  1. That's not a huge issue, just kind of reduces their potential userbase, which is definitely a downside when you're judging those cards as products. Especially that these are not high-end cards. But I'm not sure honestly why the Nvidia or nothing mentality appeared - I've had both, I actually have both right now (6900 XT & RTX 3060 laptop) and I've had problems with both drivers, however since I bought a 6900 XT after ditching my unfulfilled 3080 order in March of last year I've had pretty much no driver issues (actually, many improvements in performance and features were made over that time) and the driver suite actually looks and works much better than the ancient Nvidia Control Panel that hasn't changed since I owned a GTX 660... Note that I don't do content creation and I don't stream, so I'm not aware of any issues in that regard. I've had to reinstall the 3060 Laptop drivers more than any driver I've had so far, so not a great experience with Nvidia this time around. And if you think Intel's drivers will be even remotely as good as Nvidia's or AMD's are right now, you're going to be very disappointed With regards to new Intel Arc GPUs - their problem is that they try competing on value with Nvidia, and in a vacuum that may make sense, but AMD also competes on value and is in a much better position than Arc even with their now almost 2 years old architecture. As I said a 6650 XT is faster than both a 3060 and the A770, and quite a bit cheaper starting from $299 right now. Intel cannot undercut it without losing money on each A770, so this is where my poor opinion on those products comes from.

    Wait, what??? Oh Microsoft...

You're right - I guess the real question that needs to be asked to people is: Are you okay with willingly lowering your living standards in order to help to solve pressing environmental issues like pollution, warming of the climate etc.? The curious thing is that no politician or even scientist straight up asked that question publicly and instead resort to "the world is going to end and we're all gonna die unless you obey us, because we know better" rhetoric
  3. I get your point of view here The 3060s for under $350 are either open-box or refurbs, new ones start from $349 - a slightly faster RX 6650 XT is $299 brand-new, so even the value proposition is questionable in my opinion if anyone was to recommend the Arc cards... But as you said, let's see how pricing & availability settle down and also how much drivers improve over the next few months due to a larger userbase for bug feedback.
  4. You could argue each of the points to some degree, but the question remains - would you really recommend it over the competing products? And if not, could you say they were good products? Because the A770 is priced at $350 MSRP, and you can get a brand-new RX 6700 XT on newegg for $389 and its price is only going to get lower...

    Wait, what??? Oh Microsoft...

Really? I specifically remember testing an all-white background vs an all-black one on my Aorus AD27QD monitor with a Kill-a-watt and I swear the white one drew significantly more... But I see the logic in what you said, it may very well be true in certain situations Well, I mean MS could just do the Windows Update change on their end and tell us about it in a blog-post of some kind, instead of putting information about it in every user's Windows Update tab indefinitely... I'd rhetorically ask which one was it in this instance, but I don't think it's necessary
  6. Well, two things: mainly the overall performance... I'd say they were good products if they launched 3 years ago maybe, right now A770 is still 25% slower than an already fairly old RX 6700 XT. And the other ting is Resizable BAR - it seems like without support for ReBar, the games become unplayable on Arc GPUs due to stuttering issues. And that's only Zen 2 or newer. My general feelings are very mixed - from one point of view you could say it's not that bad actually, but from another would you really recommend these cards over competing 3060s, 3060 Tis, 6600 XTs or 6650 XT? Not to mention both Nvidia and AMD are right in their next-gen launch window, which usually drops prices of previous generations?
  7. So... To sum it up - Fairly low price, surprisingly good RT performance for its tier, but still pretty terrible products overall

    Wait, what??? Oh Microsoft...

Well, I just realize how much power a 14" laptop screen actually requires between let's say 50% and 90% brightness and the savings are truly marginal, to the point where giving a dedicated popup message scolding me for using it on high brightness during the day because of carbon emissions, I just find quite ridiculous. I'm not saying that it doesn't help at all in terms of the environment, but that doesn't make it any less stupid to include a message reminding me of it in every submenu Microsoft could And if the environment is a top priority according to MS, why isn't Windows-wide Dark Mode mandatory? It surely would reduce carbon emissions if the screens didn't need to display a light theme instead of a dark one, so the logic is sound.

