  1. in my experience ive never needed to cool my hard disks ive never seen my WD black go above 30C unless the temp sensor is broke but ive never needed to cool my drives. i can see why people do cool theirs as if you had like 3/4 stacked on top of each other there is not much room for air circulation.
  2. i know once my friend formatted his dads 3TB external hard disk because he wanted to change the file format but didn't realize that format means to wipe the drive, his dad wasn't to pleased to say the least...oops :P
  3. 1. My idea of decorating my room is nailing up old motherboards and graphics cards oh and RAM :D 2. Not a day goes by where my PC case isnt opened (for some apparent reason) 3. And my room is littered with PC components and cables maybe its just me ;)
  4. have not got round to checking the temps yet but I've seen other people doing this (more professionally of course) and it dramatically dropped the temps of the card. anyone know if there is anywhere I can get a new shroud? I guess it would be cheaper to buy a new card but still this will do for now :P
  5. MODS: Feel free to move if not in right the place
  6. So the story behind this is basically i lent this card out to one of my lesser (tech savy) friend and he found that it was running quite hot (as this card always did) so he instinctively thought to take off the plastic shroud which helps dissipate the heat over the GPU core and out the back of the card, as the blower style cards do. so after a few days he noticed the card ran even hotter than before as in he couldn't even play a game of LOL with out his system crashing but he thought nothing of it and soon replaced the card with a 9800gt (pic below). he then later returned this card to me and tried to explain his whole problem to me, i explained that it was a blower fan and needed the shroud for the most effective cooling and his face then dropped as he told me he threw the plastic shroud away. so in my desperate want to keep this card alive as to me its a legacy card and was probably the best card of 2006, and to this day can still play most games on medium settings thus why i want to keep it alive. i then come up with a genius idea to then get an old intel stock heat sink or paperweight as i call them and rip out the pwm fan and some how mount it to the card where the GPU core was so i continued to tinker and play around with the fan, and then i noticed that it has 4 clips each corner of the fan to hold in the paper weight heat sink so i thought that if used them clips to mount it the the 8800gts it would make a perfect fan mod for the card. 7. ive tried that i tried asking for 120GB 840 ssd which was the same price as the agility 3 at the time i bought it but they refused and i read all the terms and conditions and i can only have money back if its resell-able or within a 7 day "grace period" and they replace the drive at their discretion. so i have no say in the matter, i may just sell that drive and then buy and 840 pro :D
  8. I'd probably have to say firefall even though its still in beta testing (open beta) but man i love that game id hate to imagine the hours I've sunk into it
  9. so I recently sent my failed agility 3 drive back as it was under a 2 year warrenty and they tested it and confirmed it as faulty so they have told me this is the replacement drive they will be sending me as they no longer stock agility 3 drives, and I just wanted to know what you guys think about this drive http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/60GB+Intenso+Premium+2.5%22+SATA+6GB%2Fs+%28SATA-III%29+Solid+State+Drive+?productId=54450
  10. could try re-thermal pasting and re-seating the gpu heat sink to see if there was an issue with the way it was seated. depends on how confident you are with stuff like that. also you could try undervolting the gpu slightly to see if that helps other than that my only suggestions would be what the other guys said... hope this helps :)
  11. thats what makes it so ridiculous had to take a part a £220 card just to find it was a sticker causing the issue
  12. Nvidia 6600gt (gave away and is still in use i believe) Nvidia 450gts (spare just lying around going in my server build) Nvidia 8800gts (in a friends machine... i miss that card) AMD 7770 (regret this buy due to almost no use in linux) my next card is going to be a Nvidia 660ti as their cards and drivers are pretty good on both windows and linux never going to buy an amd card again as trying to get their drivers to work as intended (duel monitors) in linux was a complete waste of time and a friend with a 7950 had all the same issues i had... if anyone has any information regarding a way around this issue please share haha
  13. Hello all Just wanted to warn you all of an epic fail I recently encountered when buying my 660ti. It arrived, and when I got it I span the fan manually and it was making an awful whining sound. After about 2-3 minutes a friend notices there appears to be a sticker inside touching the fan slightly, which was probably what was making the noise. At this point, we decided to open the card up and have a look inside - This is what we found. (This is the sticker, the Backing bit hadn't even been peeled off. That was just a loose sticker. INSIDE the card.)
  14. how much would the shipping to the u.k be? i have a feeling it will be alot haha
