  1. I would like to introduce my dedicated addition to my Folding@Home workload, nicknamed Ugly Duckling. This is a compilation of mismatched parts I have available and will be upgraded to more proper hardware in the future. I will note that the PSU is brand new, never skimp out on that. For extra cringe, that is an Intel DQ45CB LGA775 board with an E8400, 8GB DDR2 RAM, with 3 mismatched AMD graphics cards. The AMD HD 6800 is not folding so I'm assuming it is no longer supported. This not doing nearly as good as my two p106-100 mining GPUs in my main rig but every little bit helps.
  2. @BloodKnight7 I wanted to give a final update in regard to using the official Dell images. I installed the Dell 6.5 U3 image and the stability with the AMD GPU was exceptionally better. I was able to install the GPU, add to VM, install drivers in VM, etc all without issue. However, I ran into an issue with trying to get it to work with Folding@Home in the VM. I could not get F@H to find the GPU and add it which was the main purpose for wanting to add the GPU in the first place. I have decided to focus on upgrading CPUs and RAM in that server only. I have a Rosewill 4U mining case on the way and will work on building out a dedicated F@H box and forgoing virtualization. I really appreciated the help with troubleshooting. Thanks! SgtKilgore406 P.S. I have now since switched to Proxmox and am already enjoying the extra free features that would have cost real $$$ from VMware.
  3. @BloodKnight7 The only reason I don't use the official image for my model is because the latest version they have is 6.5 U3 and I'm running 6.7. I've kind of started looking at possibly migrating to Proxmox instead so that I can use live migration and high availability. Regarding the graphics card, I think it probably is trying to pull too much power and crashing the server. I'm currently looking at the Nvidia Grid K2 cards on eBay as a better supported replacement.
  4. @BloodKnight7 No, I used the official ESXi 6.7 image from VMware. The firmware, BIOS, and IDRAC are all up to date. I have 2 E5-2630 (version 1) CPUs installed which are rated at 95W. I am only trying to install one GPU. Looking at what is provided with a GPU enablement kit LINK I only need the power cable for the GPU. If power is the issue I'm surprised Dell didn't put in an error message to reference a "bus fatal error power draw limit exceeded" or something like that. The image below (attached) shows the card with the riser power adapter. Note that I have tried the card in both that slot and the top middle slot with the same result.
  5. I am having a problem with my PowerEdge R720 and do not have an idea why. I purchased the riser cable/adapter to power a GPU and have put an AMD R9 280 in. I can start the server perfectly fine and ESXi sees the GPU listed. Everything works until I try to power up a VM that has the card attached. The server ends up having hardware errors shown below. I have tried to move the GPU to a different slot but the issue is still present. For verification, I put an AMD HD6850 in the server and had zero problems including booting up a VM with that card passed through. I'm not sure if its a power issue or not. The server has dual 1100w PSUs so I wouldn't think power is the problem.
  6. Okay, that is good to know. The plan would be to run Windows in Boot Camp with the laptop lid closed and only using the external monitor. My worry was just the viability of using an ultrawide monitor with regard to the more niche resolution.
  7. Whoops, looks like I put this in the wrong section. If a moderator sees this, would you please move this to the GPU section?
  8. I have an odd question and it may not be a problem but I want to be sure. I have a 2017 MacBook Air 13" with the Intel HD 6000 graphics card. The official maximum resolution on an external monitor is 4K @60fps. What I am not sure is if getting a monitor with a resolution of 3840x1080 or 5120x1440 (49" curved monitors) would be compatible and work. Both of these resolutions have a pixel count less than 4K but I am not sure if that is the main factor in determining compatibility. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  9. Thank you for the information! I will keep that in mind and start looking at possible build scenarios. I already have a 4U Rosewill case (can't remember the model number off the top of my head) but will check out some other cases to.
  10. Ok, thanks for the information! How would a cheaper Ryzen (Ryzen 3 or 5) system do with 3 GTX 1650 GPUs running independently? Would it be better to go with RTX 2060s or are there any other AMD or Nvidia flavors that would be recommended on a budget (don't intend to spend $500+ for a folding GPU)? I have a server rack and will likely build out the systems into rack mount cases. Thanks!
  11. I have been thinking about trying to get a dedicated server for running my F@H and am curious if getting a Dell R910 and giving it about 40 cores would be a good machine? I am currently using my GTX 980 and an R9 280 in my desktop. I am not concerned about power usage, cooling, or anything like that. What I am hoping to find out is how well of a folding machine could I make an R910? If not, are there any other servers that are relatively cheap that would be a good option? Thanks!
  12. Hello, I have been trying to get a theme named Woffice to install and work properly on a new WordPress installation. However I have been fraught with 404 page issues. The problem is that this theme requires that you set the Permalink setting on WordPress to "Post name" or their other pages will give you 404 errors (mentioned on their documentation page here). The problem is that their theme is not the only one that is having this issue as any theme I try with the Permalink option set at "Post name" will undoubtedly have the 404 page error. The system I am running is a Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS installation with a LAMP stack (Apache version 2.4.29 (Ubuntu) | MySQL version 5.7.25-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 | PHP version 7.2), and WordPress 5.0.3. I know that with Post name set that all the pages I try and reach from the homepage shows that the server is trying to reach a directory on the root of the webserver that does not exist. Is there a default location that I need to set for Post name to work? I unfortunately have little knowledge about the ins and outs of WordPress and any help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Thank you for the help, I figured it out at last. I was putting the TLS Auth Key in the Static Key field.... After fixing that mistake the connection succeeded immediately. Now I just have to figure out how to get the routing setup right. Already locked myself out of the router several time now (thankfully I took a config backup to make restoring easy)! Just for future reference, DD-WRT v3.0-r37139 big (10/04/18) is running OpenVPN v2.4.6.
  14. Please excuse my ignorance but how do I find out what version is running on DD-WRT (I didn't install OpenVPN manually, it is the pre-packaged one that comes with the firmware)? I am using the latest DD-WRT version available at the moment [DD-WRT v3.0-r37139 big (10/04/18)] if that helps. I really like DD-WRT but am still fairly new to all the advanced functions it can provide.