Yeah, I just also noticed this on my Zephyrus G14 laptop: And this is getting a little ridiculous... Considering Nvidia is launching 450W TGP cards and nobody cares...

If it's got local dimming and it's enabled then yes that may save a little if there are large enough dark areas without bright stuff in them compared to the LD zone size...

It is virtue signalling / marketing but it's kinda becoming mandatory nowadays.

Yes I find it stupid, but I'm increasingly regularly being astonished at mostly members of younger generations saying "but that's wasteful!" or "but what are X doing to reduce emissions? They should be doing something right?" in general conversation that I'm coming to the conclusion that from a marketing standpoint you don't have a choice anymore, if you want to sell stuff you have to include such BS because the proportion of people asking questions if there isn't is starting to become significant.

Our generations have done a good enough job of brainwashing kids to care about it for us...

My take is that obviously not, that's a lost cause. So what our generations did instead is that they have (either directly or through communication channels, the political messaging you mention, schools etc, possibly without even realizing it) exposed their kids to these questions from the very start so for them it's normal and it will have much more importance in their minds, they will consider that a lot more than we did, and maybe up to considering it more important than living standards. Basically shove the problem down the line and make sure they're gonna take care of it so we can mostly forget about it ourselves. Scaring them with "we're all gonna die" will be a lot more effective on kids.

These kids are getting in the workforce now and they'll be the ones pushing more and more for stuff like this, probably annoying anyone older but in the end "eh if that's all we have to endure to forget about it for the rest of our lives while they do the actual work, no big deal".

      ...but then I'm a bit of a misanthrope 😛

  10. Pretty much my experience. A fix is probably possible (although you'll most likely be forced to fix other things that turn out to not work as well), but not really worth the time, and since OP already wanted to upgrade to Windows 11 this is a perfect time for a clean installation.
  11. You look like you have a corrupted Windows installation, I would suggest just clean installing Windows 11. That should solve all of your problems simultaneously.
  12. I don't think anyone can really know, and I don't think we can believe what Apple says, so really it comes down to who do you "trust" more. Thinking another way, you could also argue that Google may already have your data (from Search, Gmail, YouTube and other services) and that Google being larger, and primarily a software company is harder to "hack" than Apple.
  13. I suppose there are no good solutions here. Are you more comfortable with Apple having your data instead of Google? That's pretty much the only difference realistically speaking... Besides, there's a good chance that Google already has your data so you'd kind of be willingly sharing it with another giant corporation
  14. What about the new Apple Beats stuff? It's more Android-friendly and apparently sounds good too.
  15. In general I agree, though I specifically didn't mention Overdrive settings, as realistically they don't make much of a difference anyway for normal people and they often result in terrible image in motion...
  16. The Noctua is good and should be a lot quieter, however there are cheaper options on the market if you're just looking for a basic cooler. Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 or a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo will be good enough. 5600X will boost clock speeds as high as it can according to voltage and temperature headroom, so you will potentially also increase performance this way.
  17. You can't calibrate it without a proper calibration device like the ones from X-rite. You can try to find an online ICC profile for your monitor made with such device, but remember that each panel is different and it won't be perfect, as it was made to correct certain deficiencies and inaccuracies of a specific unit that was being calibrated. Remember that calibration only impacts color reproduction, it has no impact in gaming use cases. I suggest you play around with the monitor settings instead, to make it look as close to what you're looking for as possible.
  18. This thread is more suitable to be a profile status update. EDIT: As per request - thread remains open, with a slightly modified title that is more generic and understandable.
  19. It pretty much transfers a copy of the packet from one port to another on your router. It has its uses (like network monitoring), but I highly doubt it will be useful to you.
  20. What storage do you currently have in your laptop? What model is it, so we can know what ports are available in terms of format and throughput? Do you need storage, like a NAS for use at home, or something portable to take with you?
  21. If the card is really dead, we can't really be of much help. Please contact the people who handled your RMA request saying that you received a dead GPU, I think that should be your first order of business here. I assume your power supply is enough to support the card.
  22. Could you elaborate more on the problem? Do you mean that your VirtualBox Windows 10 VMs just crash without even BSOD?
  23. Yeah, it's generally better to install the one from ASUS' website, because it's more optimized to work in a switchable graphics environment and should cause fewer problems. Glad your issue is resolved.
