Try a different BIOS revision (newer isn't always better), it's fairly common for there to be BIOS revisions with broken memory overclocking on AMD boards, especially if you're using older A0 based memory sticks like you're likely doing if the memory is carried forward from a Skylake based system.

Another thing to try would be to set the SOC voltage to 1.15V. This is the voltage that the memory controller runs off of, and the vast majority of chips can achieve their max memory clocks with an SOC voltage between 1.1 and 1.2V, so 1.15V should be close enough for most CPUs.

As for the latency, the memory system on these CPUs is completely different than older Intel. Even modern Intel is completely different than older Intel. The Aida memory latency test peaked with Kaby Lake and has been getting higher ever since due to the larger and slower ring clocks achievable by the newer chips. The Aida latency test is terrible for memory performance though, and generally should only be used to compare the same CPU clock speeds (this test is affected fairly heavily by CPU clocks) and the same CPU as cache design also influences this number.

Can confirm, my 5900X will even do 4800MT/s if I desync the FCLK (only on 2 DIMMs though). You run into BIOS, FCLK, and motherboard limits well before you run into the IMC limits on those chips.

ill try the tips you suggested and ill see if i can break the 3000mhz barrier 😉

Did you change timings or just set the speed and left timings in Auto?

I see you use looser primary timings with T2 on Intel while tighter with T1 on AMD.

Not that primary timings matter that much anyway besides stability and Aida64 latency test which is biased towards tight primaries.

On AMD you'll always have more latency due to how it works with FCLK/MCLK/UCLK.

on the intel system i used auto timings as it responded well to just cranking the voltage and clock. but the amd system i have tried alot of timings and i have settled with 2666 with these timings which are tighter than the intel system for sure.

  3. I recently upgraded from a i5 6600k to a 5600x and i had my 2400mhz corsair lpx running at 3000mhz with no issues in memtest and no crashes for years, and then once i upgraded to my 5600x i cant get my ram past 2666 even at 1.4 volts and i was wondering if anyone knew why the 5600x is so poor for ram overclocking?

I also noticed the latency on the intel system is a bit lower compared to the AMD one.

Never heard a drive make a noise quite like that before, at least for a modern one. What drive specifically made that noise? Did you check the smart info? Most likely that noise was coming from the vcm.

smart info reads fine which is kinda strange, when i was taking the hard drive out it felt like the motor was freaking out. Maybe it was because the computer was in sleep mode and the hard drive was receiving low voltage which was enough to attempt to spin the hard drive?

  5. I woke up early in the morning to a terrifying noise that upon further inspection was my hard drive which i unplugged and just left it sitting on the floor and proceeded to go back to sleep.

But then i woke up tried plugging it in and works fine? anybody have an explanation for this happening lol

  6. everything is bottlenecked in terms of computing or we would have unlimited fps in every game, but some of the main bottlenecks in games are definitely cpu and gpu. it really depends on the game some games like csgo and cities skylines love cpu but dont care about gpu. but some games like battlefield and gta 5 love the gpu. ram isnt really ever a bottleneck as long as you have enough to store the game onto when its running.

hope this answered your question :)

No, but I tried booting from the usb that has windows on it to see where that would get me and windows didn’t show any drives detected for me to install to.

strange how putting pc to sleep can cause this, try taking the drive out and reseating it or better try a different port. it doesnt sound like a hardware issue but its best to rule out the simple stuff first. is that a window installation usb? if so check if the drive has detected partitions in the section of the windows install?

Thank you for all your help ,

Yes , yesterday I clean the fan already , and nothing work

it's still error , once it run full speed , will never slow down ( the rear fan )

and the front fan , never work , even the temp reach 85 celcius

As I do research , is it a common problem for GTX 1070 and 1080 ? I found so many people with the same problem , whatever the brand is.

