  1. Hello community! So I FINALLY got some money and upgraded my whole HT setup. I ended up going with a Vizio P-Series TV with a receiver. It's great for content consumption but...I have my switch plugged into the dedicated 1080p HDMI port in the TV which has lower latency. The PICTURE is awesome, but now my ARC audio is behind the picture. What if anything can I do to compensate for this? The easy solution I see is to add a delay to the picture, but that defeats the purpose of the low latency HDMI port.
  2. I'm looking to get a fitness tracker or smart watch, but I have a few must-haves which seem to be met by some of the Garmin accessories, so I'm hoping someone here has experience with them. The things I need in a device like this are the following: Always-on display GPS Water resistant enough to swim Receive text alerts At least 2 days of battery life without the GPS The ones I'm looking at now are the Vivosport and Vivoactive 3. Thanks!
  3. I'm looking for an inexpensive audio mixer for my desk so put all my audio sources together and through one pair of headphones. I don't need too many inputs, 3 or 4 should be fine. I'm also fine with either 3.5mm or 1/4in plugs. Thanks!
  4. I recently fixed a friends old pc currently running windows 7 with an AMD phenom ii x2, 8 gigs of ram, and a gts 450. My question is whether or not upgrading to windows 10 is a good idea or if it will reduce the performance of this aging hardware.
  5. I have a keyboard tray so I can't always see my keyboard when I don't pull it out and I'll usually start typing with just one hand, especially when I'm just entering part of a url which I expect to be auto-completed like if I'm going to type "lin" for linustechtips.
  6. It's time for me to get a keyboard upgrade to a real keyboard as I'm currently using a cheap wireless Microsoft keyboard. One consideration I have is that I always put my hands on my keyboard without looking, but often I'll put my index finger on the wrong bump. I was wondering if anyone had a good solution for this so the tactile feel of the F and J keys are different. I imagine I'll have to swap one of the keycaps, but I'm a keyboard noob so if anyone knows any particulars for a keyboard/keycap that would be awesome!
  7. You could be right, I just have no experience with mixers. What should I be wary of?
  8. I'm looking for a set of headphones with simultaneous inputs. Thus far, I've only found the Logitech g933s but I wanted to check if there were any other options out there or if people had an elegant solution to use my existing headphones. As of now my solution is to use my Apple (wired) earpods inside my Sennheiser 598cs, but this is uncomfortable and I don't want to rely on apple earpod sound. Two inputs is sufficient, but three is even better. The devices I'd usually be connecting to are some combination of a laptop, desktop, tablet, and phone so both 3.5mm and Bluetooth work great. Thanks!
  9. I recently lost (not shure how because I never detach them) the right ear bud from my Shure SE315s. I was very happy with them, in particular because of the comfort of the foam tips and flush design. Ideally I would like to get a replacement, but unless someone can refer me to a black replacement ear bud for max $80 it may be time to look into some new buds. I'm not rolling in dough at the moment because I'm a student so the cheaper the better, but I can cough up up to $250 if something is compellingly worth it. I use them to listen to just about anything while I'm out or napping from podcasts to classical music to electronic music. I also have a pair of Sennheiser 598 Cs I use primarily at my desk with my PC.
  10. Podcasts! How they're distributed, how different from radio, how they're different from video streaming, etc It's not a complicated topic but it's one people don't know about.
  11. @LinusTech you can microwave your workout clothes to disinfect them.
  12. My girlfriend and I just moved in to a new apartment together, so it's time to revamp the tech to fit our new needs. We now have a new TV in the living room along with cable box, my Chromecast, and her PS3. Unfortunately, our TV only has 2 HDMI inputs. To make matters worse, I would like to find a way to connect my gaming PC to the TV for casual couch gaming and local multiplayer. For the input problem, I need to get some sort of HDMI hub so that I don't have to physically change which devices are plugged in. I would also like to keep things simple with just one remote to control everything, so a hub that can automatically detect inputs well or be programmed to a universal remote would be ideal. For my PC, there is already a 25ft ethernet cord that runs from behind the TV to my PC because of the placement of the cable outlet in the apartment so I've been considering a Steam Link which would also be connected over ethernet, or just running a 25ft HDMI cord directly from my PC to the TV along with some sort of USB extension along the same route as the existing ethernet cord.
  13. So in my current rig I've got an Intel 730 series 240GB SSD boot drive with a 3 TB WD green for daily backups. My intention was to add SSD storage as needed for programs and I've hit my limit. I took advantage of a deal on Newegg to get 4 Sandisk SSD PLUS 120GB, but now I'm not sure what configuration would be best. That is, I'm not sure whether to run some sort of RAID array, and if I do, I'm not sure which drive should be my boot drive. I have an MSI x99s gaming 7 motherboard which supports some RAID functionality, and I don't want to buy a RAID card.
  14. Would it be worth the extra money to add curve to the LG monitor? Also, what about the Samsung and Dell 34" curved displays? The Dell UltraSharp U3415W is only $850 on Amazon right now.
  15. This will probably end up being a little long winded, so bear with me. I recently built a new pc to supplement my several year old macbook pro so I could get more into PC gaming and turn up my horsepower. The problem is that I've been using an old ViewSonic monitor that I used to use as a second screen for my laptop. It's a 22" 1080p 60hz monitor with terrible viewing angles. Now I've got about $1000 to spend on a new monitor or monitors to improve on my screen real-estate and gaming experience. I want a setup for both gaming and productivity. As far as games go, I'm not a serious competitor but I want to enjoy the experience. I tend to play mostly RPG, MMORPG, and RTS type games, but I'm not really an FPS fan. My rig is running a GTX 980, and I've already checked and most games I'll be playing handle triple monitor surround and ultrawide aspect ratios well. For productivity, I'm a multitasking maniac, sometimes even on several machines at once. Using OSX expose has got me in the habit of layering many windows rather than tabs, and I'd like to spread my pages rather than layering them. At any given time I usually have about 3 windows of actual work open along with about 2 more that are music or videos I have queued up to watch as I work. I'm also one of the few people who would actually benefit from a PBP or dual-link feature since I'll be using both my desktop and laptop at once and the added versatility and screen space would be nice. My experience with monitors has been extremely limited, so I will be easy to wow. I'd like to try and avoid TN panels in favor of IPS since I don't care too much about response times and I'd like the improved picture quality. To give you an idea of my preferences, given unlimited funds to buy monitors and GPUs I would run 3 27" IPS 1440p displays plus a 34" IPS 1440p ultrawide. Being more reasonable here are some of the combinations I've been thinking about, without specifying monitors. 1 34" 1440p ultrawide 3 nice 24" 1080p monitors 3 decent 24" 1080p monitors plus a 29" ultrawide 1 excellent 27" 1440p monitor plus whatever other monitor I can afford (preferably an ultrawide) I will also be keeping my old monitor as an auxiliary monitor still. Please feel free to be creative with combinations!
