    You could use the Android emulator that comes with Android studio, it'll let you easily install any apk and also you can also use any beta version of Android (if that's your thing)

    Edit:

    The emulator does have issues running any games, i don't remember what the reason was.

    thank you. android studio here i come!!!!

  2. Currently I have a pretty beefy laptop that comes with 8 core procesor + 32GB of ram.

    I would like to run android on my PC so that I can install some apps (not games) that I daily use on my device.

    Which android emulator do you gus use? and does it support install from APK ??

    Also I am on a windows 10 machine right now..

    I googled "best android emulator for windows 10"  but those results all pointed to gaming orientied emulator. Does it matter??

    Thanks in advance.

    Typically File Explorer only shows the folder size by hovering over the folder name. But sometime this is not reliable/accurate if windows has not opened/scanned the folder before

    I typically use WinDirStat for visualizing folder sizes. FileTree is  recommended for explorer replacement.

    thank you my friend! sorry for the late reply.

  4. When opening folders that contain a lot of sub folders, windows file explorer cannot display those subfolders' sizes.

    Is there any file replacement that can do that ???

    Below is one of my external HDD , at the size column it cannot calculate each sub folders' sizes....

  5. I am following a guide on youtube which let you install openwrt on R2S, which can help me bypass the GFW.

    In the video the dude said  I need to change my laptop's ipv4 address to match openwrt's ip address.

    So, in my case I need to change my ip address to a static one which is 192.168.2.X but if I changed it, I cannot connect to internet.

    Which part did I do wrong ?

    This is my current settings : (which works fine)

    This is his setting

    If I do what he said on my machine you can see cant save IP settings. How is that??

    What about I change it from here?? what would my settings be? Also what should be the new DNS address???

    It is copaganda. Which is propaganda but for cops.

    Propaganda does not mean its bad.

    You are right, it's a popular formula ever since Dragnet. Just with a pseudo-scientific edge which then was copied by other shows such as Bones. Does not change what that formula is. Doesnt mean you cant enjoy it.

    the other day i was browsing youtube there is a channel explicitly talking about copaganda and all the shows that are evolving around it.

    pretty interesting actually.

    As a Malaysian who watched it as a kid, uh...what propaganda??

    It did fool me into thinking that forensic work can be done in a couple of days tops though. Won't get fooled again.

    real work places wont be like in the movies. there will be a lot of pushing around and dumping responsibilities on others, stuff like these happens everyday. not like in the movies where “ we are a family “ all the time.

    True.

    Uh, it's fictional television.

    CSI was/is ultra popular in North America.

    Not everything is propaganda, that show had a very popular formula that got massive ratings, why would they bother to change it?

    Also, main characters did die Nd everything was not rosy at times.

    I see... Thanks!

  9. CSI was a really popular show in Asia back in the day. Of course we did not pay for any of the episodes and just download some torrents online.

    But I have one question though....because I am not from United States... do you guys think that there are some kind of "propoganda" or forced theme that is built into the show ???

    Because for me it was like "yo,we are a family and we care about the city we are living in we'll do whatever it takes to solve these cases and everyone loves each other forever and ever" after a while, these kind of stuff kind of worn off on you and it starts to feel corny... like they have to force a happy endiing. Same with NCIS.

    Idk,,, that's how I felt when watching those shows...

  10. I just got myself a second hand MacBook Pro 2015 13inch.

    I am planning to do a full system wipe just to make it mine.

    Currently I am using Big Sur on this machine.

    When I entered recovery mode, disk utility does not recognize macbook's internal disk, which is really strange.

    I've never encountered this issue before.

    Also in recovery mode under system restore, the os it was trying to install was Mavericks. So, I don't know whether is it supposed to be like this.

    Here are some screenshots: IMG_1162.HEICIMG_1163.HEIC1085861077_ScreenShot2023-04-22at6_14_26PM.thumb.png.75274a3237be54972c19b05a32e25058.png

  11. I am using Ubuntu right now and I wannn set up all of my emails in thunderbird.

    However I could not find the most accurate Incoming and Outgoing Servers for outlook. I tried copy the settings inside my outlook.com account but thunderbird tells me that "Incoming server already exists"

    Which one did I put wrongly?

    You're running Mint 21 (Previous versions did too)? It will work fine with secure boot enabled. There really wasn't a reason to disable it. The machine I'm typing this on has Mint 21 (my primary OS) and Windows 11 (for gaming).

    You create a key, reboot, enroll that key (type in the password you created), done deal.

    the reason I disabled it is because when I try to key in the key, my laptop's keyboard does not respond, nor does the mouse. So I just disabled it all together.

    Also, i switched from mint to xubuntu, I need to use snapd as a service. I'm still learning.

    Also also, having a 2560x1600 monitor is kind of a pain point for using linux, it does not let me scale my resolution/UI. Uhhhh.

  13. I am trying to set up imwheel on my machine as a service, inside archwiki, it said create a system service using systemd.

