  1. My roommate ordered a QCK heavy that was on backorder. It took NCIX a couple weeks before they shipped out, and there was no extra charge applied. It really depends on who you buy from though. Expect to wait up to a couple weeks for a backorder. EDIT: They do charge at checkout.
  2. Never thought of that. I'll look into it when I get the hard drive.
  3. So pretty much invest in aftermarket cooling for the future? I mean, I heard the stock coolers were bad, but even my roommate's i5 4690k was running about 5C cooler on the stock cooler, so I was just wondering.
  4. I just put together my first computer, and I booted into the BIOS since I don't have my hard drive yet. After letting my i3 4170 rest in the BIOS for a bit, I noticed that the temps would sit around 45C. I highly doubt that this is normal, even with the stock cooler that I'm using. I double-checked all the pins, and they're all fully seated. The fan can spin freely (for better or for worse; I can see why people opt for aftermarket coolers for their silence). Should I try to replace the thermal paste, or is there another issue I've been overlooking? Or am I just overreacting? Any insight is helpful. Thanks in advance.
  5. My girlfriend's PS4 died due to a power outage recently, and I told her she could get a pc about the same price as a PS4 but without all the paid multiplayer, etc., etc. She seems really into the idea, but she wants a direct replacement. We're talking couch and tv, full controller support, the whole shabang. What sort of parts should I be looking into? Here's what you need to know. -She lives in Texas, (ambient temperature about 72F in the particular room) so I'm assuming cooling is gonna be an issue (I live in Canada) -She wants something that can sit by her tv, so I'm thinking mini-ITX or mATX -We're both a little tight on money, so something around the same price point as a PS4 but can perform the same if not better -She plays a few fps games (namely CoD), MK, racing games, and the Batman: Arkham games. This is kinda where my (admittedly short) knowledge of PCs end. How do I make a PC that has full controller support? Would SteamOS be a viable option? Or is there a way to make Steam boot into Big Picture mode? Thanks in advance for putting up with all my questions and helping me out.
  6. So I just came back from doing what I should've done in the first place: checked the (online) manual. And the manual does say all I have to do is pull. I guess I'm just super weak. lol Thanks for the help, though.
  7. I took a quick peek, and I saw a couple things. One is the normal clips that hold it in, the ones that allow the front panel to be removed. The second thing I noticed is presumably a rivet. There are a few of them on either side, and I included a picture of one. When I move the front panel, it moves too, so I'm thinking it's attached, but that just raises more questions. EDIT: by few, I meant there are 2 on each side. EDIT 2: After being able to pull off the front panel, I discover that these are not rivets, but just posts for alignment.
  8. I just got my Corsair SPEC-02 in the mail, and I'm super excited about it. I opened it up to get a little familiar with it, but I seem to have run into a small issue: I can't seem to pull off the front panel. Corsair didn't include a cutout for a hand, but they included a small plastic tab for you to grip on to. Am I not pulling hard enough? Is it riveted on? If someone (who maybe has experience with this case) could give me an answer, that would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to imagine trying to clean it. Thanks in advance.
  9. Thanks again for the help, guys.
  10. So I made a discovery. If I have my laptop shut and outputting to my external monitor, I get around 5 Mbps. However, with my laptop open, I get between 15-20 Mbps. I still get connection issues every once in a while, but I thought that was peculiar.
  11. I did a little bit of looking around, and I think this unit is good for the money. Thoughts?
  12. So something like this? Or maybe this? I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for in terms of networking, what's useful and what's just marketing. lol
