  1. please wear ear protection when working on servers. people care too little about their hearing until it's too late, believe me.
  2. i turned off memory fast boot, which is part of my motherboards xmp profile, and now the pc boots normally again. was a shot in the dark, i don't know how it makes any sense to not skip the memory check in order to solve this problem, but i guess it's solved now.
  3. i added another 2 sticks to my ram, cmw16gx4m2c3200c16, that's Corsair 16gb 3200mhz, 32 gigs in total now. exact same product as my old sticks. tomahawk max b450 and a ryzen 3600. bios is up to date. i found out that the pc boots without issues when i turn xmp off, but i want to use the full speed. when i leave xmp on the pc shuts down, lights turn off, after 5-10 seconds it boots up again, this time into windows, all 32gb are available at full speed. i currently let MemTest64 run to see if there are any issues, so far nothing. should i be worried about the strange boot behavior?
  4. i really want to see a cheap phone, up to 250 bucks maybe. this price range doesn't really get a lot of attention, so it is difficult to shop for a phone. i don't know much about phones or snapdragon processors, since my interest for technology is mostly driven by gaming, and mobile games are utter garbage. i personally can't justify buying an expensive phone, because i don't actually do anything that should require a lot of processing power. light browsing, taking pictures, listening to music, watching youtube and texting is all i really do. since i don't know much about phones i'll leave it to somebody else to pick a phone in that price range. i currently have a Samsung A10, which admittedly is too slow (and old) to really be usable. all i see in the reddit thread are flagship phones and a couple of meme phones. for once we have the chance to have linus really test a budget phone long term and give us his honest opinion and we are wasting it.
  5. not a single mention of refresh rates... mismatching your refresh rates can cause bad frame timings. i had stutters when i still used a 60hz 2nd monitor and it went away when i replaced it with a 144hz monitor.
  6. Have you never googled something and the only results for several pages were shitty articles that waste your time, but the moment you put reddit at the end of your search query you actually got what you were looking for? 9/10 times when i get a forum as a result it's a 1 reply thread telling OP to just use google, or a redirect to an old thread with outdated/broken links.
  7. For the first time in years I'm really browsing through a forum other than reddit. I've used LLT forums every now and then for tech questions, but i didn't really browse it. I find that sorting posts in a timeline, rather than grouping them by replies and upvotes is a lot less interesting and i just end up thinking "this thread has too many replies, moving on", because i can't be bothered to read through 60 replies of people misunderstanding each other or ranting about nonsense till i get to the good replies. Anyway, is this something you'd want to see other forums copy, or do you think a traditional timeline is better? I get that the opinions here may be biased, since we are on a traditional forum, but I'm still curious.
  8. "Big PC Cases are DEAD to Me" said the guy with the server rack pc cases. Come on guys get your clickbait in check.
  9. Please do a noise floor test of expensive motherboards from well known brands who claim to have high quality audio vs a low budget mobo + external dac amp
  10. you guys need to try ANC headphones in high humidity environments. i had 3 300€+ headphones start hissing and one had a weird bass boost on one side. turns out my house is too humid and the issues go away when i turn off ANC. the support told me how to remove the moisture out of the ANC microphones, but since the issue kept appearing on the new headphones after about a day i felt like it was an unreasonable amount of effort to keep them dry. really infuriating for such an expensive product. And my house isn't even that humid, only about 50%. air conditioning is not common in my country. for reference they were sennheiser momentum 2.0 headphones, the over ear ones.
  11. not only is wireless charging super inefficient, but this whole project contradicts itself. "I don't want to have cables on my desk" solution: wireless keyboard "but i still have to use a wire to charge the keyboard" solution: put a wire under the desk to a fat, inefficient induction charger "but i don't want to have a fat induction charger under my desk" solution: put the induction chargers in your desk mat, so your desk mat now has a cable, rather than your keyboard. we did a full 360 here, you still have a cable on your desk. on a sidenote, i thought linus hated e-waste, what's more e-waste than the degrading battery of a mostly stationary keyboard? seems like he was the wrong guy to host this pointless project.
  12. Huh, i guess it's not that old, certainly feels older, and slower than an octa core. The 2GB RAM might be holding it back. Opening one app at a time is okay, but switching between two apps seriously slows it down. Sometimes it takes 20 seconds to open the browser or youtube, or even something as simple as notes when i research stuff in the browser and want to take notes at the same time. It's not uncommon that it clears the ram, clears all apps and the launcher. I'll try out the app tracking protection.
