  1. Abstract: After 2 bsod's and 10yrs of service PC refuses to boot with 2 ram sticks, tries to boot restarts and goes to 100% fan stuck there, individual Memtest86 passed, acceptance of ram sticks seems random. Functional ram slots seems random. Next steps? Not afraid to go into component level repair Context: This PC has been with me for 10 years and the components show it i5-4690k regularly overclocked to (44/43/42/42) Z97-C Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600 MHz 2x4gb Corsair cx750m power supply Corsair H60 2nd gen Zotac GTX 960 amp! 2 Toshiba drives 1 WD blue nvme ssd 1 Kinston ssd it saw me through School, university and has traveled with me more than 6k Km. Although buying another one at this point is the best bang for the buck, i refuse to let it die. even if i have to Theseus its components. Component level repair has been done before in the PSU, and in the motherboard. (described later) so not afraid to take a project and dive into the weeds of it. project car, project PC) Previous problems: The last year it has shown signs that the certain pairs of ram slots would not work together, i settled to use A2 and B2). This has not been solved. Also the desktop has sporadically shown a matrix of dots as a back-screen, not properly rendering the images. Not solved nor diagnosed While tinkering 8 yrs ago I shorted 12v though a Molex connector this damaged the PSU, the integrated the USBs, Ethernet, and Audio A skilled Dell technician friend of the family managed to let it boot again, and let it work partially. add on cards were used to circumvent the non functional io 3 years ago i managed to "fix" the Ethernet and USB by removing the ESD protection diodes in the motherboard, i have the board views for a Z97-E that is similar in every thing except the audio circuitry. Current problem: After my last move, the computer arrived complete and functional, no funky business seemed to appear, at least 5 continuous days as a htpc. while tinkering i activated in bios the option turbo performance for boot performance mode yesterday while watching a torrented film, a IRQL_not_less_or_equal BSOD stopped the movie A few minutes later in the same scene of the movie, a Error: KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED BSOD stopped the movie. I don't quite remember what happened next, but i believe that i considered the previous problems i jumped to seating the ram, afterwards, it tried to boot and immediately restarted just to try again and get stuck at a 100% fan not getting the post. Either stick in slots A1, A2 and B1 work if you disconnect power, and the cmos bat. XMP works correctly and is reasonably stable only with slot A2 Both ram sticks pass the memtest86 with notes about high frequency row hammer bit flips If a ram stick is connected to slot B2, that stick will not work for a while. (walked my dog for 1 hr) and came back to successful boot in slot A2 I'm not sure if its a damaged Ram stick, and unstable PSU, damaged motherboard(what specific region or trace?) I'm evaluating changing the psu, since in case i have to declare it the whole system defuct, i could carry it to new system. but to be honest, id prefer to keep it original. any recomendations on next actions? maybe i missed troubleshooting steps? Thank you for your help!
  2. definitely you did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT3mCybbhf0 that one is a personal favorite, hope you enjoy it
  3. thanks so until now i've learned that all NP300e4_ share motherboards therefore i bios chips, the motherboard is called (Scala 3 14crv) this page has some chips with the bios for sale, in case someone is looking to fix one of this samsung's laptops, ill see if i can get my hands in the files for this chip in the editing, it seems like has a lot to come i must learn to do it, but i guess it doesn't harm no learn
  4. no unfortunately, the Phlash16 service tells me that it fails to recognice the certificate, im seeing to maybe adapt it and install them, since ive obtained them from the MDL forum, i just hope i can fix it,
  5. thanks for the info, i didn't know that, am gonna try the file that kb5zue sent , either way i think what i was thinking of was a bit complicated, but i hadnt found any other alternative
  6. thanks, i'll try it, my ram was running out of how many pages i was browsing already ill comeback with news
  7. i do understand that, but theoretically could you reverse engineer it to see what path it follows and then somehow give them the file or parameters it expects, so the the program thinks that it is running in the damaged laptop so i can then use it?
  8. id like to believe that if i fool the program by thinking that is running in that machine it would by its self download the file, then i could sand box the app so i can copy the file afterwards, would it be posible?
  9. because is a downloader program, not the real bios, it's like a manager for the download, it detects what computer you have and downloads the respective bios
  10. So i accidentally bricked the bios of a samsung laptop, while installing ubuntu, a playing around with grub and the terminal in the ubuntu installer, afterwards i first found a utility of Phoenix that would let me create a bootable drive to fix the Bios, great, but there seems that no one has uploaded the Bios for this model to the internet, but there exist this utility that lets you update the program from the functioning machine, the only catch is that the computer can boot, could you any of you help me crack this exe so i can fool it in to downloading the Bios from Samsung's servers, the model is NP300E4X-T01CL (diferent of the page, but the software is universal) i tried to speak to a help service from samsung and they said that they can't give the file, and i must bring them the machine, but the nearest center is in the other side of the country, and the same file can be downloaded by that app, to the computer herer is the download link for the program under the name "fireware"
  11. so i have to find the way to dust it and change the thermal paste without killing the laptop
  12. nope i will any other reason? its been so little used that i dont think it has to much dust
  13. this laptop-potato is overheating i dont kown why it has been hitting 101c° and am just using chrome ist a old laptop (2011ish)but why is it heating so much the laptop its a samsung np300e4x-t01cl
