For me, it was for the new features (apps that support and make actual use of the touch-bar make it less gimmicky and actually surprisingly useful. Better dedicated graphics support for light gaming, wicked fast SSD, better battery life (although not everyone is experiencing this) the nicer keyboard, Touch ID which is really useful. And an overall more badass Mac experience. I have friends that have last years model and thy are very envious of mine.

Keep in mind that I know the new MacBook Pro is overpriced (I did not pay out of pocket for mine) and that it is only for someone who enjoys the Mac experience/needs it for app development (I am both of those things) That isn't to say that I don't use windows on here in parallels (as well as Ubuntu) but it is a solid computer for development. Maybe overkill but with the significant decrease in Xcode compile times, Im happy.

From someone who owns the new 15", I don't see the practicality for anything less than the quad-core 15"

I didn't read KWelz's post until after posting but we have similar ideas and I hope that it is helpful

Is it just me, or does anyone want to see a LTT forums app? It would make sense so you could see notifications and stuff? Leave a thumbs up if you agree. Or comment if you have thoughts,

    Wow guys,
so many replies so fast. Thank you so much for all your advice. Sounds like my gut was right in asking for advice before splurging.

It is as legit as the frames he wears with no lenses in them.

MacX DVD is legal. Or, you can use Handbrake on OS X with libdvdcss. There are plenty of good utilities out there. iSkySoft has one too, but I've never used it. I prefer MacX DVD because they gave it away for free two months ago. Can create any type of media from any DVD.
    As for blu-rays, you'd have to have a read/writer
