  1. Thanks for the help guys. Good to know that my mobo and psu are not the problem.
  2. So i built my first system this past spring for light gaming and general use: Asus Sabertooth z89 G3258 Corsair RM750 Kraken x41 I bought the cpu with the intention of overclocking so I bought it new and followed Linus' videos and got a stable 4.2 GHz overclock at 1.32V. The high voltage was fine because I was planning on upgrading and the cooler kept it very cool regardless of load. From what I have read that is pretty bad for this cpu but I chalked it up to luck and moved on. This past week I got a good deal on a used i7 4770k on eBay, plugged it in and again found that the overclocking performance was very low. I had what seemed to be a 4GHz at 1.325V overclock stable but after a few hours of gaming it crashed. The seller had used the cpu without overclocking for a few months and was selling to upgrade to Skylake so I am fairly sure he was not just selling because it was a bad overclocker. My question: could something other than the cpu (motherboard or power supply, both of which I spent more money on for quality and future upgrading) be limiting my overclocking capability? Or do I just have bad luck? Thanks!
