  1. Hello! I did not expect to finally get a comment on this 3 years later. Nice surprise. TLDR, no. I still did not find a solution, but I think I have narrowed down what the problem is since then. A little bit after I posted this, I bought a PCI-E USB card. I was hoping that the issue may have been USB related and getting a separate card with it's own controller would help. However, not only did this not help the issue, it actually made it worse. I tried to see if there was any other card that was known to work, so I bought a different one and the same issue persisted. So that solution was out the window. Also, I tried a power USB hub in case it was a power issue but it didn't change anything. A few months later, I upgraded to a RTX 2060 over my RX 580. I was starting to have some strange graphics issues and computer crashes that I believe may have been caused by the card. When I switched to the 2060, my general computer issues went away and I optimistically tried my VR setup again to see if the issue still persisted and to my dismay, it did. It is not a GPU issue. In August last year, I bought a used Oculus Quest 2 to replace my Samsung Odyssey. I mostly used my headset with my laptop since I had no issues, but I was hoping the change in ecosystem would solve the problem so I could play more intensive games. But, I had similar problems with the Quest, which is crazy to me. In fact, I would say using the Quest with Oculus Link has worse issues than the WMR headset. Finally, I have upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 5600 just a few months ago. Side note, but the drop in upgrade from a Ryzen 1600 to 5600 is awesome, great (relatively) inexpensive performance boost without having to by a new motherboard. I have pretty much changed everything in my rig except the RAM and motherboard at this point, and I'm pretty sure RAM isn't the issue. So I've determined that the motherboard is the most likely culprit. Something about the USB controller on that motherboard does not play well with VR Headsets. I'm not exactly sure why the USB card didn't work, but I think WMR (and particularly the Samsung Odyssey headset) is just really picking about USB ports. I guess I don't really have any advice if you're having the same issues. It's entirely possible that one of the things I tried would work for you though. Hopefully this helps!
  2. Hello, My MacBook Pro keeps crashing after the latest update. It gives me an error message and then restarts the computer. The error message says something about a USB Card Reader Driver, though I have nothing plugged into my laptop. It's inconsistent too on when it happens, sometimes it will crash several times a day and other times it will work perfectly fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Specs- MacBook Pro (13in, Early 2015) 2.7 GHz Dual-Core i5 8GB Memory MacOS 11.3.1 Here is the error code as well (spoiled out because it is super long) Thank you!
  3. Alright final update. I couldn't find anything online about why this would be happening. I'm going to run with this GTX 745 until I get enough money to get a new card (probably a 2060). I will hopefully be able to sell my current one to make it easier. Anyways, thanks for your help!
  4. Sadly I don't think so, I might just have to get a new card, I might be able to sell this one with a warning that it might be defective and that could help out. I'm going to look around to see if I can find anymore information online to see if its a software issue. Thank you for your help!
  5. Another update. I switched out the GPU for my friend's GTX 745. Not a great card, but enough to diagnose the problem. I ran on that GPU for about a day and a half without any issues, to confirm my suspension, after switching in my RX 580 back into my system, it crashed within 10 minutes. The GPU seems to be the problem. Now I don't really know what to do. I put the RX 580 in a another system and it seemed to run fine for the day that I tested it, so I don't think it is a hardware issue. I have tried at least 3 different driver update since this has started, so I don't know if it is related to that either. Do you have any other ideas on why the GPU might be causing this? Thanks.
  6. Alright update. I tried with the EVGA power supply and after 2 hours it crashed like it did before. We can rule PSU out. I'm going to try and borrow a GPU and some spare RAM from a friend and I can get that to work. You got any other ideas other than that? Thanks.
  7. My worry is if I use the power supply is if the system crashes, I don't know if it will be because I didn't have enough wattage or if it is the issue I've been having. I'll see if I have time tonight to plug in the EVGA unit and see if that's it. Sidenote, the system crashed a total of 2 times in between me posting my question and me writing this. However, just out of curiosity I did Ctrl+Alt+Delete on one of the crashes and the mouse cursor actually responded and the blue spinning circle appeared for a brief moment until it glitched out and then the PC restarted as usual. Don't know if that helps any to figure out the issue but it was irregular behavior for this crash. I'll let you know my results when I do the PSU switch. Thanks.
