  1. @kokakolia Yeah, that's true. But the cable costs 40€... So it is definitely an upgrade path down the line if I want to make use of both the convenience of BT and the quality of wired headphones. But I don't really want to spend all that much right now. @AperumDesign Nice to hear you had a good experience with the wired ones, definitely seems like they are a safe bet. So, after checking the return policies to make sure I could return even in-ear headphones (was worried about hygiene clause in t&c), I have actually ordered both variants to see whether I can tell the difference between the D/A-Converter of the headphones vs. the one in my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8) which will be my primary source. Because in the end, my source won't be crazy good, just your run-of-the-mill music streaming service through the in-built soundcard of my phone/laptop so whether the difference in quality will be noticeable is a valid question. I will report back with my findings, thanks for your help
  2. Hi, I have been looking into getting a nice pair of in-ear headphones and found the Shure SE215 here. I really like them for the (supposedly) good sound quality and particularly for the option to interchange individual parts which guarantees a long life-span. However, I am now torn between paying ~120€ for the wired SE215 incl. the in-line remote (which is important to me) and ~140€ for the BT-version (which comes with the remote). I am willing to pay the extra 20€ for the flexibility, that comes with wireless headphones, however, I have always had a problem with the constant humming that I experienced with all of the BT-headphones I have tried (both cheap in-ears I owned and the Bose QE my friend owns). So, how much is audio quality affected by BT? Do I get (close to) the same quality with the wireless version + added flexibility? Or am I limiting the quality the buds could produce by having the input be wireless? Thanks a lot!
  3. Hi, with Black Friday deals coming up, I am looking for a new case to put my ATX system in. Nothing special: air-cooled, single GPU; HDD, SSD, BRD-Drive. I will also buy a new after market cooler, so I am flexible with clearance, I would prefer a larger case with more room, though. I'm looking for an understated aesthetic; black/grey with optional colour highlights (e.g. BeQuiet silent base, BitFenix Colossus) I don't need a side panel window, LEDs or anything. I'd rather invest in dust filters, a roomy interior and maybe sound-dampening. Budget: <100€ (or ~100$, prices are generally similar) Any ideas? What do you think are my best options? Thanks
  4. Unless I can find a phone that suits my needs (at least something smart about it) for about 20 quid, that too would be a financial mistake
  5. Or not so funny... Okay, thanks for your help. To summarise: My only option is replacing my battery. In my case, it is smarter to buy a new phone instead.
  6. Thanks for the tip! The thing is, I haven't got the tools to install it myself and it costs 30 quid at my local repairshop which is just as much as I would save by buying a new phone now vs in 2 months. So I might just buy the new phone now if there is no other fix... Sorry I should have said that above. Or are there any other quick and dirty fixes that would last me long enough for a new phone to arrive or even the two months I need?
  7. Hi guys, I have previously discussed a problem I had been having with my phone. Since then I have already done a hard reset of it a couple of months ago but it has gotten worse anyway. Now I have reached a new low. Yesterday evening, my phone died (which is quite a common occurence when it has less than 95% battery) but when I hooked it up to power (I tried both battery bank and wall outlet), The notification LED would turn red (indicating it is charging) and normally this would be followed by the battery charging animation popping up on screen. Instead after a few seconds the LED blinked red again and turned off (generally this indicates a too low battery level). I first thought I had a wonky usb connection but after being hooked up to power for about an hour, it would catch itself and start charging normally. It worked fine from then onwards until today, when I came home again and it died on me, same thing. I have several ideas what could be wrong: software faults: My phone is fairly old, it might be that a new update over the weekend (I think there were several) bricked my phone. But that shouldn't affect the performance on that low a level, correct? It might crash my OS, but preventing it from charging? And unless it is a pretty dexterous virus, I think we can assume it must be hardware related. hardware faults: The battery has been getting worse and worse since about November last year, recently it has been dying on me after about 10-15min of watching Youtube from 100% charge. I tried a hard reset, but that did not fix anything so I assume the battery fault is hardware related, presumably age related. Maybe this is linked? But then, what can I do? The only other thing I can think of is that the backpanel has come off about a month ago (it shouldn't have on my phone) and maybe something has gotten onto the PCB and shortened something. But I can't really imagine that, it would only be dust or BluTack (which I used to "fix" the backpanel) Any suggestions? My aim is to literally get the phone through another 9-10 weeks, I will get a new phone then anyway. If that means I have to carry a battery bank everywhere I go, that's fine, I'm already used to that. I just need it to work. Thank You Edit: Due to my intention of buying a new phone in 2-2.5 months, replacing the battery is in fact more expensive, than the amount I would save by buying it in said amount of time.
