  1. Oh, I tried to install games on my NAS a few years back and that didn't work. I guess things have changed.
  2. I don't think you can install steam games on another PC/server. Steam will only allow you to install games to local storage mediums.
  3. Any Branded One will do. Don't get a power supply from a Brand you don't know (or doesn't have a brand).
  4. First it will display the BIOS flash screen (which happens on every computer at boot) then it will say 'No Operating system found' or something. So you will have to force your way into the BIOS using the hotkey like at any other boot. It isn't that difficult, once you get your PC it is so obvious.
  5. I was forced to destroy one of my hard drives and laptop after I did 'hacking' at school (browsing around the servers cause our 'Directer of IT' is is fail) and Then they found school stuff (fricking serial numbers and installers - like ZERO important data) and some nice videos that had found their way onto it aswell.
  6. Put the USB in before booting up the computer. Then go into the 'boot menu' and select your USB flash drive. If there is no 'boot menu' edit the boot order in the BIOS and then boot up from the USB Have to have all the devices plugged in BEFORE booting up the PC otherwise the BIOS will not detect it.
  7. I got my NAS really cheap second hand. I got a Noontec N5 with a 1TB Hard Drive for £50 ($85) which has a samba, FTP and a web interface. Upto 20 accounts and set the permissions for each account. also it has a built in Bit Torrent Client for downloading Torrents. So if I was you I would have a search around even for second hand ones as they are just as good and a lot cheaper.
  8. I used to use a cloud (google drive) and change that to my personal folders via the reg edit (I made a blog post on this on my very very old blog http://tomsnewtech.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/how-to-base-your-windows-user-on-google.html) I then switched to using a file share on a computer. Then I switched to Bit Torrent Sync - NAS without a server. Now I use both a NAS I bought and dropbox. I use my dropbox for documents. and I store movies, software(install files), music on my NAS. My NAS can be accessed over the internet (http://jervi.uk:8088) so it acts like a cloud aswell (it also supports samba and FTP). I would recommend you use a cloud based system such as dropbox (much faster than Google drive) for your collage work as having fast access to files is important everywhere. My blog post can be used for dropbox aswell.
  9. Just delete the partition and create a new one for the install. Don't bother formatting them as that could reduce the life of the SSD.
  10. I am guessing the bits you need access to are file shares? if so do the following; Find out the name of the server on the LAN, this will be something like \\SERVER_NAME or \\192.168.1.123 Find out the share name, this will be something like \\SERVER_NAME\share$ Go to my computer on your computer. Click on 'Map network Drive' Drive letter change that to what ever you want, I recommend 'H' for personal files (H = home) and 'S' for shared files Then for the address put the server name and share like '\\SERVER_NAME\share$' check 'reconnect at login' and then click next. Now click on that drive, it will ask you to enter your login details, for username put 'Username@Server_NAME' and your password. That should do it. If that doesn't work ask someone at your office. This will only work when attached to the LAN.
  11. intel are more expensive than AMD for similar cores/speeds because intel's technology is more advanced, its not all about the amount of cores and the speeds, it is how you use it. If I was you, I would go on gumtree and get a super cheap but decent PC for £150 and then buy a 970 or 960. Second hand PCs are super cheap for what they are.
  12. Yes... what do you think a server requires? All you need is a good CPU (quadcore) and over 2 GBs of RAM. - no need for any GPU at all.
  13. I would suggest a 960. Also congrats on getting a master race woman. - difficult to find one.
