  1. LOL. My exact relationship with this build. It's sort of everything that I cringed having done in the past just updated and way cleaner looking. Pc parts have come quite a ways in quality and aesthetics since my lga 775 build that I'm sort of trying to mimic.
  2. From what I've seen it can be a bit of a crap shoot when it comes to coil whine in psus. I've had same models units that one is dead silent and another whines like crazy. The most recent I can think of were from Evgas g1 series 1 whined like crazy and the other made no noise at all while running in the same system. I currently have an axi and it's dead silent but I've read about a few people dealing with whine from them as well. That being said even with coil whine other than it being annoying it doesn't seem to have any affect on longevity. I have an original 750w silencer from Pc Power & Cooling in a system that pulls close to 600w. That psu whines like crazy and has since I bought it almost 10 years ago and I've yet to have any issues with it as far as performance is concerned.
  3. The Fluid gaming kit will probably perform a tad better at a lower noise level. The main thing you're gaining with the ek loop is a better pump (it's probably the 3.2 ddc that they throw in most of the low end kits) and the vardar fans are probably better built and designed fans. As someone who's spent a small fortune over the years on cooling parts the fluid gaming kit could be a dangerous gateway drug into custom water cooling which could be good or bad. But overall: Performance will probably be within a couple degrees of each other for cooling just a cpu. (although the kit will have the potential to be a bit quieter) The aio will be probably half the price? The aio will require less maintenance. (no cleaning blocks, yearly fluid change/maintenance, dealing with plasticizer, corrosion, ect. ect. that come with a loop) It's honestly a crap shoot on longevity. I know a couple people still running aios they originally put on their 9-10 year old x58 platform and people that have had high end pumps die on them after a couple years and vice versa. I will have to say that I've had great service any time I've had to contact EK for anything which is more than I can say for a lot of companies out there so there's that. In my eyes it sort of comes down to what you feel like messing with and the look you're going for to be honest. I can tell you from being one and knowing quite a few "water cooling enthusiasts" We don't build custom loops because it's the best bang for your buck. It's more just another hobby for your hobby. Spending $1500 to lower temps 5 degrees over what a couple hundred in aios or air coolers can do is not something you do for many practical reasons. (but we still do it)
  4. I had spending problem for a while. Followed by a long diet of peanut butter sandwiches. Lol. Thanks though! I’ve definately had a love/hate relationship with the 303. It’s a fun case to build in and build very well but has some odd quirks. It does feel like with all the soft tubing and bright colors going on it should be in some big ugly gamer style case as well. At the moment though I’m pretty happy with how it came out.
  5. So... I got bored and had a couple extra parts lying around. Seeing all the new trends of big glass side windows and UV coming back on the market a little bit I started getting flashbacks to the days of big acrylic boxes filled with UV cathodes. So that’s where I started. For the system I started with a 303 from Inwin. I thought it was an interesting layout and I’ve been digging cases that have been trying new ways to hide power supplies. Plus for the size there’s a good amount of cooling potential without making it look like too much of a cluster. For parts: - 5960x - Asus X99 Deluxe - AMD R9 fury X - 16GB CORSAIR Dominator Platinum ddr4 - Power supply is tbd - storage- 3 500gb ssds of varying brands - Cable mod rgb/UV led kit Cooling: - EKWB Supremacy csq full nickel cpu block - EKWB Fury X block acetal / backplate - EKWB 140 D5 revo pump/res combo - EKWB PE 360 radiator - EKWB XE 360 radiator - lots of random nickel fittings from ek - Vardar f3 fans throughout except the CORSAIR af120 in the back of the case - Primochill lrt tubing 3/8 x 5/8 - Primochill bright UV orange anti-kink coils - Primochill UV electric blue coolant with some intensifier in it. The power supply is tbd due to the ax860i that I bought for this causing some huge instability issues and random crashes/boot loops. It’s currently running a nearly 10 year old pc power and cooling silencer I borrowed from my old x58 build that’s still going strong. (Kudos pc power and cooling) That will probably get switched out this weekend when I get a chance to go exchange it. Anyway here she is in close to her final form.
  6. Most of us have no way of knowing when the mining bubble is going to pop. But for most current sli/cf configurations with a mild to fairly aggressive overclock you’ll be fine with a good efficient 850w psu. 850w power supplies are a bit more available at the moment. Unless you’re looking to go 3/4 way cf or next generation cards are trash when it comes to efficiency (highly unlikely) you’ll be fine. I have a couple systems running currently. The first is a 5820k@4.5ghz running 2 way 980 ti sli typically peaks around 700w. The second is a 5960x@4.6ghz with a fury x it hits about 500w. Both are running pretty good size loops (pumps/lots of fans). Just to give you an idea of typical power consumption.
  7. Card pricing and availability is nuts where I’m at in the states as well. There are 3 microcenters within 1-2hours of where I’m at. The best any of them have at the moment is a gtx 1060 running about $370 for the cheapest 3gb model they have. I’ve also been scoping out online. Prices for a non-ti Evga gtx 1080 today on amazon jumped from $540 this morning to $744 as of right now. Lol. looks like I’ll be waiting on my upgrade as well.
  8. The best thing you can do if you're concerned with size is try to find somewhere that has some display models or buy a couple with a good return policy. I know some people with small hands that love larger mice. Personally I use a few different styles of mice and it does't really affect me. The Zowie fk1, which for the most part is my daily driver, feels pretty small to me. The G303 is also on the smaller side. They're both great mice.
  9. What are you running as your bclk? Most newer boards are able to push bclk decently but you have to keep an eye on a few other things like memory clock speeds and timings, pcie clocks and watch voltages carefully. I'd honestly set your memory to 2400mhz (what the 6800k is technically rated for) Set bclk to 100 and increase the cpu clock multiplier. See if you're still getting issues while increasing the multiplier not baseclock. That will give you an idea if its something going on with memory, pcie, or anything else directly affected by bclk.
  10. Yeah you won't see much difference unless your running both working with multiple huge files in Photoshop and have a bunch of tabs running in a web browser. You'll be a little snappier maybe in PS at least it felt like it to me but the actual difference was negligible. I actually opened up a project slightly under 300mb in PS CC and exported it. I was sitting at about 7GB usage with one tab open in Chrome. That was a stitched image in Photoshop consisting of around 10-15 shot so fairly large.
  11. I'd suggest as big of a pain as it seems to start at stock and work up with your O.C. It really is helpful for more reasons than you might think. Basically it gives you a good Idea of what your chip is really capable of. You'll typically run into a spot where your voltages will need to be bumped higher and your temperature will increase significantly. That's a very helpful thing to know. Like I said it may be a pain in the ass but it's well worth the couple of hours for something you threw that much money into.
  12. Yeah, It depends on the board whether it will work or if you need to update bios or add microcode. But it doesn't matter whether it's 32nm or 45nm.
  13. That's still low. You don't have any recording or any resource heavy applications like that running in the background do you? Maybe try to disable Game DVR? Open the XBOX tile under the start menu and go to settings>Game DVR and turn the slider to "off".

  15. Hmmm. Everything looks like it's running like it should. That is pretty confusing. Overwatch should be pushing 100-120fps on ultra on that setup. I can't speak as much for minecraft. I've run a 6300 with a gtx 970 and that's about what we were getting with Overwatch with no stuttering like that. It has to be something in the OS or a pci-e lane jumping to gen 1 or something random like that.
