  1. So would I, but he's pretty impatient Just wants to get up and running with current-gen games, highest performance isn't a huge deal
  2. So my friend's upgrading his computer's FX 6300 and R7 260 rig, and he's already getting an RX 480. He's looking for a CPU to replace his 6300. What would you guys recommend? It should be socket-compatible so he doesn't have to get all new hardware. I'm asking because I'm not familiar with AMD's products, being a Blue/Green team player myself.
  3. what about an EVGA SuperNOVA 850 B2?
  4. Takeaway: 650 might work (emphasis on *might*) but I should go up to 850 just to be safe?
  5. I don't particularly need to overclock anyways. Corsair CS650M.
  6. so I have a rig with a 980 Ti and due to circumstances I have some money left over and was thinking of getting a second for SLI my power supply is 650 watts, with rudimentary case lighting and a 6700K, would that support the configuration?
  7. Update!! I have put on some RGB LEDs from CableMod and cleaned up the cable management a great deal. It's almost complete. All that's left to do now is the decals. TBD: Decals!
  8. So a while ago, I made a post regarding the iBUYPOWER Revolt 2, asking which GPU I should get with it. And a lot of you decided to just custom build instead. And originally I was resistant, insisting that I had no interest in building my own computer at the time. But over time... that interest sparked and then grew, until I HAD to have a machine of my own creation in my posession. Ladies, gentlemen, and everyone in between... Dreemurr-One. (Almost.) (oh jeez i need to wipe down the case it's GROSS) As you can see, I went with a Cooler Master Mastercase 5. I wanted to get the Pro 5 but it's nbd, I have the window panel I wanted it for currently on the way. Front panel, ft. foot. This is what my desk looks like rn. Hey look, it's this post! Except it sucks more. It's in the process of being made as I make it! Postception. /bricked (btw, the Mass Effect print at the back was made by my art teacher!! ignore the 2012 A7X meme it was a hARD TIME OKAY) For peripherals, I got a Logitech webcam the name of which escapes me, a Logitech Proteus Spectrum mouse, a Logitech G410 Atlas Spectrum keyboard, a HyperX Fury mousepad, an Asus 1440p monitor (the name of which also escapes me but it's vey'noice, IPS, 144Hz and everything except the kitchen sy--I mean G-Sync.) And then Audio-Technica ATH-M50X cans and an AT2005USB mic. Now for the fun stuff. Interior view ft. thumb! (Oops.) This sucker had almost no expense spared. I got a Z170-A motherboard from ASUS, an i7-6700k kept nice and frosty by a CM Hyper 212 Evo air cooler (may upgrade to an AIO water cooler at some point), an EVGA GTX 980 Ti SC with ACX+, and 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM running in dual-channel. I have a Samsung 850 EVO 240GB SSD for boot and a Seagate 2TB mechanical hard drive for mass storage. All this powered by a Corsair CS650M modular power supply, helpfully advised to me by the very friendly representative at Canada Computers. The cable management is garbage because it's not quite done yet. I have CableMod RGB strips coming in. When they're in I'll be finishing up the cable management. Glamour shots? Glamour shots. (The card is further overclocked by 100MHz after EVGA's factory overclock.) (My thumb is running at stock speeds.) So that's what I did with my April Fool's Day. I built an almost-$5000 CAD gaming PC. Happy late 18th birthday to me. TBD: Finish cable management. Install RGB lights. Undertale-themed paint on the front and side panels. (IF you guys care, and I guess you would, I ran some benchmarks on it!! Here's the results. These are before the further GPU overclock!) Unigine Valley (Extreme HD, 1440p): 2408 GTAV Benchmark (1440p, All at Very High, some advanced graphics turned up): Avg. FPS at 45. Game itself runs enjoyably. 3DMark Fire Strike: 15,529 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme: 7959 AIDA64 Stability Test, 10 minutes: Overall, this computer is the best thing I've built with my own two hands and I'm really proud of it so far. For my very first build it turned out pretty nice!! As for my old computer, I'm giving it to my 12-year-old sister (13 in July). It fits her use-case scenario perfectly and I think she'll like it a lot.
  9. I want an Excalibur V2 because I've been jealous of my brother's board for too long. :v
  10. Ok, let me clear some things up. This money is one part in a gated settlement from an incident when I was a child. This is not the last time I will be able to buy a computer. I have decided, firmly, on the Revolt 2 because I am a personal fan of the design and reviews look promising, and the form factor suits my living space. A lot of these comments are off the topic. I have been informed that the 980 Ti will do better in the circumstances I would be using it in. Therefore, I will be getting that. Done. Topic closed. The people telling me to custom-build, I hear you. Loud and clear. That is what I will be doing for my next big purchase. But for now, this is what's happening. And that $10,000 is for *everything*. Not just the computer. Soundproofing for my room, Unreal/Unity engines, synths and physical instruments/mics, EVERYTHING.
  11. Noted. And I would, but damn, I just can't resist dat case. When I have money again, I will definitely be custom-building.
  12. So I'm coming into a whole bunch of money as of my eighteenth birthday. And over the past while, my plans have changed from a custom build to a pre-configured Best Buy computer, to, currently, a customized pre-built rig. So I was pretty sold on the iBuyPower Revolt 2. Watching Linus's un-build log pretty much secured it for me as I was a huge fan of the design and temperature results shown off. So I go to iBuyPower's website to customize my order and it comes to my attention that I can stick pretty much any current-gen card I want in this thing. Now I have a budget of $10,000 CAD, but I want money for things like recording equipment and programming software for my future plans. And I'm leaning towards the GTX 980 Ti Hybrid that Linus showed off in his video. But I'm not entirely sure on it. Upgrading to a Titan X would be a few hundred dollars more, and I'm just not sure it's worth it. Considering that I want capital left over to start music and programming endeavours (including instruments, software, etc.) would upgrading to a Titan X be worth the extra money, for the increased compute performance that I'd want as a music producer and indie developer? What do you guys think?
  13. ehhh not so much steer clear as be careful lol people will try to make you feel bad about your decisions and junk i will definitely look that up!! thanks for the suggestion
  14. I'm a pretty active member in the community and a lot of it has gotten toxic pretty quick. mostly due to conflict over the two routes of the game. when the community is good, it's very good, but when it's bad, run. just, straight-up run. i wouldn't say it's as bad yet as, say, the ME fandom has gotten in recent days though.
