I have a Radeon HD 6870 that could really do with a replace. PSU isn't a lot of wattage so getting one of these would be so cool

Dedicated Minecraft Server Computer?
GrobfootGaming replied to GrobfootGaming's topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
I already have everything but the CPU and RAM which I can get for like 50-60 bucks. The whole point of this is so my friends and I can experiment running our own server and having full responsibility and control over it. I was just asking if what I described was powerful enough to run a Minecraft Server -
My friends and I want to start a minecraft server for everyone at our school as a project, and we are going to build a computer to run the server 24/7. The build plan is currently a Xeon X5460 and 16GB of DDR2 RAM (800 mHz). Would this server be powerful enough to run no-lag minecraft for a maximum of probably 50 people? Would I need to add any networking cards of any sort? No PCI-e lanes will be used because the PC won't have a graphics card. End goal is to have a fast and reliable MC server that doesn't have to be hosted on one of our computers while we play.

I have an orange themed second PC build and it needs some speakers. does anyone know of any decent speakers that have orange accents/lights? I found the speakers below and it is exactly the style I am looking for but the speakers themselves don't seem toooo top notch, but I don't know there are not many reviews on them.

Best LGA 771 Xeon cpu
GrobfootGaming replied to GrobfootGaming's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
what would the highest end one be? The motherboard supports all of them -
I like tinkering with computers and I recently got an old 775 socket system with an ancient celeron in it. I follow this youtuber called Tech Yes City who showed a mod to allow old LGA 771 Xeon chips to work in these boards. I want to try to do this for fun and considering the old xeons run for around 20-30 bucks it wouldn't be that big of a deal if I break it. However, I don't know which chip I should buy but I want to get the best one I can. Any insight on this?

If you can buy a 970 for 300 or less go with that. If you can't, buy a 390

*POLL* What Graphics Card Are YOU (probably) Getting Next?
GrobfootGaming replied to DocSwag's topic in Graphics Cards
probably gonna buy a GTX 285 ya know... -
So I have 2 audio sources in my setup. I have a pair of headphones, and then a home theatre surround sound system. I bought an audio splitter and plugged them both into the output on the back of my computer. My headphones work fine and great, but the surround sound system is only giving me the left, right, and subwoofer as output. I would like for the speakers to utilize the center speaker (I don't use the real left and right) for music and general stuff. Any idea of how to make this work?

Quick question about my cpu!
GrobfootGaming replied to BenKavanagh's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
It should be fine paired with a 950. You could always get an AMD gpu and use that APU/GPU linky whatchamacallit to squeeze out a tad more graphics performance. -
Best place to find a REALLY cheap case?
GrobfootGaming replied to GrobfootGaming's topic in Power Supplies
Yeah I've just been looking. I found one place in my town that says they do electronics recycling. I'll give them a call tomorrow or this weekend to see if they will let me take some of the stuff off of their hands. -
I have enough parts to throw together a pretty basic gaming/home PC. I need a power supply, RAM, and a case. The PSU I am going to buy new and the RAM is cheap, but I need a PC case for little-to-nothing. Is there anywhere good (online or offline) that sells prettymuch trash PC cases that still work? I've seen youtube videos where people throw in their case in their used builds for like 5 bucks and I want to get my hands on one of those.