    ~/.config/systemd/user/imwheel.service

    But inside my config folder does not have a systemd folder. I used this to check its version and here is the output.

    systemctl --version

    systemd 249 (249.11-0ubuntu3.6)
    +PAM +AUDIT +SELINUX +APPARMOR +IMA +SMACK +SECCOMP +GCRYPT +GNUTLS +OPENSSL +ACL +BLKID +CURL +ELFUTILS +FIDO2 +IDN2 -IDN +IPTC +KMOD +LIBCRYPTSETUP +LIBFDISK +PCRE2 -PWQUALITY -P11KIT -QRENCODE +BZIP2 +LZ4 +XZ +ZLIB +ZSTD -XKBCOMMON +UTMP +SYSVINIT default-hierarchy=unified

    so it means that my system does come with systemd right?

    So my question is, is it okay for me to just create a systemd folder and add some services to it????

    It is primarily supposed to protect you against boot level malware. It does not protect you against theft or people trying to guess your password. It's still possibly to boot from USB, provided the USB stick contains a boot loader that is properly signed.

    For example when Microsoft creates a boot loader for Windows, they sign it with their cryptographic key. When your start up your PC, your UEFI BIOS checks whether the boot loader is signed and whether the company who created the signature is trusted. If that's not the case, then it'll refuse to boot. So if e.g. a virus modifies the boot loader, it'll no longer match the signature, the UEFI will detect that it's been tampered with and refuse to boot. That's all there is to it, really.

    If I stole your computer, I could simply place your disks into my own computer, boot up my own OS and read everything on your disks. Secure boot would not protect against that in any way. You'd need full disk encryption to protect against that.

    I see. Thanks. In order to duo boot linux I would just disable it for now...

  15. I am currently using a laptop that has a R95900HX processor + a rtx 3080.

    Just a couple of hours ago, I added one more NVME drive and installed mint 21 on it.

    At 1st I had these screen flickering everytime I boot up the machine, at the log in manager I would have to log in at least 3 times just to see the desktop environment, also system will jump back to login state randomly and especially after I open file manager...

    Then when I installed the latest Nvidia Driver, version 520-open, it says because of secure boot I had to Enroll MOK then key in some password i just set. (check the pic below)

    IMG_20221113_183204.thumb.jpg.28b8a71be31a5f45e6bf08df0be5a425.jpg

    But after reboot inside the menu my keyboard does not work at all, so I could not key in anything.

    So I just straight up hard reboot and went into bios disabled secure boot.

    Then things seemed fine now.

    Is it okay to leave it as it is???

    i'm gonna look past all that is software specific because i dont know what the sotfware is or what it does..

    but your error message when starting the service, is because the service doesnt exist.

    'doesnt exist' here means the service file isnt where it needs to be, it has a typo in the name, or you made a typo in the command.

    I'll try to look into it when I have time. Thanks for the info .

  17. I am following this guide to set up a shadowsocks server to bypass the GFW.

    https://www.oilandfish.com/posts/shadowsocks-libev.html

    Steps that I've done:

    1. install snap core
    2. install shadowsocks-libev using snap
    3. edited this file: ` vi /var/snap/shadowsocks-libev/common/etc/shadowsocks-libev/config.json`
      1. {
        "server": (Question: is this the server address of my ss account? Or is it 0.0.0.0? )
        "server_port":(server port that my ss account comes with)
        "local_port":1080 (I think my ss account is using 1080 localport),
        "mode":"tcp_and_udp"(I'm not sure so I just put both LOL),
        "password":"some password"(again,this is provided by the VPN provider),
        "timeout":300 (300 milliseconds?),
        "method":"chacha20-ietf-poly1305" (provided)
        }
    4. then I tried to use this command to start the service:  `systemctl start snap.shadowsocks-libev.ss-server-daemon`
      1. but I got this error : Failed to start snap.shadowsocks-libev.ss-server-daemon.service: Unit snap.shadowsocks-libev.ss-server-daemon.service not found.

    so, what should I do now? Also Under /etc/systemd/system there is a file that's called: snap-shadowsocks\x2dlibev-508.mount

    and inside that file it contains these commands:

    [Unit]
    Description=Mount unit for shadowsocks-libev, revision 508
    Before=snapd.service
    After=zfs-mount.service

    [Mount]
    What=/var/lib/snapd/snaps/shadowsocks-libev_508.snap
    Where=/snap/shadowsocks-libev/508
    Type=squashfs
    Options=nodev,ro,x-gdu.hide,x-gvfs-hide
    LazyUnmount=yes

    [Install]
    WantedBy=default.target multi-user.target

    does it have anything to do with my settings? Do I have to change it or ???

  18. lol

    i'm getting a R9000K in mainland china with R95900HX + RTX 3080 (165W 16GB VRAM) + 32GB of DDR4 3200Hz RAM + 1TB of NVME SSD. screen resolution is 2560x1600 165Hz 500 nit 10bit gsync/freesync premium display.

    pretty happy with the purchase, waiting for it to ship to me.

    just letting you guys know.

    currently I am using a 4 core machine which sometimes struggles to create/mod heavy excel files. LOL
