  1. So there's a bit more to my question. If i was doing a custom build i would find the model of my motherboard and download the drivers from that companies website but i just did a system reset on a prebuilt Acer and i was curious if i should download the drivers from their website? Windows updates got everything working correctly but i'm not sure if it's just using basic drivers. Here's the link to the drivers - https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/6393;-;Aspire Should i just leave it as is or install this stuff?
  2. Thank you both! It's a shame but this type of stuff just happens i guess. At least the system still works (Albeit with a slightly lower frame rate) and there are really good upgrade options nowadays ?
  3. So i built a computer for a buddy of mine and something weird happened. While he was playing it just shut off and when he went to turn it on the fans would spin but it would continuously restart and wouldn't POST. After diagnosing it turned out that the 1st and 2nd DIMM slots were no longer working. I tried a single stick in all four DIMM slots one at a time and only the 3rd and 4th slot work now. Whats weird though is i tried installing a different CPU into the system and all DIMM slots work fine. I then put the 4790K into a different PC and it has the same issue with the 1st and 2nd slot not working so it seems to be the memory controller on the 4790K went bad. I thoroughly tested every component individually (RAM with Memtest86+, Prime95 for CPU and RAM, Unigine and 3D Mark in Windows etc). So it definitely is the IMC on the CPU. Fortunately he still has two working DIMM slots but unfortunately it only runs in single channel now. Anyway, I just wanted to hear some thoughts on what may have caused this? Do you think it was the 2400MHz at 1.65V that somehow fried part of the IMC? I know that is sort of pushing the speeds on DDR3 but that is the XMP speed that Corsair validated this RAM to run at and it the memory itself is still fine. Or maybe it was the 4.6GHz OC on the 4790K? The temps were low and i wasn't pushing any more voltage than was absolutely necessary (I stress tested it at it at 1.250V but it was sometimes crash during certain games so i upped the voltage to 1.260V and it never crashed again). These are fairly modest overclocks from my experience so it would surprise me if these caused the problem, especially considering both the 4.6GHz OC and 2400MHz RAM are still completely stable. Maybe it was just bad luck? Anyway i just wanted to hear some thoughts on this. Cheers.
  4. Oh really? This question is mostly hypothetical because i would never upgrade my board before upgrading the CPU. I edited the post to rephrase my question.
  5. So this question is a bit more complicated than the title suggests. I have an MSI X370 motherboard and with a 16GB 3000MHz CL16 RAM kit i'm only able get 2666MHz with a Ryzen 7 1700 without trying to manually tweak the timings etc. Will i be able to achieve higher memory frequencies by changing the board from X370 to X470? I tested a Ryzen 7 2700X on my X370 motherboard and i was able to increase the memory frequency to 2933MHz with the same RAM and motherboard so the IMC on the 2700X must be better. My question basically is if i upgraded to a Ryzen 3700X for example would i be able to increase the memory frequency even further? Or would the motherboard hold it back at any point? I thought one of the main mentions of X370 to X470 was the better memory support but now i'm wondering if it just comes down to the motherboards BIOS and the memory controller on the CPU?
  6. I'll start by saying thanks for your time if you decide to help. So i helped fixed someones computer recently and they live in a campground with where the WIFI is shared from one main signal. Some of their devices pick up a good signal (phones) some are extremely weak (laptop) and others can't connect at all for some reason (PS4). Apparently, they can't get their own dedicated internet where they live so they have to work with what they have. I'm not good with networking etc at all so i was hoping someone here might have a suggestion. The signal itself seems to be okay but it's not strong enough for the small devices. I was thinking maybe hooking up a router with big antenna's inside the trailer to catch the signal and then have the small devices connect to that? If that's possible? I really don't know.
  7. So this is a weird one. I built a PC for a friend and have a 240GB SSD and a 1TB HDD but i decided to remove the HDD and now the SSD will not boot alone for some reason. I get the "Reboot and select proper Boot Device" message when only the SSD is installed but when the HDD is installed as a secondary drive it works fine. I'm 100% sure that Windows is installed on the SSD and i've tried different SATA ports, SATA cables and SATA power cables but this problem seems to persist. Any ideas? I have the strong feeling that if i installed Windows with only the SSD installed it wouldn't be causing this issue when i remove/add other drives.

    Is Paypal safe?

Same. It still boggles my mind how buyers/sellers on HWC and RFD classifieds only use EMT even though it's not even meant to be used for sales and is about as sketchy as it gets.

    Is Paypal safe?

I have a seller who's uncertain about shipping via Paypal and now wants to back out of the deal because their account is new and they're uncertain about Paypal holding their funds for 21 days. Is Paypal safe in your opinion? Especially if you're buying from a reputable buyer that provided links to their trader feedback etc?
  10. It must have been a different Youtuber then. I remember the video was not specifically about hard drives vs SSD's but rather whoever was benchmarking the game kind of just threw it out there that the textures were not loading in properly because of the HDD. I coulda swore it was Linus though hmm...
  11. I remember watching about a year ago a video where Linus/Luke was testing tomb raider (or was it farcry?) and there was stuttering or problems loading in textures because of the hard drive but they had no problems with an SSD. Does anyone remember which video this was? My memory could be failing me i'm not sure if i'm remembering this correctly but help is much appreciated.
  12. I know there's a lot of variation when it comes to how much profit per day you can make with a video card because it depends which card you're using, What currency you're mining and the cost of power but would someone be able to give me a ball park number how much i could make with an R9 390 or GTX 1070 per day for example? A few dollars? The simple reason i'm asking is because i was about to sell a video card and make about $100 profit because of the inflated video card prices but if i could gain that same profit over the course of a month for example by just using the card to mine i think i'd rather do that. Sorry if this is annoying. I greatly appreciate any help.
  13. Which headsets are currently regarded as the best budget headsets? I've heard of the HyperX Cloud Stinger but that's about it. I'm looking to buy a friend a decent headset but need to keep the cost down. Help is much appreciated.
  14. I just sent the seller a message so all we be answered in time i hope. I'm not going to refund the drive or anything. It's my fault for not asking for the CDI screenshot before buying like i normally do and the SSD will be used in a Netflix machine so it won't see much writes at all in the rest of it's life. I'm mostly just curious at this point so i hope the seller answers honestly.
  15. I've only ever bought used SSD's. This is more of an example why to ask for CDI screenshots before buying them. Used hard drives on the other hand are rarely a good idea.
