I really want to upgrade my Sony Z4 Tablet. The only problem is that I want a 16:10 or 3:2 tablet.
Seems like my options this year will be:
Galaxy Tab 4 - The issue is that it uses a Snapdragon 835. It's not bad, but why would they put last year's SoC in a brand new product? At least it seems like they have gone back to a 2560x1600 resolution.
Huawei MediaPad M5 - Weak GPU and no headphone jack.
Why do companies suck at making Android tablets so much?

I suspect its probably something to do with how apart from iPads, the demand for a pure tablet is actually quite low. Unlike a windows powered 2 in 1, they can't become a laptop replacement while high-end android tablets (such as the Tab 4) costs an arm and a leg which considering you can buy a skylake powered tablet-based 2 in 1 for a similar amount of money, it probably makes them not super appealing.

I get your point, and how the OEMs are thinking, but I think x86 tablets running Windows is a completely different category of devices.
I just want an OEM to release a serious Android tablet. Surely it can't be that hard, and they are already spending quite a lot of money developing these new ones. Why do it half-assed?

I have a feeling its down to how android tablets are actually quite a niche product. Android tablets are entertainment focused and with many phones having a 6"~ display, 7" and 8" tablets are kinda pointless. Then we have the 10" tablets which are generally high-end and are expensive. This probably results in low volumes which means little incentive to spend more on R&D, especially if it means less R&D dosh on more profitable departments like phones.
I mean ask yourself how many times have you seen a high end android tablet? (excluding the one you own and seeing them at a retail shop) I suspect its not very many. I, for one don't think I've actually ever seen a high-end android tablet.
