  1. I'm switching out my Intel AC 3160 for a few reasons 1 it's only a 1x1 config and 2 i've had numerous problems with limited connectivity which is supposedly driver related, i know the obvious choice is to upgrade it to the AC 7260 but i am not keen on it due to having issues with it's smaller brother especially as i am operating on a N network and do not plan on switching to AC anytime soon. Anyway my main question is what is the difference between the Intel Dual Band Wireless N 7260 with Bluetooth and the Intel Centrino Advanced N 6235, the only difference i can find is that Intel killed of the Centrino line with the Dual Band line, i really asking this as i can't seem to find the Dual Band Wireless N 7260 with Bluetooth for a decent price but i can get the Centrino Advanced N 6235 for a decent price
  2. It's more than likely your firewall is set too strong, if your firewall is set to high you can only send an receive web pages, medium you can game, but ideally it needs to be low for P2P gaming
  3. Get the AC one, it's the "next Generation" of wireless, more and more devices will support it in the next 12 months and will have slightly better range than a N router
  4. I love the screen, it's so pretty and i like the dbrand skins especially the metallic ones
  5. It just randomly goes whilst i am working away, it's mostly whilst i am watching YouTube videos, i rarely put the computer to sleep, it's either on or off
  6. It happened again surprisingly quickly, less than an hour later since the last time it disconnected and the laptop is the only active device on the network at the moment
  7. Been getting this error about every 24-48 hours, I've been using the troubleshooter and it's been fixing the problem for me but as you can expect it's frustrating when it's happening pretty much every day. I've tried everything other forums have been saying, such as refresh the netsh settings, update your driver (done by downloading latest version from manufacturer), rebooting the router, on the network we have 3 computers, 2 phones and a 1st gen PS3 connected to the router via Ethernet, 1 PC running windows 7 connected via Ethernet to the router, 1 Lenovo laptop with Intel N-7260 upgraded from 8 to 8.1 and 1 Dell inspiron 15 5000 with an Intel AC 3160 running 8.1. All the devices on the network have no trouble bar my Dell and the Intel AC 3160, does anyone have any solution as to how i could prevent me from getting limited access due to the WiFi not having a valid ip config?
  8. Intel Dual Band AC-7260 for desktops have been getting great reviews from all the ones i have read as i was looking at the same card but for notebooks
  9. Yes it will, make sure you get a Dual Band card that is in a 2x2 configuration (2 transmitting and 2 receiving antennas) it will give you a better connection and transmission speeds and allows you to use both spectrum's on your router, just be aware there may be some issues running at N speeds, I've got an Intel AC-3160 1x1 card and it has connectivity issues which are supposedly related to bugs in the drivers working on the N spectrum
  10. Access points are generally connected via Ethernet you can get wireless ones but they're more range extenders than anything, if i remember rightly you can get Powerline waps with 2 Ethernet ports available, if you plan on setting up a lan you could get away with a switch but you say there's a lot of devices connected to the router already, so in that case you are better of buying a cheap router to do the lan on otherwise you're prone to lag
  11. I've pretty much discovered that the drop in speed is based on my signal which fluctuates between 135mb/s and 54mb/s and the fact i have a 1x1 so i have decided i need to upgrade the WiFi card to a 2x2 or 3x3, i need recommendations for which cards to look at, i have been looking at the Intel N-7260 or Broadcom BCM943224HMB are there any other recommendations you can suggest? i do not need an AC card, i will be using N300+ for the foreseeable future as it's relativley inexpensive, not really supported on the type of broadband i use and it will not exceed the speed available in area where i live, the fastest is currently 200mb/s but most people are on 100mb/s and i currently get 90mb/s it would be nice if Bluetooth was included but it is not essential. The card needs to be a half mini pcie with 2 ariels
  12. This one should be good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=33-122-326 I've used the 300mb/s DSL modem router variant as was seriously impressed with it, not only did it provide a better signal it held out with the barrage of use it got, mostly PS3 gaming whilst 2 laptops were connected browsing the web and streaming video, would have replaced it in a heartbeat when it died but didn't only because i switched to fibre broadband.
  13. Within the last month or so i got myself a Dell inspiron 15 5000 series after my trusty HP Pavillion DV6 had a Motherboard failure, that aside I've been having awful trouble with my WiFi, within the last 2 weeks i upgraded my crappy DSL line to a VDSL line and in my bedroom about 50ft away from the router i'm getting around 16-30mb down compared the 86mb next to the router however my up is consistent in both locations at around 19-20mb. Now for one of the things that bugs me, i have an Intel AC-3160 nic, whilst my brother who has a Lenovo E540 with the older Intel N-7260 is getting close to the 90mb we can get over Ethernet, based on a speed test to the same server with both laptops side by side. Signal wise i am fluctuating between 3-5 bars but mostly sitting on 4 or 5 bars. I did an interference test and there is no interference with just signal degradation as you would expect, even doing the same test on a few feet closer to the router in my brothers room the same thing is seen however i have a full 5 bars consistently. I know my nic is a 1x1 and my brothers is a 2x2 surely it shouldn't make as big a difference as it does based on speed tests and i consistently have a speed connection in excess of the speed i am receiving. Speeds aside i am also having problems with limited connection, about every 24 hours i get a limited internet connection, this is quickly fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting to the router, i am running the latest drivers downloaded from Intel. My brother had a similar issue however in his case it was occurring every 4 hours that was a DNS related issue and was resolved with a DNS flush, when the Microsoft wireless support wizard comes up it says there's no problem to be resolved, is this an issue with my nic or is it 8.1 issue? Should i look at getting a new nic? if so which one? if it's any help my router is a ZyXel VMG8324-B10A 300mbs on the 2.4Ghz band with no 5Ghz support.
  14. I am strongly looking at them in particular the LG 22EA63V, my only concern is that the response times are lower and the possibility of ghosting that has been seen in IPS monitors
