  1. I did some digging, here in europe (or at least where I live) surge protectors are mandatory for the whole house. so it is included in the breaker panel (as far as i know). Nevertheless, I did some troubleshooting this morning and found that it is indeed the psu being bad: i connected to friend's ups and had the same phenomenon. Then I tried swapping out the psu with my old psu (thankfully i did not throw it away...) and everything is back to normal. Now i will try to get a refund from the seller. thanks guys!
  2. Hi! At the end of last year I built a new pc, over the last few months I systematically experienced a rather exotic problem: the pc won't turn on if the psu has been connected to the wall for long. To power it on I have to unplug the psu for an hour at least. To me it looks like a condenser in the psu that need to be discharged to power on the pc. On top of that, if the pc is on for more than 6 hours (which it tends to do) suddently it will power off, for no apparent reason. That got me thinking, is the psu bad or dying? Or is the problem somewhere else? computer specs: AMD Ryzen 2600, Nvidia gtx 1060, 16gb crucial ballistix sport, asrock b450m pro, wd black pcie ssd, PSU: Cooler Master MWE gold 650 full modular. Thank you in advance
  3. I've tried to do something with my old PC, and while I was looking at the cpu usage and cpu temps, I noted that Cpu usage in Aida64 fluctuates between about 20% and 80% while idle. Later on I noted that this fluctuation is related to Task manager: when it's closed the cpu usage (according to aida64 and also Perfomance monitor (included in windows 10)) is sitting at around 70-80%, as soon as i open tm, it drops at 20%. Any idea why that would happen? FIY: i'm using windows 10 creators update and the cpu is an intel core i5 2310 on an asus p8p67 board. I also attached a screen capture of the strange phenomenon task manager.mp4
  4. It's going to be a GTX 1070. Probably an msi armor edition, but it depends on which card is on sale at the time of purchase.
  5. Thank you all! I'll start the quest for the power supply then
  6. Hi, Since my GPU died a while back (started glitching), I've been planning to upgrade my 6 years old computer. The other day I was thinking that maybe the PSU is a bit old and could lead to future problems (it's a Corsair GS600 80+ Bronze). Should I change the power supply as well in order to prevent damages to the other components in case of a failure?
  7. I like very much the HTC Sense, as well as the design, of course.
  8. I found a replacement for the RAM: Mushkin Stealth DDR3-1600 32GB 4X8GB CL9 So, what about the CPU? On cpubenchmarks.net the E5-2620 v2 doesn't score that well respect to the 4930k. Isn't it going to bottleneck the system?
  9. I chose 2 SSD in Raid 0, just for os, software and project i'm working on. then at the end of the day i save everything on a mechanical hard drive (that i don't have to buy because i have some at home lying around). I'm not sure about the gpu, because i'm using blender, octane and cryengine, so don't know if they work better with nvidia or amd. On the other hand, mathematica and matlab speed up quite a bit by using CUDA cores, so...
  10. Hi everyone! I'm planning to building a workstation for 3D rendering, but not professionally, scientific pourpose, such as mathematical calculation (with Wolfram Mathematica and MatLab), and often gaming. I came up with the following build: CPU: Intel Core i7-4930k - Heatsink: Noctua U14s w/ additional NF-F12 MB: Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 GPU: Gigabyte nVidia GTX 780 Ti OC SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB (there are two for RAID 0) PSU: Corsair RM750 RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3-1600 MHz CL10 Case: Fractal Design Define R4 I already have all the peripherals I need. Now, here's the question. Since I'm not going to game a lot, I was thinking about replacing the Cpu with an Intel Xeon E5-2620 V2, which is a lot cheaper than the 4930k. The price should not be more than 1800€ (about 2800 $CAD, and 2500 $USD). Please note that I live in Europe (specifically Italy), and not many retailers will provide international shipping. Would it be a good idea? Thx
