very clean, mostly due to my NZXT GRID+ v2, which keeps the fans off when I'm not playing games so it takes at least 10x more time before I have to redust it.
