  1. One hundred percent. I am in my very early 20s if you couldn't tell lol but I have been building since I was 10. Haven't used anything other than a seasonic unit, except for maybe an Antec VP-450 here and there, which by the way, were also PERFECTLY FINE even with i7s, ssds, systems full of ram, and a mid-tier gpu (at the time i am referring to a high end GTX 750 Ti or GTX 950). I wonder if this is being actually monitored by anyone legitimately at LTT or if it's just a bunch of forum dudes.
  2. You're "seriously concerned with my 5v rail" with 3 ssds and an rgb lighting kit? Do you not know that an SSD takes maybe 2w of power over a time period of an hour? That's 6 watts for all of my SSDs, and maybe an additional 10w for all the rgb lighting, which I highly doubt anyways. Nobody cares if it is a nine year old platform. 12V undervoltage protection and group regulation are also just excuses to tier down, as I would say a majority of PC gamers that are affluent enough to do their own builds actually live in an area with decent power. If not, get a UPS, which you should have already if you live with dirty or spotty power. To be clear, I did not directly attack you as far as the tearing down due to simple things like fan bearings or wiring. I read several posts of multiple people claiming "they said they tiered down the unit due to X" which could be hearsay but judging by the fact that you consider a M12II / S12II as barely a "prebuilt replacement" we can kind of tell the level of pettiness on why actually decent, relatively inexpensive power supplies are being pushed down to a "prebuilt replacement" level. There are prebuilts and even "custom builds" out there with Diablotek, Apevia, and many other truly garbage power supplies out there. To say a M12II is a direct replacement for a prebuilt or crappy custom build's power supply is just plain ignorant. It's time for a restructure
  3. I cannot believe the sheer amount of disrespect y'all are putting on the Seasonic S12 / M12 series. I have used them exclusively for years now building PC's and have had 0 issues. My most recent build had a M12II Evo 520W powering an i9-9900k, a 1080 ti, 3 ssds, 5 fans, rgb led lighting strips, etc. just fine with absolutely no issues. I have multiple friends with similar builds and the same PSU with no issues. I have built several machines with these power supplies during my previous time of employment at a computer repair shop. 0 issues. I've had nothing bad to say about their power supplies whatsoever. /rant But seriously, downgrading PSU's entire tiers because of a fan bearing type or type of internal cabling or external cabling is just plain moronic. It's showing new PC builders that you need to have a $100+ power supply to get your computer powered effectively. Which is simply not true. I'm not an engineer but damn it when I use a product and its been good to me time and time again, I will continue to use and even recommend the product.
  4. there's so many things wrong with this you seriously think an adapter cable is going to let you run at full 144hz??? LOL get a real DVI-D or Displayport cable.
  5. So basically you're telling me go with an AMD card. I am VERY IMPRESSED by AMD's new Crimson drivers (limit fps to 31, yay!) and I will be sticking with an amd card for my new build (hoping to get a 380x)
  6. So what Im hearing is i could be fine with just a 250gb samsung 850 evo and I don't need the pro, correct? Is Samsung trying to false advetise with rapid mode? It seems like in every benchmark with rapid its reading ridiculous #s like 10gbs, etc. I feel like samsung put it in the firmware somehow so it would read ridiculous speeds.
  7. This whole "unlocking" to a 390x has been performed on only asus strix cards in certain batches because it was released that they were using lower binned 390x chips in that one batch of 390s because there were no more 390 chips that held their standards. Just as when people in 2007 were unlocking sempron 145's to athlon ii x2 360s i believe it was and they were able to overclock to the stock speed (3.2ghz) of the athlon ii x2. Very few people saw actual real world benefit, it was more of a fake software thing. A few people have been able to unlock to the 390x
  8. I saw this drive when it was $199. Also, to the one that just replied, if you think the Samsung 850 pro doesn't have significant performance increases over its counterparts then you must be sleeping under a rock. With rapid mode on, the 850 pro can achieve transfer writes of up to 4.5gb/s (4500mbps) and beyond as well as write speeds in the neighborhood of 3.2gb/s (3200mb/s) and above. I'm going to have to go with the $125 Toshiba 4tb drive as my 3.5" now I'm just wondering to get the 850 pro and is it worth it in terms of longevity (I'm not upgrading for 5+ years)
  9. Thanks guys, I've taken apart a few laptops and they were a bitch to put back together so I'm hoping this isn't nearly as hard.
  10. OK Guys so I have a total of $250 to spend on a storage solution for my new PC. Keep in mind once I buy this storage, I will not be upgrading drives (256 to 512, etc) and only have room for one 2.5" and a 3.5" I came from a core 2 duo system so I'm expecting a "wow" factor, (some of the reason why I'm getting a 6700k, 16gb of ddr4 and a r9 fury nano) and I think the 512gb 850 pro will provide just that. But here are some of my worries 1) I will run out of storage (highly unlikely) - I currently use about 160gb of 232gb of my current 250gb hard drive with all of my games installed, however, with this new build I will be installing autodesk suites and adobe suites, and a few more 50gb+ games. I am not a storage nazi, as in I usually don't keep pictures or documents on a drive. 2) WBF - Writes before failiure - if I add a 4tb toshiba drive (128mb cache / 7200rpm) I would completely reinstall windows and all programs in order to switch over to the new storage situation. This will take hundreds of thousands of write cycles and I don't want degridation of my new drive. Should I go for the 850 pro and then wait to buy the 4tb once I have the cash, while keeping the system not running or should I install on the 850, continue to use the system and then add the 4tb? 3) SPEED - I could go with a adata 240gb + 4tb toshiba setup for the same price as the 850 pro 512gb alone but could this mean I am sacraficing quality of speed from new technologies? Just a thought
  11. I'm looking to revive one of my older Xbox 360 controllers for use on my Windows PC with a wireless dongle. Anyways, I found this blue complete kit that I believe would match well with my new Logitech G430 blue headset and cooler master storm devastator blue keyboard and mouse. I also have a blue mousepad to go along with the blue peripheral theme. How difficult would it be to put the current controller components into the shell? I have built many computers and swapping little components is of little issue to me. XBOX 360 Controller Shell+Buttons
  12. that's not true at all. $32 will get you an EVGA 430w B1 80+ bronze certified PSU with an 8 pin pcie which supports a 380x. Your total would be around $260
  13. I meant to put performance/watt Wow I'm dumb lol The fury nano I think would be the best choice. While it's not cost effective at all, I can see dropping $500 on a card that's going to last me a very long time at high settings for my 1080p gaming. Coupled with putting it in a matx mini tower (n200) I will have amazing temps (right now it has 5 fans in it, and I will be getting a low profile noctua cpu cooler) and I won't have to ditch my brand new power supply.
  14. I asked for a single 8 pin gpu. I didn't specify budget. I don't want a freaking jet engine in my tower much less one that is designed to run @ 95C As I said the fury nano costs $530 and I can spend that if it's truly going to "future-proof" as in like 4 years down the road still max @ 1080p
  15. 380x is the cheapest although will it max current titles @ 1080? Also the 380x doesn't have the whole 3.5+.5 ram issue so I actually get full 4gb
