So on the latest WAN Show around the ~1:26 hr mark, Linus says the following:
"... People thinking that Mantle spurred on Microsoft to bring DirectX 12 to market, guys that's not what happened, DirectX 12 have been on the works for quite some time now..."
Yes, that's what we heard from Intel, Microsoft and NVIDIA during DirectX 12's press announcement, but then again, I can't help but think that's not all that true for a very simple reason:
* Why did Microsoft hype DirectX 11.2 that much then? just for Tiled-resources? We had forums go crazy on whether GTX 600/HD 7000 series cards were fully compliant with DirectX 11.2, etc etc, and what's gonna end up happening is that zero dev studios are gonna adopt it now, so all of the resources spent by Microsoft on development and such was that all for nothing? that's how it was planned in the 1st place?
There's gotta be something else going on here IMO, also, the insanely long time window (~14 months) until we see the 1st title running DirectX 12 is suspicious as hell.
Would like to hear your thoughts on this LTT community.
