Micro USB is probably the worst port ever designed. My gfs Dad has a Galaxy S6 and they told me that it wasn't turning on anymore. I went to plug it in and the connection was super loose and I didn't feel a "click" after inserting it.

Turns out that the pins in the female end of the port went completely missing!

Had them buy a Qi charger and it works again. The port is just toast. This is an inherent problem for any port which has pins floating in the female end of the port. Say what you will about Lighting, but something like this would never happen to it.

Yeah can't wait for all of my gadgets and devices to be USB C so that I only have to carry one charger in my backpack.

except that crap gets into the lightning port and then it just completely dies like it did on my iPhone 7 and it's started to happen on my 6s, although it's not nearly as bad.

i have an LG G3 from 2014 that was my daily driver for 3 years. it has micro-usb, no problems at all. you just have to be nice to the port. i've seen people hang their phones off the charging cord because the cable wasn't long enough. if you do shit like that to it of course it's gonna die.

arguably Lightning is IMO worse than microusb, because after 3 to 4 years of use so much crap gets in it that you can't get the cable in, because it's just a big hole.

crap gets in every port, including USB-C and all other types. Cleaning your devices is an important part of making them last and keeping them working. If an equal amount of junk got into a Micro USB port as a lightning port, neither would work. That's a fact provable by experiment.

@DrMacintosh why then does my LG that's 6 years old still work, but my iPhone 7 broke completely even though it's 2 years newer?

Your two phones are not an experiment?

no, they are real world examples.

And are effectively anecdotes. Here's one of mine: I've never known anyone in person who has had their lightning port die but I know about 4 people who have had micro-usb phones die because the port failed.
