  1. Thanks for the info. If it was me, I would try the board again. You have to return it anyway. I am a proud supporter of Gigabyte, but every company messes up at some point. If the next board doesn't work, return it and buy from another company. I actually made a mistake when I said I had a Gigabyte motherboard. I have the Asus one in my signature. I was thinking of a pc that I built for a good friend of mine.
  2. A 1070 is really great for 1080p gaming. I can max out all of my games at at least 2560x1080 75Hertz. If you enjoy slightly older games, your experience will be amazing, and with NVIDIA cards you can DSR the game to a higher resolution, which is something most people don't talk about. I would suggest trying to go for a g-sync display, and screen tearing is atrocious at high frame rates.
  3. What is your issue with your current board? I have the Gigabyte Z170N mini itx version and it has given me no issues, other than its mediocre overclocking abilities.
  4. The difference between the gtx 1050 and 1050ti is marginal in almost all tasks. The 1050 has a higher clock and is cheaper, so I would go for that.
  5. As of right now, NVIDIA is dominating the market. The RX 460 is no better than the gtx 1050. The RX 480 is no better than the gtx 1060. They don't even have any competition for the gtx 1070, 1080, and TitanXP yet. Their only interesting card is the RX 470, and even that is only a few dollars cheaper than the RX 480, so you might as well just buy the 480. However, I am hopeful that the latest AMD flagship releasing this year will at least be able to complete with the gtx 1070.
  6. Consoles are not bad. The biggest difference I can see is the framerate not the resolution. I overclocked my ultrawide monitor to 75Hertz, and it is very smooth. I can notice no stutter, unlike a console. A good friend of mine games only on a PS4, except when he visits to play Black Ops 3 with me. He has mentioned that the graphics and framerate is far superior than his PS4, and I can back this up as he brings his console for GTA5, as I am not willing to spend the $60 to get it on PC. I also attempted to play Black Ops 3 at a locked framerate of 30fps, and I nearly threw up. However, the worst thing about a console is the very low field of view, or FOV. Nonetheless, I am buying a PS4 this week so I can do a bit of gaming with my console friends. In the end, we are all gamers. I love to make fun of my console friends, and I love to be considered a member of the PC master race. However, members of both sides get way too much hate. Instead of hating each other, we should try to work together and hopefully someday we can all play together.
  7. I bought the Sennheiser HD 558 and a Vmoda boom pro for $110. Better than any traditional "headset" in my opinion. You need a 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male adapter though.
  8. The 25 inch would give you a lot higher pixel density, but if you just want a large monitor, go for it.
  9. That is unfortunate. In the future, if you are really into overclocking, I would pick up a card with external power connections. From my understanding maxwell based GPUs give better overclocked performance than their Pascal counterparts, even though maxwell speeds are significantly lower than Pascal.
  10. Usually cars with an external power connector can be OC'ed more. If your card does have a 6 pin, I recommend using it. If it does not have any external power, you have probably reached the limit. Overclocking does not usually yield 10-15 fps anyway.
  11. Yes, it really is a lovely monitor. I just bought a second one actually, I shall have to update my signature soon. I would not think that the difference between a 1060 and a 1070 in adobe would be a large one. Linus made a video awhile back about photo and video editing with GPUs and basically rendering was similar across the board as long as you weren't using integrated graphics. You should be good if you decide to go that route. As far as I know you cannot do SLI with many or all 1060s, so keep that in mind if you were thinking of that upgrade path.
  12. Not screwing in table legs is probably one of the most foolish things you could do with an expensive setup like that. I hope you have learned your lesson. If I was in this situation, I would make due with an old monitor before I sold my 1070. However, as your job is a programmer, I can see how having a nice monitor would be a big deal, whereas having a nice graphics card is less important. If you literally cannot do your job with the old monitor, you should definitely get a new monitor. It would be a pain to sell your graphics card though and it would take time to find a buyer.
  13. Not that Tech City is a reliable source for every hypothesis or theory, but he made a video explaining why he thought it would come with the non X memory, and it made sense to me. It would be an upgrade from the 1080 because of the extra vram, but having the non X memory would make the TitanXP make more sense from a consumer prospective. Non of us really know at this point.
  14. Only time will tell if these specifications are true. I was under the assumption that it was coming with 12 GB of regular GDDR5.
