I wonder if the new Navi architecture can be scaled down for use in laptops. Specifically MacBook Pros. The 15" models have had the same Polaris based graphics and performance since 2016. With only Vega 16 and 20 being added as costly upgrades.

The new 8 core Macbook Pro comes in at $3100 USD when you change nothing but swap the 560x for the Vega 20...

Mind you, for me it would be a little less given I qualify for student pricing, but still... Would the 560x be fine for Final Cut Pro editing? Thats really my only concern.

Yes, the 560X would be fine for editing. The Vega 20 only really shows its performance from 3D workloads.

Given that I don't like any of the CAD software on macOS, and I have recently swapped to cloud based OnShape for CAD, I will keep that in mind and just get the base model 8 core model.

Did anybody ever figure out if the 6 core version was ever thermally "fixed" like the 8 core was? Was it simply a TIM difference? Software?
