  1. Does anyone have a way to check the performance per dollar or running in SLI vs buying a newer card? How does linus do that?
  2. Uh ohh... an opposing opinion... now I'm confused again lol.
  3. Crazy, I didn't know this! Well thanks for costing me more money! No I really do appreciate it, I'm going to hold off for a bit then just do a serious upgrade to a 1080ti. I can toss this 970 back into my 4790k build... I'd like to get that thing into an ITX build, I see you recommend the Silverstone Sugo lol Thanks again for the help!
  4. Not sure I understand this, I know SLI doesn't double performance but in some titles it gets pretty close right? I should also mention that I game in 1080p, at 60fps... I unfortunately don't have a nice panel yet.
  5. I have a ryzen 2700x build, I used my old 970 because honestly it does everything I need it too. When browsing ebay, I saw that I can get a used 970 for 90-130USD... I'm kicking around the idea of future proofing this PC a bit for gaming, get a few more years of ultra gaming out of it....I strictly game in 1080p... But titles require more and more ponies these days... I found old videos saying that 970 in SLI perform similar to a 980ti.... but the cost wasn't worth the setup... but now that the cards are sooo cheap.... it seems to make sense just to SLI this puppy. I'm torn! Buy a 1070ish card... or just SLI the one I have? Thoughts? Need some knowledgeable opinions to help me make up my mind.
  6. Preach on. I've had a number of drives fail, but I always test them out fully before loading them up with data. Right now, I have a seagate 8tb HDD that I instantly sent back when it first received it because it couldn't pass SMART, the replacement is working fine. I also hada 4tb WD drive fail and lost data recently, it was a few years old though and the new 4tb that took its place is running fine. I just abuse the snot out of my hard drives... on 24x7, seeding 5000ish files, and a ton of plex users.... those things are always spinning up.
  7. I would love to see the follow up emails and calls..... If it's true I bet LTT could sue for Damaging the LTT brand... it would also send a message to other potential sponsors who think of making some sweet Monero on the backs of LTT fans. Paging John, is there a case there?
  8. Actually this might be right, I noticed that the drive I bought last year is running newer firmware... didn't think it could be an issue I don't know, I put my disks through a pretty extreme work environment... constantly seeding, and multiple people accessing media files via plex... So I feel like I need to put the drive through it's own testing before start relying on it to perform that way.
  9. Yikes. Don't you guys worry about bad sectors? I couldn't sleep at night ahaha
  10. So, I just bought a new 10tb Seagate drive... I've gotten into the habit of running Seagate drives through their variety of tests using "seatools" I run SMART, and short/long generic tests. This new drive I've received is failing the long test, Seatools does have a fix long process... So I'm running that now, but it keeps failing at 30%... I'm thinking about exchanging it. The last Seagate drive I purchased, it had the same issues... I had to exchange one and then do a long fix on the replacement that showed up... but its been working fine for a year now. ___ What does everyone else do to drives before start loading them up with data?
  11. I'd like to see a full caparison between this DIY kit and the glowforge...
  12. I'd rather avoid buying a prebuilt, considering I don't want the case that it comes in... and more than likely will want to put a gt1030 card inside of the unit... Yea, that's what I'm trying to find. I know mini ITX boards fit, but most of them have a 24pin connector instead of a power brick.
  13. I'm wanting to build a tiny PC, just to play old games on. Think atarti 2600 - dreamcast era... I know zotac makes some really cool tiny PC's... but I'm wanting to build my own... I'm having a really hard time searching exclusivity for motherboards with power bricks... Is there a certain form factor I should be looking into? A specific search term? Ultimately I want to have the PC inside a retro console, not 100% on which one yet though. Running Hyperspin. I have all of the usb adapters so I can jam on OEM sticks, those will be incorporated into the case in some fashion. I do have retro pi on a raspberry pi 3b, but it falls apart on a lot of mame and dreamcast titles.
  14. How about this... ask your father if there is anything you can do around the house to earn money? After your school work is completed? Give your maid the day off, good lord. Explain that this isn't a need, its a want and you understand that... and you are willing to earn money doing chores... I am a father, and I love his responses to your texts... Take a different approach, let him know you are wiling to work for the things you want... he might play ball.