So today , I sent this gpu for RMA , I can't take it no more

Hope it will go well ,

    Thank you

Try flashing the bios to some other version of your card, it fixed mine i flashed it today and the issue is gone. Use nvflash for this, its worth a try while you still have the card. just don't use the wrong rom file haha.

so , the real problem is the fan ?
i just wondering , is the fan controller inside the fan , or it's on the pcb board ?

its the individual fan thats the issue not the controller or the other fan would be having issues too. just buy a replacement fan for your specific card.

thank you , I will try
and will try to reinstall windows , I am afraid something missing

because the rear fan spin at 30% pwm since the computer start

as I know , the fan will kick in after 50c

I'm sure it's not windows as the fan does this issue when the bios screen pops up for me, its definitely a hardware issue and a replacement fan is recommended if you want this to work. they go for like 25 dollars on ebay or 15 euros. And its designed to kick in when it hits 50 degrees my GPU does that its the ECO mode. But the fan is faulty so it doesn't know whether to be off or 100 percent.

    how to do it ?

rma will take a long time

Just try dissemble the card and you should see fan connectors and unplug the one thats spinning to 100 percent. here are pictires of my card dissembled if that helps. its should be straight forward as all you need to do it remove the top shroud.

  12. I have the same issue with my 1070 it seems to be the fans problem and not software of BIOS, as i unplugged the fan that span to 100 percent and re routed the cable so only the 2 fans spin on my 1070 strix and the problem never comes up. i'm sure its the fans issue though i'm not sure. if you're brave enough try unplug the fan that's doing this. or if its still under warranty return it to EVGA.

    Hope this helps :)

  13. Hey i was hoping someone could help me with my issue as i got my new GPU a few days ago, its amazing dont get me wrong but its annoying when the sound of a 747 taking off during a youtube video hits. the other fans dont spin at all because of the 0db setting on the card when not being used heavily. they turn on when gaming. Any advice? thanks :)

Palit one suffers from rather weak cooler, hence undervolting is needed to keep it quiet at stock GPU boost 3.0 speeds (so roughly 1800MHz). Zotac one suffers from bad VRMs and cooling of VRMs, hence undervolting is also much recommended.

The extra power connector on the Zotac mean nothing, you wont benefit from having it when the VRMs are this bad (and badly cooled).

I'd just get the cheaper one or the better looking one, whatever suits your taste.

Warranty service should be similar among these two company. They are both second tier brands.

Okay thanks dude i did think the Zotac does look a bit flashy and too cool to be true haha, i think ill go for the Palit or something else entirely. Thanks for the advice bro :D

  15. I'm planning on buying myself a GTX 1070 and i have two leads on eBay but which brand do i choose? but not sure whether to buy Palit (slightly cheaper) or Zotac (bit more expensive) but is it any more reliable as I've heard Palit is unreliable? and the Zotac card has two 8 pin connectors as opposed to one on the Palit? thanks for any input you can give me :)

  16. I've been really interested in buying an ultrawide for ages but cant find the perfect one, i think i have found one but im not too sure if its (gaming) ready or something like that haha.

I'm wondering if someone can help me pick the perfect one. Preferably with a low respose time and i dont really care about 120 Hertz. Cheers :)

    1080p is a 2K resolution BTW. 2K = roughly 2000 horizontal pixels.

    I'm assuming you're talking about 16:9 1440p, which is 2.5K (2560 horizontal pixels).

Are there any requirements for the monitor other than 1440p (I assume)? For $800, pretty much all the 1440p monitors are available. Also, your location says UK, so what's your budget in £? $ and £ don't really translate directly as things are more expensive in the UK.

aha i used dollars as im so used to the concept as being online for so many years xD, but yea i meants 1440p lol. budget in pounds about 500

  18. Hey guys its me, i'm sure most people dont remember me aha but a few months back i started learing how to touch type (without looking at the keyboard) and im fairly proud of myself as i didnt expect anything to come out of it but something did! heres my progress on the website called keybr... i learned how to type completely off this site, no really expensive college classes or some crap :P.

Alltogether it took me 7 months to get to where i am now, i know it took me a long time but to be honest if i practiced more than just every few weeks i could of gotten it faster but hey hey every person is different :P

P.S Maybe some of you guys could share your stories on how you began to touch type if you want :D
