  1. So, the strange thing is that when I restart the NAS it stays for a long time without this noise and it is not constant. Just now I turned it off, removed the disks and connected one at a time to my PC to look at CrystalDiskInfo, the reports for both are ok, and after booting up the NAS there is no noise. In case of mechanical failure, shouldn't SMART detect a writing/reading failure? Could it be something related to disk defragmentation? There is defragmentation in ext4 format?
  2. Sorry for the title but it's the best I can describe it, one of the HDs is making this noise every now and then, then I restart the NAS and it stops. I recorded the sound: HDD noise.mp3 I use the NAS more like a PLEX server and the files I have on it are backed up to OneDrive. Still, I wouldn't want a bad surprise. Should I be concerned about this noise? The 8Tb HDD is still under warranty. Is a MyCloud EX2 Ultra I have 2 HDDs in it: 8TB ST8000DM004-2CX188 4TB ST4000DM005-2DP166 SMART says it's ok: 8Tb: 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 72 63 6 3 Spin_Up_Time 96 93 0 4 Start_Stop_Count 100 100 20 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 100 100 10 7 Seek_Error_Rate 84 60 45 9 Power_On_Hours 82 82 0 10 Spin_Retry_Count 100 100 97 12 Power_Cycle_Count 100 100 20 183 Runtime_Bad_Block 100 100 0 184 End-to-End_Error 100 100 99 187 Reported_Uncorrect 100 100 0 188 Command_Timeout 100 100 0 189 High_Fly_Writes 100 100 0 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel 59 48 40 191 G-Sense_Error_Rate 100 100 0 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 100 100 0 193 Load_Cycle_Count 100 100 0 194 Temperature_Celsius 41 52 0 195 Hardware_ECC_Recovered 72 64 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 100 100 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 100 100 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 200 200 0 240 Head_Flying_Hours 100 253 0 241 Total_LBAs_Written 100 253 0 242 Total_LBAs_Read 100 253 0 4Tb 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 82 64 6 3 Spin_Up_Time 94 94 0 4 Start_Stop_Count 90 90 20 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 100 100 10 7 Seek_Error_Rate 90 60 45 9 Power_On_Hours 69 69 0 10 Spin_Retry_Count 100 100 97 12 Power_Cycle_Count 99 99 20 183 Runtime_Bad_Block 100 100 0 184 End-to-End_Error 100 100 99 187 Reported_Uncorrect 100 100 0 188 Command_Timeout 100 100 0 189 High_Fly_Writes 100 100 0 190 Airflow_Temperature_Cel 63 51 40 191 G-Sense_Error_Rate 100 100 0 192 Power-Off_Retract_Count 99 97 0 193 Load_Cycle_Count 1 1 0 194 Temperature_Celsius 37 49 0 197 Current_Pending_Sector 100 100 0 198 Offline_Uncorrectable 100 100 0 199 UDMA_CRC_Error_Count 200 200 0 240 Head_Flying_Hours 100 253 0 241 Total_LBAs_Written 100 253 0 242 Total_LBAs_Read 100 253 0 -- Thanks!
  3. I watched the last video about the e-sim, but it occurred to me that this shouldn't be new, I don't remember well but I think that cell phones used to have a unique code recorded in the memory and this code was synchronized with the network operator when you subscribed to a plan, so the access control was on the operator and not on the cell phone. It should even have continued with this standard for security purposes, so if your cell phone was stolen, just block it with the operator and it would become useless. Was it like that or am I mistaken? I was a kid at that time so my memory is poor. My older brother used to have one of these: I found a picture of one opened:
  4. It's true, he doesn't turn on until after midnight. Which doesn't make the slightest sense, since several times I disconnected the BIOS battery and it loses the time setting. About the battery on the motherboard: shouldn't it turn on anyway when plugged into the wall without the battery?
  5. The issue itself will be resolved by the DELL support changin the motherboard (hopefully) or the power supply, but I'm puzzled by this behavior. I received a new laptop from the company I work for, a DELL latitude 5420 model P137G, at the office when I received it it was working perfectly, I configured everything with the support staff and the only detail is that I was using the font that was on the table, they gave it to me one and I left in my backpack. When I got home the laptop wouldn't turn on, I thought the battery had run down, so I followed this sequence of events: -Plugged in the charger and tried to turn on (no sign of life) -I pressed the power button for 30 seconds and then tried to power on (unsuccessfully) -I pressed the power button + D to test the video (unsuccessfully) -I disconnected the battery and pressed the power button for 1 minute and then connected the power brick and tried to turn on (nothing) -I disconnected the battery, the bios battery, pressed the power button for 1 minute, connected the power brick and tried to turn on (unsuccessfully) After all this I contacted DELL support and they scheduled the motherboard replacement. I left the laptop connected to the charger, the next morning I pressed the power button + D and it started the video tests. I tried restarting the laptop to enter the bios and it crashed again and wouldn't turn on anymore. Again I left it plugged in and the next day it was on the bios reset screen, I put it to perform the hardware stress tests and they were all successful, I restarted the laptop and it crashed without turning on. It was already Friday and it was dawn when I saw it turn on by itself, it entered the same screen, only this time instead of doing the hardware test I entered the bios and did a factory reset, with that I was able to boot the system, use normally, after a few hours of use, I removed and plugged in the power cord several times, restarted several times, turned it off and on and did some stress tests. So I went to adjust the laptop where it would sit on the desk, adjusting the power cord, then the laptop crashed and wouldn't turn on anymore. I have some suspicions: -The power supply has a short in the usbc cable and the laptop locks for safety. (But then removing the battery should reset this protection, I gess) -The charging usbc port has some problem. Although I stressed the cable and connector by plugging and unplugging it several times to be sure. Any idea what could be causing this behavior? I managed to detect a symptom: it stop working only if it is charging and I disconnect the power brick from the wall leaving the usb connected. Thanks.
  6. You guys don't have the $1,000 HDMI Cable anymore? Please test that thing :D
  7. I redid the test and reduced the number of sectors with error. I was using a USB hub, connected directly to the motherboard then get a better speed. I'm using a generic usb stick to read sdcards, I will try in my laptop. This is the best tool to check this? The number of corrupted kbytes changed. Warning: Only 30507 of 30508 MByte tested. 10. But the processor is rated to 3200MHz top. There is any gain getting a higher frequency if is not used?

Hello everybody, There something weird happening when I try to play some video on MPC, the following message shown when the video is loaded: Attached is the the printscreens of the message, it's in my language portuguese and the user somethimes doens't showup or changes. I used the translator of my phone to try check this text in Chinese and translated to "Lou Yingjing, province of Xiatu". And the character on one of the messages to "City". I checked the mpc to see if was setted to execute as some diferent user and it's ok, and have no idea how to check LAV as is only DLL's. Right now I'm running Malware Bytes, checking the proccesses with the hijackthis and will install some antivirus (Sophos or ZoneAlarm) to do some scan. Anyone know whats going on? Thanks!
  15. Hello everybody! I'm from Brazil, I'm thinking about upgrading my current setup to a new AMD line, Most part I use my PC to game and develop, but sometimes I need to run multiple tasks over an machine learning code or some multi thread code, my computer can handle, but If I get some money at the end of the year I'm thinking about it and need some advice if I will get something more with this upgrade or if i should wait a little more. My current setup: I5 4690K OC at 4,2Ghz Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 16Gb DDR3 Asus Z97M GTX 1070-Ti I would like to be able to run multiple threads at once for these development / machine learning tasks and also not lose processing power in games. What do you recommend? Is it possible to reuse my cooler? Thank you!
