kupori got a reaction from 338Lapua in Top part of monitor screen flickering (1660 Super)
Update: I found a fix to the issue.

I first reformatted my PC to check if it was software related, the issue persisted after the reformat.
I did some thinking about why the issue was happening only during light load (Web browsing/Documents/Videos) and not during Heavier loads (Gaming).
The artifacts/flickering only appeared when the core clock speeds were low (idle) and did not occur when it was higher (Gaming).
I did some research on clock speeds and came across this reddit post on gpu power management.
Changed the setting to Maximum Performance so clock speeds and voltage are constantly higher. No more artifacts!
Getting higher idle temperatures as expected (48c) but issue is fixed (for now)

TLDR: Set Nvidia power management settings to Maximum Performance fixed the artifact issue during idle.

I recently just built a new rig - ryzen 3600, zotac gtx 1660S, gskill flare cli16 3200mhz etc...
Currently plugged into 2 displays (Dp - 144hz main, HDMI - 60hz secondary)
I've realized that the top part of my main monitor flickers once every 5-10 minutes when I'm doing light stuff (Chrome/Office/Discord/Spotify etc..). The secondary monitor does flicker in the same area but alot less frequent, once every hour)
The strange thing is that the flickering disappears when I'm gaming (csgo, valorant, fall guys).
I've been using my monitors and the cables for pretty long and they didn't have any issues with my previous PC with the same screen setup. (i7-3770 + gtx 1080)

I've reinstalled my gpu drivers and updated bios, no change.

for vms, get as many threads you can get so you can assign each threads as a virtual cpu.
bigger memory means you can allocate more memory to the vms. check the minimum requirements for each os, for linux around 2gb is fine.
consumer vm applications doesn't support hardware gpu, so it will not help.

Assuming you're talking about virtual box, that program uses it's own virtual GPU, so a graphics card won't make a difference. 16gb is handy if you're running a VM or 2 all the time (and like using chrome). 8 should be fine if you're only running them when needed. More threads will improve VM performance. If possible try run your VM's on either a D: partition or external drive, The virtual disks used can hog storage (assuming you're assigning 20-50gb per Windows VM, linux is ligher on storage needs)

I've used skype as my voice comm for over 4 years with my friends to play mmorpgs, csgo and dota. Decided it was too much of a hassle to keep on having to add friends into calls constantly. Went on a hunt for better voice comm.

Teamspeak - pretty complicated to set up a free server with 10 slot limit iirc, voice quality is ok i guess.

Gamevox - much easier to use than ts but voice quality was a lil but jarring.

Then i came across discord. Holy fuck this is the best shit I've ever used. Told my friends to try it out, all of them immediately moved over to it on the same day.

    1. Can be used on browser, program version also available. (I have this retarded friend who didnt want to use other voice comms cuz he was too lazy to download, ikr wtf)

    2. As I mentioned that it works on browsers as well, you can create a 24hr temporary link for (friends with no acc, players ur stacking with etc) to join.

    3. Setting up a server is simple as click on a button which says [create server], also its free. you can create as many servers as you want. The server is always up, even if the host shuts down his com.

    4. No limit to the number of participants in each server. You can also create as many subchannels as you want. I've had over 10 friends in my server, works smoothly with no issues.

    4. Voice quality is awesome. If you have that one friend who's mic is always loud for no god damn reason, you individually lower the volume of each participant.

    5. Very simple and effective design, features and options, also completely free.

    6. Text to Speech feature in chat which is fucking fun to use.

I wasn't asked by discord or anyone related to discord to write this post. I just feel that this voice comm is just that awesome that everyone should give it a try.

Not being mean but its not really worth making a serious team if you are only going to have gold nova players in it and play matchmaking.
