  1. What does your friend think of those that use both? Personally I use both. I have a MacBook Pro because it's powerful and portable AND the program I use for audio editing just plain runs better on Mac OS, and can be run on the mbp. However, I have a desktop I built for gaming and gpu intensive tasks. Technically I'm a "Mac user" because... well... I use a Mac. So I guess even though I've done IT work for 5 years, built mine and my friends computers, I'm not "tech savvy". Maybe your friend should stop being all uppity about what OS or hardware people use and stop dealing in absolutes. It's not the computer that matters, it's how you use it.
  2. I can't wait to see this tested. I imagine it would take two Titan Xp's to drive that many pixels even close to that refresh rate!
  3. I didn't even think about that. Even though they're blower cards and will do better than open face in this use case, they're still going to get super toasty! Especially if there's both horizontal and vertical cards.
  4. He says in OP it's for photogrammetry. I have no clue what that is, but I can guarantee it doesn't use SLI and will use each GPU kind of like rendering in Blender. To answer OPs question. First off I'm not 100% sure, but I think there would be some clearance issues with the back of the vertical card. You might want to consider a case that has 8+ PCI slots.
  5. Exactly what I'm saying. We don't know exactly what they're doing. The only thing we can do is wait until they release more official statements. All that says is that they are stolen and they're working on it to get it back, meaning it's still in the air. Which means my statement about waiting still stands as we don't have all the available information. All I'm hoping for is to get back what little I had (nearly the .001 needed for payout) and mine until I can cash it out. Until they're done investigating and "improving security" we still don't know all the details. Please don't copy and paste from statements assuming I'm uninformed and have not read them yet then telling me that it's "black and white". Frankly, this issue is not just black and white. Nicehash have been terrible at keeping the public informed. They keep saying their services will be returning "soon" but it's been nearly a week since that. When they release statements it's just to calm the waters. Until they give us more information all we can do is assume. Which is why I was looking for a new miner in the down time.
  6. Since Nicehash has yet to comment on if they're paying everyone back on their return, I'm hoping for the best. If all of what I had ready to be paid out in about a week is gone, then I simply won't return.
  7. This is exactly why these protections against ISPs being able to favor certain types of traffic were in place!
  8. Block or throttle until that user stops using the VPN. What's going to stop them from basically turning off a customers internet because they don't like what the customer is doing?Who knows what ISPs are actually going to do now. Everything could stay the same or we could be screwed. Only time will tell.
  9. True! I'm still there's still some way they can see that it's VPN traffic. Like if all of a sudden all traffic starts going through 443 and not the ports it normally would.
  10. They can make tiers where VPN traffic isn't throttled/blocked. But, I know if my office ISP tries to do this we will instantly find a new ISP. The only thing keeping ISPs from being jerks is the push for them to be better than their competitors to draw in more customers.
  11. They can. VPN's use specific ports. They can tell if someone is using a VPN and throttle or block all VPN traffic. Edit: Forgot a period.
  12. So with all the hacking at Nicehash, once it's back online and I reach payout I've decided I'm going to switch miners. I've tried setting up other miners in the past, but I like that Nicehash mines altcoins, and decides which coins to mine for you, then pays in BTC. Is there an alternate miner that pays about the same or more than Nicehash? Or am I just stuck using it for the sake of its convince?
  13. I cannot give a 100% for sure answer, but I think if you haven't bought the 580 and the monitor yet, and your focus is gaming, your money would be better spent on upgrading cpu, mobo, ram eventually.
  14. It matches the output framerate of the gpu with the monitor. If the gpu dips, the monitor dips too. What is probably causing the dips is slow frame times. These are represented the 1% and .01% lows some other reviewers use. I agree! Which is why I started my posts recommending a miner. Separate systems would be nice. What I would recommend now that I have more information is to use the free sync monitor and 580 gpu for gaming, use the 980ti for mining. This can be done in the same system using nicehash. And to increase your gaming experience in the future, upgrade your cpu, mobo, and ram, and turn the old system into a mining system you can toss old cards into.