  8. Hi, I have had my Sony Xperia Z1 for around 2.5 years now. I am still very happy with its general performance, powerwise it is more than enough for my usage scenario. I usually use it for social media, news and listening to music. However, recently I have been noticing the symptoms of age increase... The touchscreen isn't as responsive as it once was, the cover for the charging port has come off long ago (sellotape works surprisingly well to hold in place) and a month ago the back panel has actually bent out of the frame. I don't really mind all that, I'm planning to get a new phone in the summer anyway, I just need it to work until then for my not very heavy daily tasks. Sadly, recently, the most dreaded things about ageing of a phone has become more and more noticable:Narcolepsy! My phone is simply dying on me even when there should be like 70% battery remaining. Sometimes, if I give it some time, I can restart it and have it work fine... Here are a couple of exemplary incidences: I was in a stadium trying to send out some braggy snaps over cellular data. I had charged my phone particularly for this occasion, left with 100% battery. I filmed some stuff in the stadium, 1.5h later, with a lot more than 0% remaining (probably about 60%-80%), my phone dies on me. I try again later on and can restart the phone as long as I try to keep the power usage at a minimum. With cellular data off, I could keep it going without cellular data enabled for another ~hour. Then I tried to go online again, 5min later my phone completely died. I went for a walk. Admittedly it was about -2 degrees C outside but I also had about 75% battery remaining. I listened to a podcast over Bluetooth and with cellular data enabled. Suddenly, with the phone in my pocket, it turned itself off. About half an hour later I restarted it the first time and it suddenly displayed 64% battery remaining. I started the podcast again, start snapchat, then it died again. I restarted it immediately (warming my phone with my hands constantly, dunno if that did anything) and it displayed 49% remained, with the number dropping by one about every 2 seconds. I connected my headphones, started the podcast, left cellular data off. It worked fine for another half hour, the battery display stabilised in the mid 30%. Then I tried to send a snap again and it died. A couple of minutes later I could restart it and listen to my podcast on 1% in stand-by with BT on and data off for the rest of my walk (maybe another 20min). This was just to illustrate my usage scenarios, hopefully showing off possible symptoms. Now, my solution is to buy a cheap, small external battery that I can take everywhere and use this as a functioning battery. Kind of like adult diapers, guaranteeing function where the original part failed. But is there anything else I can do? Is this just part of the normal ageing process? Why is my phone losing its shit when the battery is lower than 80% and I use my phone more heavily (as in both BT and data) while there is no dip in performance? Is the power output inconsistent? A few months ago, I could still depend on the battery, no matter how full it was, could still turn on data and GPS and all that and have it run consistently. What happened? I'm not really expecting any solutions apart from the external battery / new phone... But just out of interest, what do you think is failing here? Is it the battery cells just dying one by one? Is it the battery controller messing up? Thanks for any insights
  9. No. Essentially it is the same as two drives only smaller. SSHDs are really only useful if you don't have multiple slots or in tight spaces e.g. in a laptop.
  10. Depends on your use case scenario. I would recommend getting a small SSD (128GB or 256GB) and a big HDD for mass storage. Then you'd put your most used programs and your OS on the SSDs for fast loading times and use the HDD for mass storage e.g. for media, games you don't play as often, etc. I would recommend buying one big HDD like 2-3TB unless you want to set up something like a RAID. However if you have the money for a bigger SSD go for it, though I would consider the money better spent elswhere.
  11. It will both work. HDDs and SSDs are just two different technologies for storing data. I would recommend storing the games you play more often on an SSD, but if you have a lot of games you might want to buy an HDD for mass storage.
  12. I would recommend using at least a 50mm lense depending on your camera... But if you use a wide angle lens (<50) The photo will get distorted. Also focus on the eye closest to the camera and maybe open the aperture a bit for some nice bokeh(=blurry background stuff that looks good). Good luck
  13. I use amazon music, having prime I might as well (I'm too stingy to pay for a better music service). But the program is horrible, the app is slow af, sometimes music playback just stops for a split second even with downloaded titles and you can't combine your prime music with your own music in a playlist or anything... It has improved however since I first tried it and as it is still quite young I'll just keep hoping...
  14. Try running the games in compatability mode. I don't know why that would be the problem but it solved a similar problem for me.
  15. Did that, seemed ok.Thanks for the tip, though. But doing further troubleshooting I think I'm on to something. http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/739489-PC-Win7-8-vista-Solutions-gt-Far-Cry3-Has-Stopped-Responding-Forums I used the guide above and used the compatability mode(for win 8). It didn't work perfectly and crashed after I applied some settings I apperently shouldn't have applied but I'm getting there! I'll keep this post updated! If this doesn't work I'll try the other methods from that guide. Update! It works! I had to fiddle a bit with the display settings but here's what I did: I set both .exe-files (fc3_blooddragon.exe & fc3_blooddragon_d3d11_b.exe) to run in the windows 8 compatability mode. Now I'll try it with the normal Far Cry 3 but I got to download that first. I'll check back in again later with updates. OK Far Cry 3 worked with the same method.
