  1. So... not present in official UEFI firmwares from manufacturers' websites that 99% of users download from. If you're installing UEFI firmware coming from other sources and you get infected, that's on you; the same as with normal software. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the news tells us whether the attacker had physical access to the computers or not, before or after they were sold or deployed. I doubt it's a coincidence that 4 out of 4 of the countries mentioned have authoritarian regimes and/or high corruption.
  2. After a few days thinking about this, I have only 1 more suggestion to try. I presume your .VGM music files have a separate image file for the album cover, compared to MP3 and FLAC files that can have the album cover image embedded. Try going to File > Preferences > Display > Album Art and temporarily removing the text under Front Cover.
  3. Ah, I think I understand a bit better. I organise my music in a playlist view, because I prefer the way it's organised compared to the standard 'library' view. Here's a screenshot of my foobar2000 layout: Do albums appear correctly, with only one of each showing, when added to a playlist? If they appear correctly in playlists I'm not suggesting you change to this view permanently; it's only to figure out where exactly the problem is visible.
  4. The first thing I would try is seeing if an MP3 or FLAC album appears correctly. You can also post a screenshot of the problem so we can see it for ourselves.
  5. Hi all, My Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire keyboard is activating its Left Alt key repeatedly by itself. By coincidence, Linus Tech Tips uploaded this video less than a month ago. In the video, Linus has a brand new Cherry MX Black switch, but doesn't state where he was able to buy it from. I need a Cherry MX Speed RGB switch to fix the Left Alt key and I've found them on AliExpress. https://es.aliexpress.com/item/1005002834461592.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.24e72e0eHzdiyH The description mentions they have 3 pins, although in the pictures I can only see 2. I presume the 3rd pin must be for the RGB LED to work. My questions are: Is there something else I should check before buying a new Cherry MX Speed RGB switch and trying to desolder the old one and replace it with the new one? Is the 3rd pin for these switches in a place I can't see, or should I be looking elsewhere to buy the switch to be sure it's correct? Thanks for your time!
  6. I see. I'm slightly surprised because I thought Windows 11 would be a significant upgrade to justify the new edition. Thanks for the response; I appreciate it.
  7. Hi everyone, In Windows 10's File Explorer, the "Extra large icons" for thumbnails are still too small, and I've been trying to find out if Windows 11 has larger thumbnails than that. (If so, it would accelerate my move to Windows 11.) This has been a problem for me for years, and was a problem in the company I used to work for too. Apparently in Windows 10, "Extra large" thumbnail icons in File Explorer are limited to 256x256 pixels. People have been complaining for years about this problem, so I'm hoping someone here can tell me if this problem is fixed in Windows 11. I promise I spent quite a while looking for an answer before asking here, but I couldn't find one. Thank you!
  8. Thank you very much for this answer. I now understand much more clearly, and it will allow me to decide which computers I should install Windows 11 on, especially if those computers belong to other people.
  9. Thank you, but unfortunately it only ever transferred the license if I did an upgrade first. After that I could do a clean installation; if I did a clean installation from the beginning, the license never transferred.
  10. I have done 100's of upgrades from Windows 7 to Windows 10. If you do a clean installation it doesn't work; it has to be an upgrade.
  11. I don't understand why the advice for people who have unsupported CPUs is to do a clean installation of Windows 11. How on earth is the Windows 10 digital license going to be transferred if you do that??? Those people will end up with Windows 11, but inactivated.
  12. Thanks for your input. I have to tell you that I have experienced first hand computers with modern power supplies that shut off instantly when a UPS without pure sine wave output switches to battery power. It is true that many power supplies are more efficient at the higher voltage. I don't know the history of why some regions of the world use lower voltage.
  13. Yes, the UPS will need to have a pure sine wave output on battery, because the computer power supplies use active power factor correction. At the moment, the total power usage of the devices I'd want connected to a UPS is 850W, but that could rise to 1,100W in the near future.
  14. Multiple low powered servers and PCs. This will keep changing. Long enough to shut down each device properly. A network connection would be helpful, but not essential.
  15. Alright, thank you. I'd hoped they'd have the information easily accessible on their website.
  16. Thanks, but that's 120V. I need 240V since that's the voltage used in Europe.
  17. Hi all, I've been needing a UPS for a while and saw the Eaton 9PX Lithium-ion UPS sponsor spot on this video. It seems ideal, and they also mention global options, which is perfect because I need a UPS with EU plugs. I went to Eaton.com/LTT, read the brochure and it seems even more ideal. So, now what? There's no shop. No prices. No shipping options. No information about EU plugs. Please could I have some help finding the correct version for my region and how to purchase it? If it's not possible, then some suggestions from other brands would be helpful too. (I did find this one from CyberPower on Amazon a few months ago, although it's a very old model.) https://www.cyberpower.com/eu/en/product/sku/cp1500epfclcd Thanks!
  18. Just to confirm, did you boot from the USB drive with the Windows 11 ISO on it? The reason I'm asking is because I have previously upgraded hundreds of computers from Windows 7 to Windows 10, however I found that the only way I could get the licence to transfer was to run the windows media creation tool in Windows when it was booted. Only after the digital licence was transferred would I then do a clean installation of Windows 10.
  19. Were you able to carry over your Windows 10 digital licence by upgrading like this?
  20. I've been looking at the Dell laptops suggested, and a problem I have encountered is that they are being sold with Spanish keyboards, since I live in Spain, but the laptop needs an English or French keyboard since those are the languages my grandmother speaks. It's for this reason I was first looking on the XMG website because they allow you to choose the keyboard. If anyone knows of similar websites, please let me know.
  21. That's an interesting solution that I will hold onto. She does need a new device with a larger screen than her current tablet, which is why a laptop would be ideal because it can be placed on any table.
  22. I should mention that she does need a new device since her current tablet is getting old with shorter battery life, but thanks for the input.
  23. She has been using a Xiaomi MiPad 4 tablet for years, which she enjoys using, but finds it tiring to hold onto for long periods when reading news or watching videos; a laptop sitting on a table will point the screen towards her with no effort on her part. Also, a laptop would allow the webcam to be pointing at her face without her holding it there for the times we speak on Skype, which happens multiple times per week.
  24. Thanks for your reply. I didn't mention a budget simply because I struggled to find even a single laptop that had a touchscreen, a SIM slot and a backlit keyboard, so I wanted to see any and all options. You are correct about her ability to use her phone as a mobile data hotspot; she has a basic non-smartphone, so I don't think it's possible, and I'd also like it to be automatic so she doesn't have to think about it. I'm sure there's nothing worse for her than going into hospital, feeling ill, and also having to setup a hotspot when she doesn't remember how to do it. You're right that high end laptops will be unnecessary, since she won't need the power of a dedicated Nvidia or AMD GPU. Long battery life will help her the most.
  25. Hmm, I'm not sure about that. My dad often does trips for work as a nuclear inspector, and his work laptops have SIM slots that support 5G and are recent models. He says they are more reliable than the old system of using hotspots.