  8. Alright, finished! Next time I gotta remember Tab does not equal indent on the text editor.
  9. Bear with me a second, I accidentally posted this before I finished writing it. I'm finishing up now.
  10. Hey everyone, Recently, I have been having issue with my computer randomly crashing. At random points throughout the day, my computer will freeze (audio will still play though) for a few seconds and then completely reboot. Sometimes it happens minutes into booting up my PC, sometimes it happen after using it for 8 hours. I doesn't seem to matter what I am doing either, I could have 1 chrome page open and nothing else and it crashes or be playing a game and it crashes. It so inconsistent that I can't pin down what it is. Here are some things I have already tried. -Updating BIOS -Removing CPU Overclock -Re-seating RAM -Clean installed and updated GPU drivers -Checked CPU and GPU temps (both stayed way below dangerous temperatures) -Removed Hard Drive -It started happening a few weeks after I added a new Hard Drive to my system so I thought that might have been it but no. -Cleared CMOS I am starting to run out of ideas. I have seen some people say it could be power supply, but I don't really have any way of knowing without getting a new one. I have a spare 400W from EVGA but I don't know if that is enough power for my system to begin with so I don't think it would help with troubleshooting. So any help will be appreciated. Here are my specs. CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.8 GHz GPU: Gigabyte Aorus RX 580 8GB RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws V 3200MHz Motherboard: MSI x370 Gaming Pro PSU: SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W Thank you so much!
  11. This is weird. First, I'm assuming you play the games off the AOC monitor right? From what I can tell that's the better of the 2. I have 3 questions. 1. Are you running these games as borderless window or fullscreen? In my experience (mind you, I run AMD where problems like this are more common. Thanks drivers...) some game do weird things depending on whether they are in fullscreen or borderless window. 2. Are you using FreeSync. Since Nvidia GPUs support it now, however some FreeSync displays don't work as well as others. That doesn't quite line up with the October-ish time frame since they didn't add that until January, but it's an idea nonetheless. 3. What apps do you have running in the background. Sometimes applications (I've seen discord cause this) have overlays that can cause issues so that might be it. Hopefully we can figure this out.
  12. I'm just going to throw some ideas and questions out here, I'm imagining you already did most of them but just in case. Did you update your display drivers? Have you updated your bios How long have you had the system? Did you build it and this started happening or did this suddenly occur after years of use? If you've had it for awhile, what applications are usually running in the background?
  13. Hello there, I bought a Samsung Oddysey Windows Mixed Reality Headset about a year ago. It has been serving me well and has worked pretty much flawlessly 90%, and the few times it doesn't simply reconnecting it and resetting the room boundaries usually fixes whatever issues. I recently purchased Half-Life Alyx during the Steam Summer Sale. Now, I normally run my VR games off my laptop with a GTX 1650 and a Intel Core i5 9300H. While this setup is not ideal for VR, it has been perfectly adequate for the simple games I have played like Beat Saber and Superhot. I bought Alyx knowing that there was a good chance it wouldn't run very well on my laptop, and I was right. I played for about 20 minutes and the high frame-times and low frame-rate started making me feel nauseous. However, I knew this would have probably happened so I decided to switch over to my desktop with an RX 580 and a Ryzen 1600, conveniently the exact minimum requirement for Alyx. Here are the rest of the specs. CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.8MHz GPU: Gigabyte RX 580 8GB (not overclocked) Motherboard: MSI Gaming Pro X370 RAM: 16GB 3200mhz HyperX Fury Storage (where the game is installed): 3TB WD Cavier Blue Power Supply: SeaSonic M12II 620W OS: Windows 10 Home I am running the game at low settings. The reason I don't usually play VR on my desktop is the room that it is in is quite small compared to the areas I can take my laptop too. It had been quite awhile since I last played a VR game on my desktop, but I didn't think it would be an issue. However, after starting VR I was having problems. First, the controllers would drift everywhere and even when they were tracking normally they would sorta shake making it hard to select things. Sometimes they would just go missing for a seconds on end and come back randomly. The worst thing by far however was the headset itself. At least every 30-60 seconds the headset display would say "Lost Boundary" and just freeze, spaz out for a few seconds, and then go back to normal for 30-60 more seconds until it happened again. It is nauseating. Sometimes, it doesn't even say lost boundary, the display will just freeze. You can still look around but it is just a black void around you. By the way, when all of this happens you can also see the freezing on the monitor mirroring the game. I can be pretty sure it is not the headset itself because everything worked fine on my laptop, even when running Alyx. I am also quite certain these issues are not Alyx exclusive as they happen in the WMR House hub place as well, but admittedly not as frequently. Here is a list of things I have already tried based on internet recommendations... Reinstalled Windows Mixed Reality Clean install of graphics drivers Disconnected everything except necessary peripherals from USB. The only things connected are the Headset and Bluetooth Dongle on the back ports and Mouse Dongle in the front port. The only things connected to Bluetooth are the controllers and a bluetooth keyboard. Tried connecting headset to different USB 3.0 ports. I even tried a USB 3.1 port, but it wouldn't even let me launch VR with that without giving me an error, so only USB 3.0. The headset connects via HDMI and my RX 580 only has 1 HDMI Port so I can't really do anything else there. By the way, the monitor I am using is connected via DisplayPort Turned off motion smoothing in SteamVR Lowered the "Quality" Settings in the Windows Mixed Reality Settings Cleared Environment Data from Windows Mixed Reality Settings Reinstalled SteamVR (and SteamVR for WMR) I have USB and HDMI 6ft extensions, and I tried disconnecting those but still the same. I'm starting to run out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to provide as much information as possible, but please let me know if you need anymore information on the setup. Thanks everyone!
