  1. pay with paypal as well. you should be set through multiple buyer protection programs if things go south
  2. It's been a while since I've come back to the forums, but I recently picked up a used Dell XPS 15 9550 parts laptop for DIRT cheap. By dirt cheap i mean $35 cheap. However, It's currently missing a Hard Drive/SSD, RAM, Battery, Power Adapter, and screws for the back cover. I just borrowed my friend's AC adapter and got the laptop to post and boot. It seems that everything is working fine on the laptop, so now I'm at a dilemma as to how to restore/rebuild it. The laptop currently has the i7 6700HQ CPU, GTX 960m graphics, and the 1080p matte display. I plan on using this computer strictly for school and professional work. Gaming would be little to basically none. My workload would consist of using Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop, and Lightroom. I will also be using VMware to run a macOS and Linux virtual machine, along with the basic tasks such as MS Office, web browsing, etc. So here's my question. What would be the best upgrade course that I can do to my "new" laptop given the workload? 1. Would I be better off with 16GB of ram or 32GB? 2. Should I opt to get an NVMe M.2 SSD, or would I be fine with a SATA M.2 SSD? How big should the SSD be? 3. Would the 97 WHr batteries from the newer XPS 15s work in the 9550? Or would I be better off using the 84 WHr 3rd party replacement batteries you find on eBay or Amazon?
  3. It does, but I only have a single 55 year old paper speaker in the middle of the dash in it and the radio is AM only.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion! I did end up getting the Flip 4 and man is that thing loud! the sound is really clear and crisp too! A bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion, I don't want to hack up an original working radio in my car so this was the best option in the end.
  5. thanks for the suggestion, ill check it out!
  6. Does anyone have any suggestions on what portable bluetooth speaker that is loud enough to be used to play music in a car? I have a 1965 Ford Mustang that still has the original radio that i dont want to replace, but I want to be able to play and listen to my music while driving it. Preferably something small enough to fit in a cupholder, but be loud enough so i can hear the music over the wind and engine noise while driving. Thanks
  7. Recently i realized that its really difficult to go through college without owning a personal laptop to be able to have to take notes in class or do work anywhere on the go. I recently purchased a brand new 2018 MacBook Pro 13in with touch bar for school and im still within the 2 week return window. Lately ive been having second thoughts about keeping the computer because for what i use it for, (which is taking notes in class, typing up essays for school, watching youtube, and watching netflix or just basic web browsing, i feel that i can't justify the price of the computer for the tasks i use it for. The thing is, I really like MacOS and how its pretty well optimized. I already have a custom built desktop at home so I just want a laptop to do basic task. My question is, would it be a good idea to buy a used mid 2012 macbook pro 13in with the 3rd gen i5, replace the 500GB hard drive with a SSD, then upgrade the ram to 8GB or more. In my area, I see that second hand 13in MBPs range from $200-300. I just need the laptop to at least last me through college (between 4-5 years) and if it clunks out after that then i'll cross that bridge when i get there. The main thing i worry about is would the processor being a 3rd gen i5 become slow, obsolete, and unusable before i can get through college. What are your opinions on this?
  8. Get a used Volvo. Those things are more common where you live, so parts are easier to find and most likely cheaper too. Older Swedish made Volvo are bricks. Basically indestructible. Granted they dont look sporty, but you'll never be left stranded on the side of the road with that thing.
  9. i just bought it today for $280, is that a good deal? or just average?
  10. This was on the posting's description. Full disclosure: this card was used for ethereum mining at 75% power target (~110W, ~65C).
  11. Recently I came across a listing on craigslist for a used EVGA GTX 1070 that im thinking about buying. Its listed for $300 obo but the thing thats got me on the fence about it is the owner says that its been used to mine etheirum for 7 months. Im wondering if its a good idea to buy a used ex mining card to use in my PC for gaming? or am i better off steering clear of mining cards and buying either a new card or holding off on upgrading the existing GTX 960 in my PC. Any suggestions are welcome.
  12. for my pc i have double side sticky tape holding my SSD down to the floor of the case. It works fine and I never ran into any problems doing that
  13. Hey Michelle, I already sold the system a long time ago without trying this. It just never came across to me. Hopefully this solution will work for someone else that has this problem down the road in the future. What I remember worked for me was to switch the power off on the PSU, wait about 30 seconds, then flip it back on again and it would work without any issues
  14. How old are the 1TB drives in your setup? typically, from my experience. I noticed that the older drives tend to be louder than newer hard drives. Also the older hard drives of the same capacity tend to be heavier than the newer drives as well. But what the others said is true as well. Larger capacity hard drives tend to have slower RPMs so it would logically make less noise than a higher RPM hard drive
  15. i mean VX, this is the link to it https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/sop/d/computer-power-supply-550w/6440951468.html
  16. Hi, so I'm stuck on deciding which PSU is a better choice to get right now, I'm looking to build a used budget sub $200 sandy bridge gaming computer and i need a power supply to power it. I searched craigslist in my local area for second hand power supplies and I came with two results. A $20 Antec BP550 PSU, and a $15 Corsair VX550 PSU. Im stuck on deciding which PSU would be better to get, i know that both antec and corsair make solid PSUs, but which one would be better to get. Getting a new power supply isn't an option because of the budget constraints. What do you guys think? Which PSU is better? Thanks
  17. ryzen 5 1600 is a pretty solid choice but if you can fit a 1700 into the build, it would be really cool. but the 1600 is still a very solid choice.
  18. it could mean that your GPU has issues. Try putting your GPU into his PC to confirm.
  19. have you tried swapping the video card for another one? or tried different ram, CPU?
  20. Yeah I meant to ask what the name of the cipher was. I managed to figure it out though in the end!
