My EVGA GTX 780 SC ACX caught fire the other night due to a factory defect in the card I received in an RMA two years ago. Despite it being their fault for not testing, EVGA won't replace it because I'm 90 days out of a 3-year warranty...
So I've bandaided it with a Zotac 1050ti Mini for $145. I bought the Zotac because it was instock now as opposed to next week. I'm pretty poor rn because I had to take a month off work because of the gap between summer and fall terms at school. I'm gonna save up for a new card and I'm considering just getting a new case, power supply and cables and rebuilding in a smaller, better condition case than my current one. What's the most cost effective method of getting the performance I lost with the death of my 780? What's most "worth it"? I'd like to do VR, too. Near the end my 780 performed like shit anyway, so I'll be better off with the 1050ti, but I don't know if the card is gonna satisfy me long-term in terms of 1080p 144hz preferences.
