  1. Hello all. After much conversing and intelligence gathering, I have finally built my first every PC - my ticket to the master race. I went an ITX build because I want to take it to LAN parties, even though many people have voiced their opinion that master race newborns should not dabble with ITXs. Anyhow, here are the parts: CPU: Ryzen R5 1600 Graphics card: ASUS DUAL GTX 1070 O8G RAM: 2x8GB Corsiar Vengeance 3200MHz Storage: 250GB SanDisk Ultra II SSD Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM HDD MOBO: Asrock Fata1ity Gaming/ITX AB350 PSU: Corsair SF450 Case: Silverstone SG13 CPU cooler: Noctua - NH-L9x65 Front intake fan: Noctua NF-F12 PWM Exhaust fan: Fractal design R3 50mm Monitor: LG23MP68VQ Keyboard: TurtleBeach Impact 600 Misc: SFX to ATX power supply adaptor bracket PP08 ASUS SDRW 08D2S-U LITE Tights, 20 Denier Corsair CP-8920190 Sleeved SATA Cable, Red/Black TAAADDAAA~~~ You have no idea how excited and happy I was Of note: Asrock have 'fixed' their VRM heatsink-thermal pad issue: White GPU, Red/Black mobo, Poo-y CPU cooler... Yea, the colour scheme is all wrong and miss matched. But who cares as long as I like it! It's alive!!! Now time to prep the case: I do like Asrock's IO shield: At this point, I thought cable management will be easy. I mean, there is so much room. What's all the fuss about? Errr getting a bit cosy now... Note: I had to get a different Corsair's SATA power cable as the one that came with the PSU aren't flat enough. I do like the red and black, and also the fact that its individually sleeved though. ARGHHH cables everywhere! And why do they have to be so stiff?? This is the best I can manage. Not bad for a first time builder...? And here is the finished product! What's the abomination I hear you ask? Well. . . . . . . . . . I used lady's tights as dust filter, and it is SO hard to get right. It ended up looking like this form the inside: Yea... Next up will be benchmarks and my attempts at OC! Thanks for reading!

First time ever build - Ryzen mITX - Abomination inside.

Thanks man! I got a bit OCD doing the cables.

The whole setup costs £1400. Inc. all peripherals. It does look like you need an upgrade.

Otherwise, yea 550W seems like a reasonable choice.

  6. Good luck getting the RX580 in reasonable time. But if you don't mind waiting, pre-order the £219 Sapphire pulse one from amazon - it's at a very good price. Otherwise, get a 1070. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EVGA-GeForce-GTX-1070-SC-ACX-3-0-Black-Edition-8GB-GDDR5-VR-Ready-Graphics-Card-/132327855431?epid=1582910066&hash=item1ecf5ad547:g:~4sAAOSwtRBZuTsk
  7. As the title suggests, have I applied enough thermal paste?

URGENT: Is this enough thermal paste?

Thank you all for your help. I guess I'll know if I've done a good job when I finish assembly and benchmark it! Please look out for my post!

Rumor: Asus prepares Strix ITX mobos for AM4 socket

Yea they fixed that. The new batch had a thinner thermal pad

When do you guys think that GPU prices will come down?

I've been holding off for 2.5 months to buy the RX 580. Contacted Sapphire and Gigabyte in late August ,and both had 'no idea' when they can finishing meeting the demand of miners and get enough cards onto the market. The Sapphire rep said: "We need to be patient, the production is scaling and the throughput of GPU factories is growing. We're not there yet, but it's getting a tiny bit better. There's hope!" I eventually gave in and got the GTX 1070 - slightly inflated in price, but a) I get a card, so my other parts don't need to lay around anymore, and b) it's more 'future proof', and most importantly c) they are in bloody stock.

    Looking for a new gpu

Im guessing for gaming? What's the rest of your build like? i.e. CPU, PSU, monitor.

    Aesthetics vs functionality

Apologies for dwelling on this matter. Your opinions are appreciated. I have decided to blow my budget and get the GTX 1070. I am considering two models that are at similarly ‘low’ prices (~£400): Asus GTX 1070 Dual OC EVGA GTX 1070 SC Gaming Black Edition ACX 3.0 I really do not like EVGA’s exterior design, so in the looks department, I’m more incline to get the ASUS. ASUS also has 6 phases, compared to EVGA’s 4. It is also SLIGHTLY higher OC’ed. However, EVGA do have (much?) better cooling, and this model is ‘more reputable’. What do you guys think? How much did the aesthetics of parts influence your build?

What would you do in my position?

So, in July I bought everything for my build except for the graphics card. I was under the impression that GPU stocks and prices will return to normal around now, and was planning to get the RX 580 Nitro+. However I've contacted Sapphire and they said that they have no idea when the market situation will return to normal, or when stocks will become wildly available. I think that it is a huge waste to have parts sitting around for more months to come. I am thinking of dropping my target and go for the RX 560, which seems unaffected by the market situation. I did toy with the idea of getting a GTX 1070, but I'll give up freesync and will blow my budget at their current market prices. What is a first time builder to do? As further consideration my build consists of: Ryzen 1600 Asrock AB350 ITX Corsair SF450 LG 23MP68VQ monitor - freesync and @75Hz - 1080p Edit: I also wish to consider the re-selling value of whatever I end up with. Or should I just forget that... Edit edit: I am using this build for photo editing and also play games, such as Fallout 4, Mass Effect, Doom, i.e. all the recent amazing games I've been missing out on with my ageing laptop.

What would you do in my position?

There aren't any cheap second hand GTX 970 in the UK. Or rather I refuse to pay £170+ for a 2 year old warranty expired card that originally cost £240 Looks like I'll go for the 1070. I've found a Superclocked black edition of it for £408, and is new. Is that a good deal? Will my PSU handle the system? (i think it will, but would like a second opinion.)

    Hey now
  17. jeffery7466

What would you do in my position?

How does it compare to the RX 560? Good point Which GPU did you buy? Do you have one you would recommend? It needs to be less than 266mm or 10.5"

    Is honey vegan?

@Sauron @Supermangik One thing I would say is that diets are heavily influenced by our respective culture, which in term is very much like an ideology.

About the "solar panels around the sun" video...

One problem with the heat sink and heat pipes: The sun will definitely heat it up, so overall heat transfer may be back to Earth. Unless the construct can somehow be constantly on the dark side.

    Discolouration of thermal compound

Hi people, So I received my spanking new Ryzen 1600, and, of course, the Wraith Spire cooler came with it. The pre-applied cooling compound appeared yellow -brownish (see attached). Is this normal? I contacted the seller and they claimed "Thats oil within the paste that settles. This is normal and what the paste is made up of." What's your take on this? EDIT: picture failed to attach the first time round.
