Is the 780 still worth it over the 290(x)? (POLL)
Prophet of Entropy replied to tryphaa's topic in Graphics Cards
780, don't play battlefield or crypto mine, so no reason to get a hotter more power hungry card. -
CPU Fan Error - New Swiftech H320
Prophet of Entropy replied to DanTheMuffinMan's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
yea try without the splitter, pretty sure that's only included to cover people with crappy MBs. use the cpu fan header for the pump and a chassis header for the rad fans. -
CPU Fan Error - New Swiftech H320
Prophet of Entropy replied to DanTheMuffinMan's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
either the contacts aren't making connection with the MB leads or the pump isn't getting enough power to spin (try setting the cpu fan to max speed), or the pump is DOA. whats plugged into assistant fan 1 that reading 5k rpm? -

you could plug the pwm and tach cable into your cpu header and the +/- leads into your power supply. plug your pump into your MB what RPM is showing at in fan expert? -

yes you will need to reapply thermal interface material. -
5-10% difference in performance between the tops will give you exactly, ZERO cooling benefit.

difference between the 2 cards?
Prophet of Entropy replied to werch's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
you can get universal GPU blocks that only cool the processor, and you can get some stick on heatsinks or glue some on with thermal adhesieve to cool the vrm and vram modules. add a fan that's blowing on the heatsinks and you have no problem with cooling them. its the old school way of watercooling video cards. -
Watercooling Tube Issues
Prophet of Entropy replied to ragedev's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
40-70W is a lot for idle it should be under 20. so you might have changed something when you over clocked it that's keeping it from powering down at idle, or something is loading your cpu. -

is your pump still good?(has it started making noise?) what is your CPU's power draw at idle? did it ever idle cool? -
Easy ways to improve temps?
Prophet of Entropy replied to AUSSIE MUFFIN's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
you could try liquidmetal pro TIM, that might get you 3-5C better. my 2600k at 1.47v @5.1Ghz is around 70-75C with a 19C ambient and 33C coolant @2.9 LPM. But I don't like having the vcore that high, so run it at 1.35 @ 4.8Ghz at 45-60C as my coolant heats up under gpu and cpu load. ive got a 2600k with a koolance 380i block on it, 2 780s with koolance vid-nxttn blocks, a RX-360 and RX-480 rads. (i'm using artic mx-2 TIM on my cpu) im very glad I switched out my 4770k to my HTPC and put the 2600k in my gaming rig, not only am I gonna use less power but my HTPC is essentially silent now that it doesn't have a gtx 590 as its only video out option.- 23 replies

Anti Corrosive? Biocide?
Prophet of Entropy replied to Warbeast's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
you don't need an anti corrosive but, a glycol based additive can help with pump lubrication (pump life) and ethylene glycol coolants are both anti corrosive and antimicrobial since they are toxic. you can use both, or just one. -
GPU Watercooling Advice
Prophet of Entropy replied to colingohl's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
you plan on having 3 AIOs in your case, its gonna look messy. but who cares how it looks. the only reason to spend that extra money on cooling is for silence, if its performance your after, go dual 780s on air for slightly more $$$ and much better performance.- 9 replies

Rigid tubing for water cooling build
Prophet of Entropy replied to Erfurt's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
could always use copper tube and paint it black and use black coolant in your reservoir. though if I was gonna go copper I'd polish it and clear coat it. but petg plastic is pretty much what carbonated beverage bottles are made of, and some roofing materials, and some currencies and sails and other things I cant think of. its great plastic, doesn't stain, very durable. its hygroscopic so it will absorb water like some other tubing. -
parallel flow depends on equal restriction in the blocks and an air pocket adds restriction from surface tension. so yea, air pocket. you probably could have just as easily gone with serial flow since EK blocks are so low restriction, even with it being an expanded AIO.

that looks kike cheap hardware store pvc tubing. replace all of it. -
Copper tubing fittings
Prophet of Entropy replied to sushisky's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
if your worried about leaks, use the koolance copper tube fittings. they are uglier but they are the same style of compression fittings used in hydraulic systems that go to into the thousands of PSI working pressure. -
D5's have a much lower RMA rate then DDCs not because they are bad, but they do have more points of failure. a DDC can have coolant leak directly into pump circuitry, and with out proper cooling it can over heat and burn out, EK is making a heasink cover for DDCs not sure if its in stores yet. the up side to them is they are small, you can position then in any direction (if I recall correctly) and they produce higher pressures then D5s.

Water cooling - MSI Z87-GD65
Prophet of Entropy replied to muzzammil13's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
that case is not designed to easily water cool in it. if your handy with a zip-cutter and enjoy a little metal work you could mod it. if not, buy a case suited to it, like one of Fractals ARC series or Corsairs Obsidian series or something like them. if all your going for an AIO and not a full custom loop, stick with your case and get a Water 2.0 Pro, or just a big air heatsink. -
MCP 655 with Acrylic Tube
Prophet of Entropy replied to drkk's topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
your pump top is designed to use soft tube, either buy a new pump top with threaded holes or frankenstine a piece of soft tube with fittings to connect your hardline. like PUMP>hose>compression fitting> female to female coupler>hardline fitting. since your new and probably don't have any spare parts, it would be simpler and cost about the same to just get a pump top with threads, plus it would look better and custom tops provide slightly better performance. -
you can just use it, but if your pump dies cause your didn't bother to see if there's any crap in your rad left over from manufacturing don't cry to us. they leak test them after assembly, they don't clean them. least not perfectly.
