  1. I recently bought a little gift for myself; a Core i7 4790S and an ASUS Maximus VI Hero (Z87) board. However, I'm having multiple issues that I cannot determine a cause. Starting the computer with the power button on the case or the start button on the board will make everything come "on" but it goes nowhere. I don't get monitor signal (It goes into power saving mode), the audio path LED doesn't light up, and only the CPU LED lights. If it boots "properly" then the CPU LED, DRAM LED, and then the VGA LED should light up in sequence. Anyway, once I have the computer at this point, I have to turn the computer off with the power supply switch then immediately flip it back on. The computer will now boot properly letting me get into the BIOS as well as start Windows installation. I can install Windows until it needs to restart, then once it auto-restarts the computer will go into the "incomplete" boot and I have to turn the power supply off. Because of that I can never complete the full install of Windows. I have tried absolutely everything. I've rebuilt the computer twice now and checked the connections on all of the cables. I'm really hoping nothing is broken, but we'll see. Any help that people may have is greatly appreciated!
  2. Thanks! I really haven't had any noticeable perf. difference from the 6300 rig. My most graphics intensive games, Tomb Raider, Battlefield 4, and mod packed Skyrim, play exactly the same as before!
  3. I bought the CPU+Mobo at a local Microcenter. They didn't sell the 760K and bundle discounts for buying both at the same time made it about equivalent to buying on NewEgg or something!
  4. I've had this build done for many months, but I'm finally making a thread. It's going to be upgraded with an R9 285 4GB whenever those become available. (I'm sorry if this is a super poopy build log, I've never done one before >.>) The case, an NZXT H230, was very minimal and instantly caught my eye as fitting the Mirror's Edge aesthetic. Inside, I wanted the coloring to represent more of her "heart", so I went with reds and blacks. No modding was done, but if it wasn't evident, I'm on a SUPER tight budget haha AMD 7700K (Zalman CNPS5X) GIGABYTE F2A88X-UP4 8GB Corsair Vengeance Sapphire Radeon HD 7790 2GB NZXT HALE82 700W NZXT H230 Seagate Barracuda 500GB LG MODISC Combo Drive I'm very happy with how things turned out and it wasn't a super expensive rig either. I did decide to go with the A88X platform since this seems more viable in the future and where AMD is focused. My close friend got my old FX 6300 based rig sans the 7790, which was objectively better but I was tired of looking at it and it was kinda of ugly. I'm a shallow person... Which is also why I ended up ditching the watercooler. The cramped tubing really did not look great and it's not like this processor needs WC.
  5. My main hope was that the 285 would actually be $200. I was going to upgrade to a 280 but have been holding out for Tonga. $250 isn't bad but cheaper is always better ;P
  6. I got it for some reason! Pulled it out, put it back in and booted up. Windows failed to boot, attempted to repair itself, and then failed that too. The computer restarted, stayed black for a bit, and then finally restarted 3 times quickly into Windows! I reinstalled the drivers and now it's been smooth sailing Soooooooooo yeah. Computers everybody! By the way, thanks for all of your time KDub haha
  7. Yeah that's how it has been so far. I'm looking into potential monitor issues and looking to see if I can "switch out" the APU drivers for the GPU drivers instead of having both
  8. It does indeed. The old one had an FX CPU, so I have a feel like there's an issue with the APU overriding it but disabling the IGPU does nothing
  9. Haha yes! The fan spins up and everything. To elaborate, the monitor gets stuck in standby mode when connected to the 7790 rather than the "No Signal" state when it's completely disconnected. I also have Catalyst Control Center 14.7 installed as well as the newest monitor drivers and MB BIOS.
  10. FULL SYSTEM SPECS IN MY SIGNATURE So I cannot seem to get video through my GPU. It's a 2GB Sapphire 7790 and the monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster SA350. I get both digital and analog fine on the APU, however plugging into the graphics card while the computer is either off, in BIOS, or in Windows does nothing. I have the onboard GPU set to "AUTO" in the BIOS but disabling it and connecting to the dedicated GPU does not help. It seems the card isn't being recognized at all. However I don't know how to make it recognized. It was fully functioning in my last computer before pulling it for this one. Thanks in advance everyone
  11. I love LTT, however sometimes I find discussions hard to make. I've been coming infrequently since near the forum's beginning I believe. I would love to post more often, but I find it difficult to engage in much conversation. Either the thread has devolved into a bickering argument by the time I see the thread or I see a ton of questions that can be answered on the first page of google. Maybe I lack the community mindedness to help these people, but it's sort of annoying. I'm sorry if I come off as arrogant since I don't think less of anyone for asking their questions, it's just one of the reasons I wouldn't rate it as highly as others. If however I DO get into a good discussion, it's all good. This is a great community overall and I'm happy to be a part of it! I put 8/10 in the survey
  12. That's dark brown too, GlassBomb and Dragoon. $60 and below there's nothing. Real matte black is usually reserved for higher end stuff. The Gigabyte G1 Sniper FM2+ board and another enthusiast Gigabyte FM2+ board are black, but they are $109.99 (NewEgg) last I checked.
  13. Generally they use the same chip for these things (IE Pitcairn -> 7850 and Pitcairn LE -> 7870.) The companies lock off cores/shaders/etc. if the cards under perform. Flashing a higher BIOS reactivates these, but it's risky because it can cause instability and potentially brick the unit.
  14. No they're completely different chips. 260X/7790 are Bonaire. The 265 is a slightly upgraded 7850, which is Pitcairn if I remember correctly.
  15. Well this is some weird news for me. I am a big fan of AMD's enthusiast chips as they are high performance for their price. However, this is sort of a last hurrah which means they'll be gone after this and we won't be getting "vanilla" chips anymore. Hopefully by that time APUs are sophisticated enough to rival plain chips.