  14. I used the windows troubleshooter and it didn't work either if that's what you mean.
  15. I wish there was medicine for Windows!
  16. Hey everyone, I've been having this issue for a while now where my computer won't fall asleep automatically. I have my settings set for it to sleep, but it just doesn't. The screen will turn off but the computer will stay on. It's starting to become an issue since I am wasting a lot of power just to have my computer running for no reason. I have looked all over the internet to find a solution, so here is a list of all the things I have done. Made sure the computer is set to sleep Restored Power Plan Defaults Disabled Hybrid Sleep Disabled Wake Timers Allow the computer the sleep when sharing media Disabled Update Orchestator from waking my computer from sleep Checked the Power Requests in Command Prompt Override Power Requests in Command Prompt Checked Last Wake in command prompt (It was nothing since my computer never feel asleep) Made sure no Devices (USB, Network Adapter etc) were causing it to stay awake I don't really know where to go at this point since I've seem to have done everything the internet says to do. I'm starting to think it is a hardware issue, but my most recent part was a power supply upgrade a few weeks before this started happening. It also might be one of the drivers, though I did the Power Request Override and it still didn't work If anyone has any idea, I am open to suggestions. Thanks again for your help!
  17. So I usually use a power-line adapter connected to my computer for my internet. My router is very far away and I seem to get more reliable connection, for the expense of speed which I am perfectly fine doing. Recently however, I got a new router and as a test I wanted to see how much speed I was losing by using my power-line solution. I have 2 wireless adapters, one that I bought before I had my power-line adapter from TP-Link, and one that I got for free as part of a mother board deal from MSI (but it's really just a re-branded Intel Chip). The links are there if you want a reference. The MSI adapter was a bluetooth and wifi chip, so I have been using it for bluetooth for the past few months and never did any test for the wifi side. So with it already installed in my computer, I tried to connect to the wifi only to find out it wasn't working. Windows wasn't detecting it as a wifi device, only bluetooth. I thought to myself, "It's just a driver issue." So I went to go reinstall my drivers and try again, when I did the same thing happened. I then thought maybe something happened with the Windows install since I have never used wifi on this system yet (The TP-Link wireless adapter was for another system if you were wondering). I installed the TP-Link adapter to check if my wifi was working at all, and it was and worked just fine. I then tried to get the other adapter to work, I switched the PCI slot it was in, made sure nothing was broken and tried again with the same result. I then gave up, didn't really think it was that big a deal and moved on. I plugged the MSI Adapter in for bluetooth and the TP-Link to test out the wifi. When I booted up the system, both adapters showed up and worked. I could connect to wifi on both adapters. I really don't know why this is happening, I just thought it was odd. I don't really get why I would need to have both adapter plugged in to get one to work. My only thought is that when Windows detects the fact that there is a wifi card, it realizes that the MSI one is there. I also haven't had a chance to try the adapter out on different pc to see if I get the same results, but I hope to do that at some point. If you have any theories on why this is happening, comment away. I want to see if there is a reasonable explanation and it just me being dumb Thanks EDIT: Here are my system specs if you think it has something to do with it. MSI X370 Gaming Pro Motherboard AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (Overclocked to 3.8GHz) 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 2933MHz AMD RX460 2GB A case, power supply, HHD, M.2 SSD, and stuff I don't really want to look up specifics but they really shouldn't matter to much.
  18. So I just bought a 250gb Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD (that's a mouthful). I plugged in my windows flash drive to reinstall windows on it, and I did. So with windows on my SSD I thought I was good to go, but the SSD doesn't show up in the motherboard BIOS in the boot menu options. I have a MSI X370 Gaming Pro Motherboard. What is weird is that in Windows it shows up just fine in file explorer and disk management and I can use it no problem but it doesn't show up in the BIOS. I have updated to no success, I have also made sure SATA Port 5&6 were not in use (since I looked at someone with the same problem that fixed it that way) and that also didn't work. I have no idea what is going on, and I can't boot into windows on my SSD. Any help would be great. If you need to know the specifics of my rig: MSI X370 Gaming Pro Mother AMD Ryzen 5 1600 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 2933MHz AMD RX460 2GB A case, power supply and other stuff that shouldn't really matter.
  19. Yeah thats pretty much it, thanks for your suggestions
  20. I reformatted it to no success, and it doesn't show up in Disk Manager when I plug it in to the front.
  21. So the usb drive (3.0) doesn't work on my front usb ports (3.0), but anything else I plug in does. I also checked the motherboard and everything is in properly. Also, when I plug in the drive that isn't working into any other port in the computer it works just fine.
  22. Okay, so I just re downloaded the drivers and it still doesn't work. I am going to try reformatting the drive and then see.
  23. Yeah, but the drive I plugged in that isn't working is 3.0 and I'm plugging it into a 3.0 port. I also am pretty sure I downloaded the drivers, but I may have to do that again just to check.
