  1. Greetings, Thanks for all the info and help guys. I have decided I am going to wait abit longer before upgrading again. Thanks
  2. When it specifically comes to game servers, An example would be, I tend to host a listen/dedicated ARMA3 server on my PC for my friends which tends to be CPU hungry while I am also running the game while connected to the server. My friends complain of lag in some games but ill be fine or it will be the other way around in some cases. When I play other solo games it's not an issue, only when I run a dedicated/listen server does my CPU performance tank in some game server types. Hence the reason I want to upgrade for a higher core count CPU to alleviate this somewhat. But the general vibe I am getting so far on this thread is that it is not entirely worth it. Thank you to those who have posted so far your advice is appreciated. Will leave this open for now, will give this some more thought as well since it won't be a cheap upgrade for me.
  3. Sorry forgot to mention that, I will be using the PC for gaming (new and old games), game server hosting and media Viewing/Browsing.
  4. Hey guys, My current PC is as follows: CPU: Intel I7 6700K (Stock speeds) CPU COOLER: Corsair H100i GFX CARD: MSI 1080GTX Ti Lightning Z (Boost: 1721 MHz / Base: 1607 MHz / Mem: 11124 MHz) RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (4X8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 (XMP) MOBO: MSI Z170A Tomahawk CASE: Corsair Obsidian 750D PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 UPS: Eaton 5E 1500VA USB 230V PRIMARY: Mecer K3G3R 31.5" Curved 1440P 144Hz 4ms VA Panel SECONDARY DISPLAY: BenQ XL2411Z 24" 1080P 144Hz 1ms TN Panel SSD (Windows + Games) : Samsung 960 EVO 500GB NVMe M.2 PCI-Express 3.0 x4 HDD1 (Games): Western Digital Black 4TB HDD2 (Media): Western Digital Blue 3TB OS: Windows 10 Pro X64 I am thinking of the upgrading to either Ryzen 3700X or 3800X or should i wait for Intel's next line of CPU's? Not sure how accurate this site is but according to userbenchmark, i would get a 27% "effective speed" increase: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-3700X/3502vs4043 I already have the necessary RAM so from what I can see I would only need a new Mobo and CPU. Any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
  5. @GoldenLag I have decided to proceed and send the unit back for testing and replacement. I have been talking with the shop I bought it from and one of the employees has been the same screen himself and is running g-sync with a 1070gtx with no issues at all. Thanks for the help
  6. @GoldenLag Thank for the feedback, There are still a few more things I want to try before resorting to that. I have not tested the monitor at a different resolution yet when running at 144hz. I have also not tested the other separate cable I bought at 120hz and 60hz respectively. If I can get it working at 1440P @ 120hz I can live with that. Just made this post to get a general consensus before making my next step.
  7. Greetings All, Hopefully, someone can help me here. With the recent G-sync update, I have enabled G-Sync mode and I have noticed the screen flicker in almost all the games I play. It seems to be most prevalent in games like Insurgency and Day of Infamy but also Company of Heroes 1 and 2, where other games like BF4 and Killing Floor 2 it's barely noticeable at all. This is also quite visible on main menus or load screens. I have tested with a different Display port cable which made no difference. This issue only happens in game. Additionally after some more testing through the night, I was able "semi" resolve it by changing the screens refresh from 144hz to 120hz, which gave minor improvements but when I dropped all the way down to 60hz the problem completely stopped. So I am guessing the issue starts as soon as the refresh rate goes higher than 60hz. Specs as follows: MSI 1080 GTX TI Lightning Z (419.67) Intel 6700K @ 4.4ghz 32GB Gskill 3200hz DDR4 Additional Monitor Info: https://www.wootware.co.za/mecer-k3g3r-31-5-qhd-2560x1440-144hz-4ms-16-9-va-freesync-curved-gaming-desktop-monitor.html
  8. I've decided to rather save up for the screen on my previous post, My current screen is a TN Panel so I don't think I'll have an issue with it.
  9. So something like this?: https://www.wootware.co.za/dell-s2716dg-27-wqhd-2560x1440-144hz-1ms-nvidia-g-sync-16-9-tn-panel-gaming-monitor.html
  10. Greetings, I am back again yay! ? Current Rig: CPU: Intel I7 6700K (4.4GHz*) *MSI Game BoostGFX CARD: MSI 1080GTX Ti Lightning Z RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (4X8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 (XMP)PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2DISPLAY: Benq XL2411Z 24" 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms I previously posted a thread in regards to a CPU upgrade for my rig (Zen 2 being the recommendation). My current rig is primarily used to gaming (90% gaming 5% browsing 5% random stuff). I am running a 1080gtx ti at 1080p @144hz with the intention of maxing the settings in all games I play. I've been informed that bottlenecks can occur even at 144hz at my resolution and to make up for this a beefier CPU than my current 6700K would be the best option if I want to stick to 1080P. However, I have been thinking, what if I switch to 4K @ 60hz/higher refresh? Would I still need to upgrade my CPU to make the most of my GPU? TLDR: Stick with 1080P 144hz but invest in a beefier CPU OR upgrade to a 4K 60hz/higher refresh gaming monitor. Decisions decisions... Any help will be appreciated.
  11. Thanks for the responses guys. I think I will wait for the Zen 2 launch since that seems to be the main suggestion.
  12. Greetings, As per the title my main specs are as follows: GPU: MSI 1080GTX Ti Lightning Z RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 32GB (4X8GB) 3200MHz MOBO: MSI Z170A Tomahawk DISPLAY: Benq XL2411Z 24" 1920x1080 144Hz 1ms CPU: Intel I7 6700K (4.2GHz XMP) I've had my CPU well before the Ryzen and Intel 8000 CPU Intel series launch so when I see all these Hexacore and Octacore CPU's my mouth waters lol. I am running a 1080 ti at 1080P pushing for 144fps at 144hz and max settings and I also use 4K DSR at 60fps/144fps depending on the game. I mainly use my computer for gaming and game server hosting. Any advice would be appreciated. Just trying to work out a timeline for when I should start saving cash.
