  1. Were you absent when Apple refused to fix his iMac Pro when he wanted to pay for the fix? Were you absent when Apple couldn't give him an email address for a media contact? Were you absent when he praised just about every iPhone after and including the 6S? Did you miss his praise for the watches? Linus does a great job keeping whatever he has against Apple bottled up. Most people would be raging in his position. Godforbid he tries to make money on his own videos.
  2. Is the forum side down? Or was my access revoked? The comments were a lot nicer on the forum, with embedded images etc. The new site has pretty comments but zero functionality. Also I hate having to manually rename the videos downloaded on floatplane.com, this was not an issue with the download button on the forum.
  3. You restart the PC and they are there. The code is all present but disabled on Home PCs. This is true, and it has listened to me. Sample size n=1
  4. You can delay by 365 days, I'm sure whatever issue you have will be fixed in that time frame. Semi-Annual not targeted delays by around six months just to make sure all the non-pro users find all the bugs lol.
  5. They do have a sort of off button, it's just not available to those with a home license apparently. I also second the Linux recommendation. I'll plug Linux Mint specifically.
  6. My apologies, it seems Microsoft is shafting users without a Pro license. That really sucks.
  7. I have exactly the same concerns and I'm not disputing what you've said here. I'm offering a way to disable the updates that are problematic, namely, feature updates. Also, with my settings, Windows has never interrupted my work, I think random restarts to install updates are just a meme at this point.
  8. I'm sure they sit around eating cupcakes all day, not worried about the coporations paying them billions of dollars a year to have stable and secure systems.
  9. Why would you want to disable security updates? Disabling those is akin to being an anti-vaxxer where you're endagering yourself and the people around you e.g. if your device becomes part of a botnet. You can defer feature updates like the pesky October update for over a year. Just go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options and choose to be on the semi-annual channel + deferred days. You can also disable updates by permanently disconnecting your device from the internet.
  10. Is the heatsink mounted correctly? It could be throttling.
  11. I've had an XPS 15 wiith the 4K display for years. I set scaling to 150% which may be a little bit small for most people but I can't use anything less than QHD now. There is just so much real estate that is useful to me every time I look at the screen. The difference in text rendering in browsers during everyday use is very noticable compared to 1080p. It's not quite as crisp as my phone but it's the best I can get. Scaling will be an issue with old programs. Windows is really great with scaling, it's lazy 3rd party programmers that have not touched the tools that Microsoft has provided them that need to be blamed. With that said, setting the scaling to 200% tricks nearly all programs into thinking it's 1080p and that trick hasn't failed me yet. The battery life is long, exactly how long it is on average depends on your preferences. I have been able to get 10+ hours out of it with only MS Word open, no Wifi, and minimum brightness (I was on a 13 hour flight). Having Chrome open with more than a few tabs open will knock that down to less than 8 hours. These times are for the 6700HQ 9550, I imagine the newer ones may have optimisations. My least favorite component is the 960M. I can usually play games on high (not ultra) with scaling at 1080p, or medium if I really want to hit 60fps. It sounds good but after looking at text and images in 4K all day, looking at a game in 1080p does feel like a step down. The 1050 should be leagues better though. I will get an external graphics enclosure soon after these cryptos crash and burn. A used Vega 56 will hopefully be dirt cheap. I have phased all the 1080p and lower devices out of my life and I am happy with my decision.
