Ugh, don't delay backing up your Mac for 10 days. It takes forever to finish the prep when it has to make all kinds of changes T.T

    yeah it takes forever. never mind the first backup when you have 300+gb of stuff on your Mac. i know from experience.

    It goes by faster if you have an SSD, but USB 3.0 HDDs are terribad at random read/writes xD Also Time Machine just does not like to peg the drive with write speed.

    Had a 500GB 5400rpm drive that I cloned out of a Mac once through usb 3.  Just had to walk away and let it go overnight.
