  1. Nick, why u do dis to me??? Can I take it that the video is on #Floatplane already?
  2. Uhhh..... Am I the only one noticing that that's an iMac Pro???? Was the computer fixed already and we're just waiting for the video?
  3. To add fuel to Linus's reviewer fire, allow for me to comment from the musician and audio engineer prospective. The difference in headphones as far as the low end and high end goes is understandable. Linus mentioned that the HEM 4s bring thing forward. This is absolutely great for a on stage in ear monitor where you would have volume control over your individual in ear mix (the AVIOM system comes to mind). The clearer low end will suit the HEM 8s will suit your bass player more. From the mixing engineer standpoint, we do not use in ear monitors :P. Full blown headphones all the way (My daily driver is the Sony MDR-7506)
  4. Here is the video for proof, plus Linus got a call out by the maker. Please merge or remove if this is a duplicate.
  5. Hey all, I am looking at building a rendering and FTP server for my business. I have been looking at rack mount servers frames. Here is that template from the pinned post. 1. Budget & Location Looking at 3.5k for a budget within a server rack enclosure. Eventually, I hope to move it to a dedicated server room. 2. Aim Primary use will be rendering. I will be throwing multiple applications against it, so I expect a slightly more well rounded machine (considering most of it will be processor based rendering). My current workflow includes Apple computers. I hope to create a good ecosystem for my workflow to include a dedicated processing machine while I work on things like Blender and Final Cut Pro X. 3. Monitors This is a server rendering node so no monitors needed. 4. Peripherals I have no clue at this point at what would be better to run on this machine. I would like to possibly run Linux because of the resource management, however the problem is application support at this point. Windows would be another option. 5. Why are you upgrading? I want a dedicated machine to do renders and not tie up my main machine. This will allow for me to handle more clients at one time.
  6. As for the "Off The Shelf" offering I have, here is the link to the company. http://www.thinkmate.com/systems/servers/gpx I know for rendering there is sometimes no such thing as overkill, especially if I save time and money for my clients in the process. Also, I am mainly Apple hardware for most of the things I do, however for some projects, I want to leverage a full server (Blender and Maya) to my advantage.
  7. Hey all, Excuse this if this is in the wrong forum. I just created my account here. Anyways, I am looking into buying a Rack-mounted server to do some rendering on. The GPU used in these off the shelf servers are the NIVIDIA Tesla K70. From what I was reading, this is more of a scientific GPU and for the value of the server, I think it is a good option for the future to have this GPU in a rack? Is the performance comparable or better than the NIVIDIA Quattro, or should I look into a different card all together? If I was going for a home build, it will still be in a rack mount case (More like Linus's 36 core monster). Thanks
